Mason, I teach physical therapy and this was a great video. I'm showing this to my students so they can learn about Tenodesis. You are a great TEACHER and thank you!
Very informative. Have a son with a C6 ,C7 , T1 injury that just happened 3 months ago. This and a few other videos you posted will help tremendously. Thanks!

Thank you! I'm studying for my PTA boards and this really helped me get a real life understanding of the mechanics of this. tenodesis Thanks for your help and great video!
Awesome! I am a friend of one cool incomplete quadripelgic juust trying to undersand her day to day life more prcacticing my English in the same time. Your explanation is really clear. Thanks a lot!
Mason, I'm an OT student studying for my board exam and just stumbled upon your videos. Thank you so much for sharing. Your explanations are so helpful and make studying much more enjoyable!
Thanks so much for this great video Mason! I'm a student of physical therapy and your video was extremely helpful. Also kudos to you for continuing life to the fullest as you should be! :)
Hi Mason! I am a 1st year physical therapy student and you helped me to understand tenodesis by explaining it and by showing how you use it in your life. I tried practicing the motions that you showed on your video! Thank you. This was so helpful.
Like many of your other viewers, I'm also studying to be an OT (I'm done with school and now studying for my licensing exam). We learned about tenodesis grip in textbooks, but your video really helped me understand all that's possible by using it. Thank you!
Awesome, I'm glad to know my video helped you! Be sure to watch my updated tenodesis video here: th-cam.com/video/wRgHz7mNWRo/w-d-xo.html Thank you for watching and commenting!

Hey Andrea! Thank you very much! I’m glad your professor recommended watching my video and I’m glad that I could help! Thank you for subscribing and this great comment.
Awesome... c4 c5 here.. was in the back seat of my car while my friend drove and after she ran a red light I woke up in the hospital quadriplegic. Don’t know how you do it, good for you for having strength. I barely get by every day
I’m sorry to hear about that. I do it because I don’t want my injury to keep me from living life. - “Living life just like I would’ve able-bodied!” I hope that you find your inner strength and don’t give up!

