You had me until CCR. Absolutely one of my favourite American bands of all time and the fact that they put out all of those classic records in under 5 years blows my mind. Definitely not varied in their sound but neither were AC/DC or the Ramones and they were great too.
When you have a sound as great as CCR (or AC/DC, or the Ramones, or Motorhead), why vary? They've hit upon the perfect thing, just build more and more songs with that sound. A lot of the bands that try to vary things a lot just end up having more songs that I don't like and have to skip. I never have to skip a song on a CCR, AC/DC, Ramones, or Motorhead album. There are no songs I dislike. (Okay, I admit I'm sick of "Ride On" by AC/DC, but, otherwise...)
I thought their drummer and sax player are talented, and I can see a jazz connection there But I never thought of the band as jazz. They always attracted more the jam band crowd and part of why I couldn't get into them is because of that vibe - they're for festival attending bros in sandals.
Funny story about Limp Bizkit. When they were at the height of their popularity a local alternative rock station here in Chicago was getting requests to play the hit "Nookie" non stop. So one day the station decided to cancle their regular programming and play "Nookie" on repeat for the whole day. 😬🤣🤣🤣 I'd say an hour in they were getting tons of callers to stop. THEY DID NOT. No one requested that stupid song again after that. 😎
@@user-jv5fn4js6u atleast the Eagles have some classics like “One of these Nights” and “Life in the Fast Lane” and it sounds good. Bon Jovi sounds like cheesy Bruce Springsteen 1980’s commercials.
The problem I have with Foo Fighters is they feel very vanilla to me. They have tons of great songs, but I have a hard time feeling any emotional connection to them as a band. They feel like a band for people who don't listen to a lot of music, or at least a lot of rock.
I think somewhat of the opposite. They are capable, have a great work ethic, and I like the idea of them trying to keep rock as a viable genre.....as well as encouraging music education. The problem is many of their songs are not memorable.
Great to hear you giving Christian Vander some credit even if you are not a fan, I love Magma personally, but they're definitely not for everyone. Also love CCR, I'm seeing John Fogerty later this year, I never thought he would ever go to Europe again, so I'm feeling very lucky! You're right though, you can't like everything
They aren’t a bad band, especially when compared to others on this list. However, I can’t get into a band that uses an untranslatable invented language.
@@TheProgCorner Don't waste your time bro: Magma are truly and intrinsically awful music. We have Thinking Plague and Univers Zero (just revisited "Implosion" recently, and WOW) ...and that's plenty.
Creedence Clearwater Revival??????????????????????????? Damnnnnnnn... one of the most original bands, with great songs and musicianship. Wowwwwwww, that was a napalm bomb.
@@TheProgCorner Hahhaa.... I respect that you don't like them, it's your taste, but i wasn't expecting that at all, nobody hates CCR except you. I truly understand the reasons for example about Guns N Roses, even though i like them in general, as well as Eagles (not the biggest fan but i love some songs and especially album Hell Freezes Over - Unplugged)...
Sometimes the Foo Fighters are the only rock band invited to those stupid award shows. At least they play rock music and show respect to bands like Pink Floyd, Yes, and Rush.
I never saw why U2 deserved so much hate. I get why people don't like Bono, but he's a great singer and performer. The band is incredibly influential , and usually without people even realising it. Their first few albums were great, and Achtung Baby was great. Overrated? Yes, very. But by no means a shit band
U2 was ma-a-assively popular in the late 80s early 90s then slowly declined in quality, and they were very Earnest, so they had the double curse of being too big to be cool and too corny, and then south park latched on to Bono's ego/pretentiousness, which wasn't even that bad by rock star standards, and that was the death knell. If they disappeared after Joshua Tree they'd be hip revered icons still.
