Not to minimased the effect of the second hit to the head, but the initial hit probably caused more damaged in fact. The head decelaration was much higher.

For the most , when I come across a fellow Boston fan that acts like a fool or talks stupid he or she is usually a bandwagon fan just riding the wave of recent championships.

That's often why teams get out there to circle the injured player on the ground - they don't want people getting close-up footage of their comrade when they're down. But in this day and age with silly smartphones - nothing is sacred, private - there is no tact, manners

Yeah, was most likely trying to take pictures. A similar thing happened when Hall knocked out Vancouver’s Larsen a couple seasons back; Markstrom told a fan not to record anything/blocked their view
I'm not sure why he would feel bad. Sabourin was the aggressor. Backes just braced himself for the hit. There was nothing dirty about the play, just an unfortunate accident.

He probably had to go get checked for a concussion, I known Scott had one for sure, he'll be ok but concussions are no joke, I had a bad one a couple years ago and I still get random headaches right where I hit my head, and your never the same after, I was out of it for a week at least.

I was in the arena for this. It was dead silent from everyone. Didn't think anything of it until play stopped and Backes stood and tried to get the trainers over there. It felt like half an hour while everyone was trying to see if he Sabourin was ok. Glad everyone turned out to be conscious and able to walk again. That was a hard fall

Was at this game. Just got back to my spot about an hour ago. It happened so fast most people people there didnt even see it happen. Ive been watching hockey now for 20 plus years and grew up playing the game. Ive never seen them bring out the stretcher so quickly in my life. This was a scary injury for sure. I think this is the first time I had ever seen a collision of the heads in hockey. It's either a head shot, head first in the boards, or head into the ice. Football shows exactly how terrifying such hits are, but with not much covering the face... just wow. Easily the second worst injury in the game and just as terrifying as a cut from a skate.

I cant watch this and won’t, i want to comment though, It brings back the horrifying memory of the night Rod Higgins of the chicago Bulls was seriously injured in a collision with Wallace Bryant, Wallace fell on Higgins, and Higgins into convulsions on the Madison square garden court against the Knicks. I was listening to the game on the radio, and the Knicks were winning, the crowd the rest of the game was silent and did not cheer, the announcer sounded depressed and the post game show the knicks player interviewed sounded like he was going to cry Thank the good lord Rod Higgins made a full recovery. I pray that young man on the Ottawa Senators also makes a full recovery.
As a hawks fan, I hated Backes when he was on the Blues and continued to hate him with the trade to Boston but this just makes it so much better. You love to see two teams put the game away for several minutes to acknowledge the fact that no one truly wants anyone to get hurt. Love the sport, love the sportsmanship more

Never been a Backes fan but that was class to call out med staff and show some emotion. He used to be a bit of a bully in his earlier years but being a aging vet, he showed he cares about another players welfare being as how carrers are cut short by head injuries. He got KO'd once in Chicago so he knows what that feels like. Pure class by Backes and both teams. How this kid is ok. Stay strong bud.

I had the same type of head injury hitting ice in college. I got tripped by goalie coming out on my break away. I remember shooting and that's it. I didn't have the blood on ice, but when I started to come to after about 45 seconds, I started kicking my legs into ice as a reaction. I was helped off ice by a teammate and opposing captain. Only missed one game after the head into ice.
This is hockey... This is how it's been always. Respect Some Arenas let them come on the ice, other times they make them stay on the bench This isn't new - it happens to be Saturday night and everybody saw the game so they're noticing it
There is more to like about hockey than putting the biscuit in the basket. No shortage of class and sportsmanship and there is no kneeling, not even for another country's national anthem. These guys take a real beating and earn every penny
What a festival of sportsmanship, this scene; Backes insta-calling the medical staff over, Borowiecki scolding a fan for wanting to take pictures, both benches clearing out, silent crowd, etc. I've been watching hockey since 1991 I don't believe I've ever seen both benches clear out like that to show support for an injured player. If you didn't see the game, you don't get an idea of how long he was laying there with the medical staff. This was a 10+ minute stoppage.

Never been a Backes fan but that was class to call out med staff and show some emotion. He used to be a bit of a bully in his earlier years but being a aging vet, he showed he cares about another players welfare being as how carrers are cut short by head injuries. He got KO'd once in Chicago so he knows what that feels like. Pure class by Backes and both teams. How this kid is ok. Stay strong bud.

I had the same type of head injury hitting ice in college. I got tripped by goalie coming out on my break away. I remember shooting and that's it. I didn't have the blood on ice, but when I started to come to after about 45 seconds, I started kicking my legs into ice as a reaction. I was helped off ice by a teammate and opposing captain. Only missed one game after the head into ice.
Greatest game on earth. No other spot would show that kind of sportsman ship.

There is more to like about hockey than putting the biscuit in the basket. No shortage of class and sportsmanship and there is no kneeling, not even for another country's national anthem. These guys take a real beating and earn every penny

What a festival of sportsmanship, this scene; Backes insta-calling the medical staff over, Borowiecki scolding a fan for wanting to take pictures, both benches clearing out, silent crowd, etc.
I've been watching hockey since 1991 I don't believe I've ever seen both benches clear out like that to show support for an injured player. Obviously a tragic circumstance, but I'm very happy to see such classy conduct all around it.