Hi Mason!! I am in the same PT class as Daniela Bianchi, and Erika Nelson-Wong is my professor. I wanted to let you know just how much I enjoyed watching your video. I actually stopped it a couple of times so I could play with my wrists and hands to really see and feel the motions. I then practiced doing everything you showed in your video. It's fantastic. Thank you for taking the time to be a teacher. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
:) Hey there! Thank you for the nice reply :) we talked about you and your video in class yesterday. You would have loved watching everyone try to to the things you do on a day-to-day basis. There is 81 of us in this class, and I would say that nearly everyone watched your video. Hope you're having a nice weekend.
@@masonx54 thank you so very very much!! 🙏🏻❤️ I’ve been working on a case study at the uni these past weeks and the case is about a person with a similar injury to yours. I had to write about the physical functions, assessments of ADLs, interventions - as if I was working with that patient. Your videos have helped me a lot - to imagine how the patient’s ability to perform certain tasks would look like, what interventions might be needed etc. I’m sure that you’ve helped many, many people all around the world by sharing all the useful information - either directly or passed on by their therapists. Good luck with your studies! 👨🎓
+Anita Suppiger That’s the same injury level as myself except I have a complete injury. Here’s a video showing how I eat with normal silverware! th-cam.com/video/xFR3HWy-zYQ/w-d-xo.html
Thank you Mason for sharing this video! You are an example and an inspiration and should be extremely proud of yourself. I am a PT student and your "real life" video was extremely helpful. Thank you;-)
Just thought I would let you know that your video was used to explain tenodesis to a group of Third Year Physiotherapy students :) Thank you for the insight
Mason, Thank you so much for sharing. I am in OT and was just introduced to tenodesis. Your video explained it perfectly and with your demonstrations, it made it very easy to understand. Take care
Hi Mason! This is a great video! I am a professor in a physical therapy school, and I'm planning to use your video in my course for my 1st year DPT students! Thank you for making such a clear video with great examples and information!
Hi Mason! I'm also in the physical therapy class as those who commented below, and I just wanted to say thanks for the informative video! I love that you're making these videos to help others. Definitely subscribing!
Great video! Just wanted to clear one thing up. Wrist extension does not innervates until the C6 level therefore you cannot use tenodesis grasp unless you have some movement at the C6 nerve.
I am a recent OT grad at my first job as an OT, and I have a pt who is C6-C7 SCI and I have been struggling to come up with goals for her. This video was VERY helpful and I will go to work more confident tomorrow when treating this pt. Thank you :)
Awesome, I’m glad to hear my video was helpful! I have many other videos that can help your patients as well. Being able to dress yourself is an important goal, which I have a video on how to do that - th-cam.com/video/5SAl1yMECXc/w-d-xo.html
Love it! We have much in common, Mason! Before suggesting anything, I'll watch all your vlogs to get the complete picture. This, I offer in case you're not aware these weights are out there on eBay - Heavy Hands by AMF. I'm sticking with 8lbs per arm as my back is injured; non-operable and crooked. I'm getting corrective seating on a qm710 by Quickie and look forward to engaging in daily stretching techniques to improve my posture and alleviate associated pain. You've got plenty of 'motor' to built on! ...very excited we share much the same motor functions; big things can happen for you! I once took a shower at our first house while home alone. I slept/ dressed in a medical bed back then. The floors were wood and the bed casters weren't locked or pointed the right way. Consequently, after my shower, in mid-transfer into bed, the bed slipped away leaving me with one choice...let go and drop to the ground (manual rigid sports chair). As I let myself ease part way down, I realized 'something' was caught. Left with one choice, I let go and landed on my butt. A pool of blood quickly revealed I was ripped in the sack. Adrenaline kicked-in, as you can imagine; I crawled into bed with no problem...adrenaline was the key. Ah, nine stitches. A year later it happened again, nine stitches. An 'm' or a 'w' scar reminds me of the power of adrenaline and to not take a shower alone! AMF HEAVY HANDS! lOL
Wow, I can’t imagine! It’s probably a good thing you could feel it, or I’m assuming you couldn’t. Thanks for the suggestion of weights. I use 10 pound weights that have a rubber coating. They work really good. Watch my video on lifting weights and you’ll see them.
Blessed with lots of sensation. Never a bedsore on my behind. I do shift around frequently to relieve the stinging sensation in my butt. We're like snowflakes - no two just alike. Your doing everything right per what I'm learning lately at PT, OT, etc.. I've not been to therapy in near 30yrs; nice to learn why my shoulders needed cortezone shots. I'm about to go exercise for an hour, dying to see your videos!
Great video Mason! Your videos help me out a lot for my education, i've already watched lots of them and they are always very informative! keep up those videos! :)
Thank you very much and I’m glad to hear my videos help you with your education! I appreciate you watching my videos and hope you watch more. I always try to make my videos informative and I will keep making videos. Glad to help!
Have you read anything about DMSO (Dimethyl sulfoxide) and SCI ? I have been putting it on my spine at my damage for about a year now and noticing so dramatic improvements after almost 30 years . My legs and feet want to turn in , I would trip myself a lot or blisters between the knees , now more normal . Feet felt frostbitten 24/7 not any more . 20 years morphine almost none now just a bit of breakthrough a couple times a week . When I apply it to my spine I feel it in my feet in just a couple minutes . Can get it on Amazon or any supplement store .
I can feel my thumbs, index fingers, and middle fingers. So, if I put my arms out perpendicular to my body and draw a line horizontally across under my middle fingers, I can feel everything above that line. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Mason, do your hands get shaky when you put your wrists up? Mine get aggravatingly shaky and they almost hurt. All I can think is I could be so much worse off...but still. Do you think they are shaky because they are weak? I try and do strengthening exercises. I am a C4 incomplete, but have issues with C5 and C6 as well. Thanks. ***EDIT*** I found out why my hands are so shaky and spasmy when lifting my wrist upward. It just goes to show how everyone's injuries can differ so much because I know you area C5 complete and have wrist function. Although I am a C4 incomplete, C5 and C6 are fusing together for some reason and C5 controls your wrist going up motion.
@@masonx54 hmmmm...ok, I seem to have muscle groups partially work...like I am trying to tricep exercises. They are there, I know they are, but they won't develop. The same goes with the wrist muscles (extending them up in the air) and adductors. The adductors are extremely painful because it seems I just strain them.
Thanks Mason, I am a student in Grad school for OT. You have the best video describing tenodesis. Thanks you for sharing.
+Jamie Hummel Thanks for watching my video! I hope it helped you in understanding tenodesis!

Yes, as long as the lid isn't too tight.
How long did it take you to master the grasp to eat independently?
Probably a year after my injury. Here’s a video showing how I eat with utensils. th-cam.com/video/xFR3HWy-zYQ/w-d-xo.html

That’s interesting. I will check it out.
Thank you! I am studying for ITS boards and you made it so I really get tenodesis.
Awesome! Be sure to check out my updated video about tenodesis here: th-cam.com/video/wRgHz7mNWRo/w-d-xo.html
Do you feel with yout finger sir
I can feel my thumbs, index fingers, and middle fingers. So, if I put my arms out perpendicular to my body and draw a line horizontally across under my middle fingers, I can feel everything above that line. Thank you for watching and commenting!
@@masonx54 thanks sir so much
Can you feel the tips of your fingers
Only on my thumb and index fingers.
No, my hands don't shake when I put my wrists up. Yeah, I would say that strengthening the muscles would help with the shaking.
That's how my triceps are as well. My right arm is much weaker than my left arm but my triceps don't seem to be getting any stronger.
@@masonx54 I wonder why this is?
I'm not sure but it could be that certain nerves in the spinal cord were damaged.
My transplant results are not good
What?
Nerves transplant of my fingers is not successful, i am a c6 quadriplegic from India
Was it a tendon transfer?
The music is very annoying
Thanks for your feedback. If you have watched any recently made videos, you would know that I don’t use music anymore.