Spin Doctors FOR SURE!!! But I could not place Motley Crüe on the list as Nikki Sixx was a big supporter of my band, Disorderly Conduct, back in the day.🤘🤘🤘
I'm in my 50s now and I listened to some 1970s Kiss albums recently. My expectations were low, probably a case of being brainwashed into thinking they'd be terrible, but musically I don't see what the strong feelings are about either way. I didn't love them or hate them. I'd say I like it, to a degree. The hate they get seems like overly forced snobbery, just pissing on something crass and popular for the sake of signaling your "superior" taste. Upbeat music is always seen as shallow compared to depressing music. That's why The Velvet Underground will always be cooler than Kiss despite the fact that The Velvet Underground wrote mostly objectively bad music. Ace Frehley I will say is very underrated as a guitarist, and he was doing tapping before EVH. I play guitar and looking at some Kiss tabs they're harder to play than some might realize. A lot of Beatles and Led Zeppelin riffs are simpler than an average Kiss riff. Guitar players tend to like Kiss. Okay that's the good points, the bad points are that none of them can sing well and the lyrics are typical cock rock cliches. After 1977 they're mostly meh. And Gene Simmons is a douche, but that shouldn't make you judge the music.
Yes I don’t hate everything by Kiss but I sure hate how popular they were. Great outfits and stage show cannot make up for lack of talent, simple ass songs, and juvenile lyrics. A few of the early albums were OK before they blew up.
Nobody put on a live concert experience like KISS. They knew who their target audience was like the master marketers they were. I'm not a major fan but can appreciate their place in rock music history.
I just found myself laughing all through this Scot 😄 , we can't like everything can we !!! Great fun and I can wholeheartedly agree with the vast majority of your list , some of these very very famous bands aren't everyone's cup of tea. 😍
Funny story about Kiss (Whom I don’t like) is their original idea for a band name was Fuck, but they quickly realized they most likely wouldn’t get much airplay.
Of the bands I've spent time on here, I have to say that I love Def Leppard, at least "Hysteria" and "Pyromania" (masterpiece!). I also love Oasis despite everything, their debut is a fantastic record and they have a lot of good stuff elsewhere too - especially the early b-sides. Guns N' Roses has a lot of good songs. And I love good country music in general. Great video, I love that it's okay to dislike music - I for one don't feel offended by any of this! :)
@@gj8683 That's exactly it. Gene Simmons especially understood the marketing to young teen boys aspect. The face paint, the costumes, the pyrotechnics, the comic books, the collector dolls and on and on. I had a buddy in junior high who was literally obsessed with KISS 24/7. It took him about 25 years to finally let go, and now he looks back in embarrassment. Simmons understood Barnum and Bailey (there's a sucker born every minute). He admitted in an interview that they were mediocre musicians, but they laughed all the way to the bank.
If i had to pick a couple of artists i wouldn't like hearing, it would probably be Ariana Grande and, of course, Maroon 5. Your pick for Maroon 5 is totally justified.
Fun video, Scot! I strongly agree with 12 of your 15. I love CCR (I think I inherited that from my mom who was a big fan), like Def Leppard, and am sort of neutral on the Eagles (and you’re right, other than Walsh’s input they are a country band). But still that’s a really close match in our tastes.
I was also with you until CCR, where I have some sympathy for an artist who was not allowed to play his own music live, and got sued for sounding too much like himself. 'Centerfield' though...I could never hear that song again and be ok with that.
Classy way to do a list like this - instead of calling it "15 Worst Bands" youre freely admitting this is just your subjective opinion, and you give these bands some props too. I'll sub.
I believe Gene's invention of merchandising IS the reason why so many people despise Kiss. But I'm willing to forgive it because The Elder is a stellar prog album that so many people sleep on because it came from the unlikeliest of bands.
Hi Scott, give Magma another chance...! One thing about Magma is Christian Vander's devotion for John Coltrane. If you substitute, in your mind, the voices for a saxophone, it starts to make sense. Also IMO if the rhythm section works, everything works, and Christian Vander always had the BEST bass players available - each of them a legend! Now, if you don't dig John Coltrane, that's a different matter...
