  • I remembered how the Bosch's E-Clutch didn't work. So I decided in my infinite wisdom that the Dewalt's version won't work either. Let me share my findings.

I've seen these things in the store but I didn't think that they worked for anything else than drywall. Thank you! Cheers.

My friend, I'm literally just about to go out and buy this drill over a DCD796M1 for general household DIY and the occasional heavy job. I'm just not sure about all this e-clutch business. Overall, which would you recommend as the best all 'round machine?

The DCD796 would actually be me reccomendation. As for the DCD996 E-clutch, the only grey area is flathead countersunk screws. For everything else it works generally well.

Hi Milton. I have the same dewalt 996 drill. I just had it back from warranty repair and noticed the drill speed on speed 3 drill setting spins slower than on speed 3 hammer setting. Is this normal?

Yes, it's normal. You get around 200 more RPM on hammer. It was a way to kick at Milwaukee.

I use a dealt drill everyday, the clutch is useless, I never use it anyway and anyone who uses these tools for a living don't rely on a drill clutch. Its a upper grade Dewalt drill that gets used by people who know how to use a drill, we don't need a clutch.
