    I really love my Alpinist SPB121J1, but the baby alpinist line indeed is really underrated. It’s more true to the field watch design with its more simple design, traditional single crown, and non-compass bezel. And it gives a similar vibe to the likes of the Rolex Explorer without being a copycat, it’s still uniquely Seiko. Also, thanks to its cleaner design, the baby alpinist line just lends itself to more dressier situations better than the standard double crown alpinist line if you’re looking for a watch that can do dressy.

    $800 for a baby alpinist is insane considering the OG was $300 just 4~5 years ago

      So it's a fabulous iconic design , very much uprated , refined , Has 70 hour power reserve , beautifully finished
      Is there a better watch for the price ?

      @@bumcrackwatchco. Orient Star watches have a better finish at $400-$500. Orient Star Power Reserve comes to mind. Also Hamilton field watches and Tissot PRX

    The baby alpinist is a stunner, proper Rolex explorer vibes but with its own style

      Completely agree. I love that is has heritage too with the older Alpinist models. Proper explorers watch!

    I have four Seikos and I love 'em all. Blue Presage (SRPE43J1), Presage Style60s (SSA445J1), Glacier Alpinist (SPB197J1) and a Solar Diver (SNE585). No issues so far.

    Really nice selection there, some of them are new to me. I bought the Baby Alpinist in November 2021 and it is a very firm favourite. Perfect on a 7" wrist, and extremely legible at a glance.

    The Seiko alpinist range has only been on my radar for a couple weeks but it's fair to say I've already become pretty smitten. The sarb013 is my favourite but as it's discontinued, buying pre-owned seems to be the only way to go, and trying discern fakes from authentic sarbs is providing difficult

    • @TopTierTicker
      @TopTierTicker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, the fake Sarbs are scary good. Even Max from WatchCrunch got duped and he's a seriously experienced collector.

    The 6R35 tend to preform worse than the 4R movements as a side note, its also known to be the less reliable of the two.

      I have 7 Seikos with the 6R35 movement, all bought at the AD. All but ONE of them had to get regulated because they were going over 45 seconds fast a day. My Willard 55th Anniversary watch had to be completely overhauled as well. Once they got regulated they performed extremely well, just really sucks that I had pay more for it to get there

  • @MrKanjidude
    @MrKanjidude ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very good suggestions. The baby alpinist is very tempting. Luckily(?) Seiko helps me save money by insisting on cramming day-date into most of their models, something I absolutely cannot stand, thus making them irrelevant for me.

    I GREATLY appreciate your extensive efforts to find watches fresh for us TH-camrs. Especially for us Seiko FANatics. I couldn't find something to satiate my lust for dressier watches, unfortunately. Seiko seems intent on culling them off when they get popular. Which drives me INSANE. I'll keep on my lifelong search for my perfect lifetime one watch collection. Hopefully with help from you

    Gary over at I Like Watches has a review of the square Seiko and it's one I've considered. Prices on the Alpinist have been dropping (at least where I live). Baby Alpinist has been on sale in last few months for around €550 and you can even get the blacked out limited edition Alpinist for around €650 as it hasn't sold as well as expected.
    Really like the look of the SRPG59 as I hadn't noticed the little details before your video.

  • @VictoriaStobbie

    “Tunas” are thicker, both in case height and bezel width. The one shown definitely is thinner and does look like a “bottle cap”, at least to me.

  • @watchalot919

    I have owned several Seikos in the past, but the only one I own is my Alpinist. Whilst the aesthetics are normally very good, the movements are pretty crap, the QC issues prevalent, and the price to high. I gave up on them when I discovered micro brands

    • @theshadowman1398
      @theshadowman1398 ปีที่แล้ว

      What’s wrong with the movements. I have a regulated 4S35 in my land turtle ( fieldmaster ) and it’s accurate between -3 en -5 seconds per day. But then again I only buy seiko’s directly from Japan. No Made in Japan on the dial no deal.

    • @watchalot919
      @watchalot919 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theshadowman1398 Have you ever witnessed a 4r35 or 6r35 on a timegrapher? They are reliable, and if you wear them in the same manner on a regular basis and regulate them they can be quite accurate. The regulation on arrival is generally very hit and miss. Once bought an SKX and it ran +40spd on arrival. Like said, great aesthetics, but poor value for money. I love my Alpinist, but it's only worth half of what I paid in reality

    • @TopTierTicker

      I've owned around 5 Seikos now and not experienced a single QC issue. I know they very much exist because I've heard an abundance of stories, guess I've been lucky. I have my sights set on that SPB155 by the end of the year

    I'm done with Seiko because of the imprecision and non-constancy of their so-called recent (3 to 4 years now) movements
    It has become a lottery that can be expensive given their price increases
    My last disappointment was an Alpinist with a completely imprecise and non-standard movement (+ 2 minutes / hour !!!)
    How it can come out of the factory and offered for sale is incomprehensible
    Immediate return of course and refusal of any replacement
    Their old low priced movements found in some chinese watches are better!!!

    • @TopTierTicker
      @TopTierTicker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that is ridiculous, should've never left the factory. I've personally not had an issue with a Seiko watch yet (touch wood).

      You know, you can just have it serviced by Seiko or any third party watch repair and service store, as it does have a standard and easily serviceable and adjustable regulating screw. You may have just gotten a badly regulated and/or poorly quality controlled copy (this can happen from time to time with any mass produced watch brand, not just Seiko) if yours is indeed running 40 seconds a day, as my alpinist is actually running slightly more accurately than its published +25 to -15 second a day.
      My seiko SRPD51 which has the 4r36 movement also runs more accurate than Seiko’s published accuracy for it. Reviewers such as Teddy Baldassarre have also pointed out that Seiko’s 4r36 and 6r35 movements run far more accurate than Seiko’s published accuracy, as these published accuracy are actually just Seiko’s benchmark for the allowable inaccuracy their movements should have, a sort of qc test.