Hey which of the first three Magma albums is the most Soft Machine/Zappa like? I don't think I am ready for the howling vocals but I recall hearing the first three albums are more jazz less zheul.
@@TheProgCorner that's a trap! It doesn't have to make sense. Flying Teapot doesn't make sense, Lamb doesn't make sense... don't fall into that! Let the music flow... It carries the same spiritual weight as Coltrane. It's imbued in love...
(Edited for clarity) Limp Bizkit were pretty good in small doses back in '99-2K, but now, there is that 90s nostalgia, which may explain a resurgence in their popularity. I have nothing against LB, sometimes will crank their 1999 hits whenever they rotate. It's good for a laugh!
Don't like any of the bands you mentioned including the bands at the beginning of the episode, but Magma I adore. Fantastic episode as always, cheers my friend and prog on.
Hey Scott! Been awhile since I popped into The Prog Corner Good to see you’re still going strong my friend! When I seen the title here I was intrigued because I too have zero love for a few bands and wanted to see if we had some common ground as far as that goes. And we do actually. But there’s are a few here that I might take issue with. First one being Foo Fighters. Jesus I just don’t get why people hate on Dave Grohl so much The guy is an obvious talent He was part of one the most influential bands of all time in Nirvana then after the tragic loss of his band mate he drug himself out of his grief and wrote one of the coolest debut albums of all time! Then he became a huge success with the FF! Just about everyone in RnR loves to work with this guy God he’s a killer song writer My wife and I were just talking about how great of a guy he is and how he does a lot of charitable deeds. I think people tend to hate on the success of the artist rather than the art itself. I just cannot get on board with throwing hate GNR either I remember when that debut album came out it blew my mind! There wasn’t a song on that album I didn’t know by heart as I spun it so much. Sure they wavered and Axl was a c*ck but it’s like you said about Creed How could 50 million people be so wrong? Onto my final band that I can’t agree with you on and that’s CCR! Jesus I about spewed my morning coffee across the room when you said Creedence LoL! I didn’t expect them to make your list Absolute legends! Such a unique sound In fact I’d say they created a genre Swamp Rock! Sure Fogherty is a dick but I just can’t argue with the great songs and the success! I would maybe argue the Eagles as well as they seem to be a fun band to dump on since a fictional character The Big Lebowski mentioned he hated them in a movie once Geez then everyone hated them! LoL! Great fun Scott! Always cool to see ya out here getting it done! These “Bands I Hate” vids always spark great conversation It’s like Opinions & A$$holes Everybody has one! Haha! Peace Brother~Cosmic Brian ✨✌️👽✨
I knew CCR would throw a wrench in the works!!! (And that was the whole point!!!) And as far as Dave Grohl goes: he and I ran in the same Punk circles back in the day. I was a HUGE fan of Scream and, of course, Nirvana later on. So I came to FF with extreme high expectations… You are the best!!!!!
@@YiannisIliakis Emehntehtt-Re can only be considered a comeback if you've never listened to any of their live shows. Like 75% of the material on the album was recycled from those.
i love magma! definitely try to get into them again! i was the same way with van der graaf generator and with both bands, the rewards have been amazing!
