Does that mean you can only do one of those functions manually and the remaining functions will default to auto? In other words I can EITHER use the ring to focus, or for zooming, or for iris? If I use it for focus, is the only option for iris is to be auto?

I am impressed. Sony should have called this the HXR-MC3000, because the old MC2000 compared to this is a joke. The camcorder hardware might still be the same as in some of their little consumer units, but the firmware is all new, and contains plenty of useful features and functions I would not have expected to see.

I do own a Canon XHA1 today, and this model has a built in ND-filter I can flip on with a switch, which is of course very handy when shooting in bright outside summer weather. I'm having big problems trying to edit the footage to burn to DVD. I'M using windows xp and have ulead video studio 11.5.I get the footage on the timeline but the sound does not sink with footage. I think I need to upgrade system and software. Any Ideas?
hi there this seems like a software issue, i assume your PC is fairly old, the camera is new and the codec the video records in seems not to be compatible with your video editing software.

If you are using a Mac then on finder right click on the AVCHD Icon then click show package contents this will show the clips do do this on stream folder.

+jeffry yohanes To be honest not as hot, the only reason why dslrs get hot are because they are mainly designed for pictures so when the camera captures the frame rates this heats up the mechanism inside, as this Sony camera is a video camera it shouldn't get to hot and would be able to cope with the heat.

Hi there Mathias this camera has a hdmi output which mean you can connect it to a capture box such as Blackmagic Design intensity Extreme Thunderbolt and then stream Via Ustream Producer directly, its a popular set up, also there is a sdi output (bnc) which you could possibly use to stream footage. +Michael McCullough Hey dude it really depends on your need and shooting style, This camera is pretty much point and shoot with easy to operate setup, with a dslr you can get more creative as you have options to more lenses ect. However with a dslr you will need a decent microphone such as the Rode video mic Pro. The main camera i use is the 5D MK III this is mainly for promo videos, however i sometimes film online news features so i find the Sony More convenient to use. Hope this helps.
+Meyer Media Hi there this can be variant to the room you filming there are times when you can rely on a preset however there will be times when you need to manually adjust the white balance. Having said that the preset is not that bad and i probably use that more then manual setting.
It is a good idea to get the hang of manual WB because you can be caught out. A sudden change of lighting, a combination of indoor and sunlight can confuse any camera set on auto WB.

When it is connected go on Finder and it will show up in the 'Devices' section, you will see file called AVCHD Right click on this folder and click 'Show package contents' Do the same thing On Stream and you should see your files. Hope this helps.

But yes that should be find if you downscale to 720p it is not good if you upscale say 720p to 1080p as you would start to pixelate the image. just make sure that the frame rates add up when you export the footage as this can create a lag in the video or make the footage look choppy. It's a really good overall with tons of features, it has many manual controls like the Sony pro series camcorders, also it's fraction of the price and looks very professional. I'd say the quality is great and would recommend it, if it is a first time buy.

Have you purchased a second or a replacement battery? I purchased at NP-F570, the same as the camera came with, but it isn't recognized by the camera.

Marius Lauritzen yes you are indeed correct, there is no built in ND filter. You would need to purchase your own.

Its Not that bad, does have a bit of noise, but i would recommend getting an external mic such as a rode video mic pro.