I honestly really do respect that you're open about how it's okay for people to like different music than you and that hating a band is a personal thing, we've all been on the receiving end of someone trashing stuff we like and it doesn't feel great, but there is still a space for expressing what you don't like so long as you don't get a big head about it. To my understanding the problem with Creed is and has always been Scott Stapp - as evidenced by the fact the rest of the band stayed together when he left, got a new singer, changed their name to Alter Bridge, and put out Blackbird as their second album, what a great record that is. Most of your list I don't really have particularly strong feelings about one way or another, a few I suppose rise to the level of what I call "Aggressive Indifference" aside from a couple good songs (the Eagles have Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane, maybe Take it Easy and a couple others I can't remember, but I can absolutely leave the rest). As for what music I "hate", I agree that it's a pretty strong word, and one I'm more likely to apply to individual songs rather than artists as a whole. There are artists I don't really get the appeal of aside from maybe a few songs (a lot of pop punk bands fit that for me, it was huge in the mid-00's right when I was a teenager and in the right time to get into it, but I never really did aside from a few songs later on), artists I like just fine but not nearly as much as their reputations suggest I should (in prog spaces, I'd say Genesis and Transatlantic fit that, but I'm still open to them growing on me)... But as for artists that just annoy me, I can really only think of a handful. I'm generally not into country (with some exceptions), despite being from West Virginia where it seemed most people were, and I could probably pick on a few country singers, but I'll stick to my (former) home state and say Brad Paisley is the one I "hate", if you think that saying "I'd like to check you for ticks" is a good flirt you need some help. Kid Rock has always been a bit of a hack to me, even before his recent turn to baiting controversy for attention he always just took other people's songs and made them more obnoxious, and I'll never forgive him for how many times I've had to hear All Summer Long, one of the most annoying songs ever recorded. And my equivalent to your putting CCR at the top that will get everyone mad at me is that I have a personal vendetta against Frank Sinatra, I don't get what people like about him. I hate his voice, I hate his personality, I hate most of the songs he did, and when I like one of the songs generally (like Fly Me to the Moon) I hate his recording of it. I dunno, man, he just rubs me every wrong way.
Sorry but The Beatles had merchandising sown up way before Gene Simmons!!!....Totally agree with CCR....I don't get what people see in them. We have a Creedence tribute band where I live in Perth Australia. I'm a drummer and I would have to slash my wrists before I played a CCR song
@@RoyPage1970 Brian Epstein foolishly gave away the Beatles' merchandising rights, thinking that the revenues would be too small for him to be concerned about. It was one of his greatest blunders, along with selling off their publishing rights. Epstein was a keen business man, and he did a lot of great things for the Beatles, but he didn't know a lot about the music industry and had zero experience managing a band, so he made some crucial mistakes. However, we probably never would have heard of the Beatles without him.
I agree with you on DMB. Like the guys in U2 but do not care for their music AT ALL. One band not mentioned that I hate….Aerosmith. If they come on the radio, I immediately turn the station. And, yeah….I LOVE CCR!
70s Aerosmith kicks ass! I grew up in the 80s and 90s so I thought that they were only pretty good (Pump, Permanent Vacation) to bad (all those soundalike ballads in the 90s)for far too long as well but I am glad that I eventually went backwards and found the great stuff.
Hate Guns & Roses. I can't stand the same and then one comment in the song. What's so civil about war Anyway, it's so stupid. It just made me hate the band.
That was fun to hear a take on Guns and Roses that I share. I do remember their distinctiveness when they hit, before they were mega popular. I'm sure it was clearer to someone seeing them on the strip in the mid 80s. I think one palatable contribution from them this is image/cultural: They kind of pulled the mainstream rock bands away from the big hair and multi color spandex thing. By the end of the 80s, the Poisony bands were starting to do more blue jeans and normal hair. So it wasn't the Nirvana record necessarily that killed the glam sort of look in mainstream.. they killed what was left, the half-way biker look.
Lol I was with you until the Creedence hate at number 1...if they're good enough for The Dude they're good enough for me! Good video and great reasonings otherwise, though I do wonder what hate lists have Radiohead on them, never seen them on any before...in my mind the only ones who hate Radiohead are contrarians who want to hate something that's good just because it's popular.
This was exciting to see!!! A few bands here that I *love* personally. Nickelback, seen them a few times in concert and they always bring the heat live, many people don’t realize how heavy they actually are (especially live). They were my first ever concert too!! Haha. Def Leppard, the early stuff, I like as well. Eagles are another one. CCR I don’t mind some tunes. I think there was one more too. But then there’s all the others you mentioned. I agree with most all of them, imo. Mumford and Sons are in the same league (to me) as the Lumineers… which is a league of total, boring bullsh… Also I’m with you on GnR too. First album is decent… and they have done their best to survive on it for 36 years since. The fans don’t help, with the fact that most people are stuck in a nostalgia wave. This was a cool video Scott!!! 🤘🤗🎵
'Put me in coach' This song comes on at work but the radio is too far away to walk over and tune to the hard rock station. 'Take me down to the paradise city where the grass is green and the girls are pretty'. I'm chopin' broccoli here. 'Take it to the limit one more time'. This line was repeated more than once, more, OK?
I am in totally agreement with all of the bands you have picked and the comments about them, the one thing is that on some of the albums there is the odd song that is ok, so maybe you should do a show on albums that are stinkers with the odd good track, worth a thought!!
My hate list could go on forever😅, i do like Civil War by GnR though, and Proud Mary by CCR. What do you think about Electric Light Orchestra(ELO)? Their early stuff was proggy
When I watched interviews with the founder of Def Leppard, I eventually realized he was basically trying to create the 80s version of Kiss: less about the music, more about the spectacle/image. No, they didn’t spit blood, but the 80s had a different idea of “excess” so I think it fits.
Dude !! I Agree With Them All Accept CCR!! But Then I Am Sn Old Hippie!!! first 3 Credence Albums Masterworks... But Then I Was Really Really Stoned!!!!
I could never stand the Gallagher brothers! Such insufferable egos. I was at a loss for words when I learned one of them wiped Peter Green's signature off of a Les Paul just because he could.
Well, about KISS you are not considering they did had an influence on 80s Heavy Metal and Glam/Sleaze bands...by 76 there was nothing heavier than ' Detroit Rock city' playing on the radios...also songs like Love gun, 100.000 years, I want you, God of thunder and I stole your love were definitely 80s Hard Rock pioneers...Gene Simmons imagery also influenced Black Metal bands...I respect people who hate KISS but I also know most of them ignore their influence on 80s and 90s Metal genres.
When did Coldplay do a 20 minute prog song? Whats it called? Did i miss that somewhere? There was 10 minute epic on the last album which is superb called "coloratura" which i think many 'prog' fans would like
Damn, between Pete Pardo's #1 most hated band being Counting Crows and now this #1 being Creedence Clearwater Revival, I'm starting to think the prog community hates me personally. If the next prog channel with a hate list has the Beach Boys as #1 (or if that video already exists), I'll know for sure. Beyond that, I don't have too much to say about the list. I've owned most of the Foo Fighter albums at one point or another, but I've only ever found a handful of songs on each album interesting, but the ones that grip me grip me hard (All My Life, Stacked Actors, Everlong, I'll Stick Around, The Pretender). As for ones I would have on my own list, barring pop stars like Taylor Swift, I would say Buckcherry (to be fair, they have a couple of songs that are guilty pleasures for me--it's a bit audacious, to say the least, to make a hook out of "I love the cocaine, I love the cocaine"--but most of their songs are just kind of boring), U2 (I love the hell out of War and a few random songs along the way, but they've just never gripped me), and, as my controversial choice, The Doors. I'm not saying they're a terrible band or anything that contrarian, but The Doors just don't move me all that much, especially the way Jim Morrison laconically sings on most of the songs; I've listened to the two disc greatest hits, and there are times when he isn't singing like a drunk lounge singer that's too cool to try anymore, and those are the moments I like best, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather listen to Julie Driscoll/Brian Auger's cover of Light My Fire or just about anything by Them (at least when Van Morrison was fronting the band) or The Animals.
Wow Scott ! I love your podcasts but didn’t see you nominating Def Leppard amongst some of the obvious choices . I totally agree with you about the boring fake in fighting of the Gallagher brothers .in Oasis I also agree with your selection of Foo Fighters ,Guns nRoses and Mumford and Sons I can’t believe you don’t like Eagles , I thought that everybody loved them . lol
I agree with 90% of your choices and agree with your comments on Kiss and Radiohead. I love both bands. Radiohead have some masterpiece albums. As far as your list goes I really enjoy the Eagles especially their first 4 albums. It’s just such chill southern Sou ding music and there are some great tunes on Desperado. I do enjoy both Hotel California and Long Run albums too with Mr.Walsh who adds some edge. I find Def Leppard’s first 3 albums great too. Some solid rock songs on there and great catchy melodies. CCR get some respect from me too,but I am not the biggest fan of theirs. Wondering if you like Little Feat? They are such a secret treasure. So many awesome albums and Lowell was a great player. They seem to always sneak under the radar. Great episode. Cheers from 🇨🇦🇨🇦
All right then, you've put me in the mood. The Ramones...every number sounds the same...and they're all junk. Bad Company...every number sounds the same...and they're all horrible. Status Quo...every number sounds the same...but they're decent chaps. Led Zeppelin...total bunch of bastards...took tracks by Muddy Waters and other black American bluesmen then credited themselves as the writers so when their LPs sold millions, they pilfered the proceeds and denied royalties to the black men whose music they stole...and Plant's a rotten singer...and Page is vastly over-rated...and Bonham's just a thumper...Jones is the only one with any smidgen of talent. Pink Floyd...another bunch of bastards...Another Brick In The Wall they sing, from their luxurious tax haven in the south of France...and Waters the Jew hater is just the icing on the cake. The Clash...sorry Scot, I know you like them but really, I cannot tolerate that bunch...and as for that Sandinista rubbish...releasing an LP in defence of terrorists and murderers...ugh! There. That's soon said. There are plenty of other bands whose music I don't like but I can tolerate them because they have something to say or because there are usually a few decent pieces that are good etc. All right then...now I'll go and crouch in my corner and grumble sourly in the dark.
I feel like it was the same rock critics who adored CCR in the early 70s who then heaped abuse on prog rock. They kinda represent two totally different approaches to rock music in the early 70s. CCR is simple, direct, rootsy, unassuming, whereas prog rock is complex, meandering, otherworldly, and ambitious.
Yeah man, there are lots of bands worse than Creedence. No-one would dare diss The Band, and CCR have a similar vibe to these untrained British ears. Still, it's up to Scot. Some folk don't even care for The Beatles.
I like the set of adjectives here. A lot of even FANS of prog rock end up using the same terms prog critics always use. Pretentious, etc... the list we're all familiar with.
Agree with most of your list. Black Keys though Dan Auerbach is responsible for bringing a lot of exposure to underrated musicians and whether you like their music or not, he deserves a lot of credit for what he does with his music label for great underrepresented music.
Great video, my friend! Very entertaining and even if folks may not agree with all of your choices you sure do a great job of explaining why you don't like them. Prog on!~Sebastian
I agree with you on Coldplay and Chris Martin… BUT… I admit I really really liked their second and third albums quite a lot. It’s been really amusing to me how insufferable and obnoxiously “positive” Martin and their music has become over the last fifteen years or so. I don’t mean that positive music in and of itself is bad. It’s just that Coldplay’s music since (I believe) Mylo Xyloto in 2011 (ugh) has been so syrupy and cloying that it just turns me off big time. I mean they definitely had some syrupy songs on the two albums I really like (Fix You is the biggest one IMO), but I did like their more contemplative stuff, like Clocks. But yeah, now, 100% agree.
I put bruce springsteen on the top of my list. I don't hate the band I just can't get it. I like a few of their songs but think most of the radio hit are crap
You are right, we don't have to like everything, but I have a friend that likes The Black Keys and I'm thinking of checking them out at some point. I've listened to some of those bands myself such as Def Leppard, Maroon 5, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Eagles, and CCR. I also did grow up with some of Maroon 5's music, but don't like as many of their newer songs as their older songs.
You lost me at “Meg White was a terrible drummer”. She’s the BEST part of the band!!! Her drum beats are god damn MAMMOTH and LUMBERING!!! MASSIVE drum beats! She’s genuinely one of my favourite drummers of all time! Without her the White Stripes woulda just been another post-punk revival band with a great song writer. But with her they were one of the most unique and distinguished post-punk revival bands. And YOOOOO can’t believe you don’t like MAGMA!!!! Another of my favourite drummers of all time!!! That band changed my LIFE!!! Totally agree with G&R. Everything I hate about rock music all in one single band.
For Def Leppard, I can understand that you don't like songs like Pour Some Sugar on Me (I would add Rocket, Let's Get Rocked and a lot of other songs as well). But, hey man, their first three album kick ass.
Scott , a British rock band that are a bit marmite , are ….The Darkness ! What do people think about them as I know that singer Justin Hawkins isn’t everyone’s cup of tea ?
My list of 15 bands I hate in no order are: GnR, Coldplay, Billy Joel, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, The Eagles, The Ramones, Jeff Beck/Rod Stewart/Faces, The Police, Nickleback, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and The Grateful Dead.
Wow, I had the assumption that you didn’t like them as you hadn’t mentioned them or ranked their albums since now but as a Magma fan I disagree but I can understand that the music is not for everybody. To each their own 👍 There Live album from 1975 is incredible with fusing Jazz-Rock, Classical & Prog.
I think some people hate some bands because we went to school with a-holes who loved certain bands and taunted us for the bands we loved and never forgot them for it…even though we would grow to like those bands and even meet some of the musicians in the bands we once hated, and would get to tell them the bullying story. A lot of these rock stars were bullied too so they were usually compassionate and apologetic when hearing our stories.
Yeah, I’m the parental unit 😊still think your number one and three are a couple of good bands and I love Fogerty’s centerfield so there son :-)
There we go!!!!! My Dad!!!! Ladies and Gentleman: it’s all his fault!!!!!!
Love you, Dad!!!! 👍👍❤️❤️👍👍
You had me until CCR. Absolutely one of my favourite American bands of all time and the fact that they put out all of those classic records in under 5 years blows my mind. Definitely not varied in their sound but neither were AC/DC or the Ramones and they were great too.
Totally agree. You don't have to be super versatile to be great. You just have to do that thing you do really well- and CCR does.
~~ love how in the Big Lebowski the dude loves CCR - but hates the Eagles ..
@@billyz5088 I don't like "Hotel California" too
When you have a sound as great as CCR (or AC/DC, or the Ramones, or Motorhead), why vary? They've hit upon the perfect thing, just build more and more songs with that sound. A lot of the bands that try to vary things a lot just end up having more songs that I don't like and have to skip. I never have to skip a song on a CCR, AC/DC, Ramones, or Motorhead album. There are no songs I dislike. (Okay, I admit I'm sick of "Ride On" by AC/DC, but, otherwise...)
CCR rules. John Fogerty is a great great innovator.
I really agree with the Dave Matthews Band. I always thought of it as Yuppie jazz with no soul. Love your channel.
DMB had one interesting ingredients. All in all, a band I liked more in the abstract than I generally managed while listening to them.
Yeah, no can do!!!!
I never understood the popularity
I just coud not like that nasally yodelly singing even if some of the songs were a little catchy.

Jon Bon Jovi can't sing. "Dead or Alive" has to be the worst vocal performance ever to make it to radio.
I think Bon Jovi it's a better than "Eagles"
Bon Jovi is a terrible band.
@@user-jv5fn4js6u atleast the Eagles have some classics like “One of these Nights” and “Life in the Fast Lane” and it sounds good. Bon Jovi sounds like cheesy Bruce Springsteen 1980’s commercials.

Totally agree with Oasis. Awful band, bad songs, nasty whiny vocals.
And dreadful lyrics.

I like Wonderwall and Acquiesce and Talk Tonight are good but very overated especially by themselves and mostly boring and derivative.
@@lemming9984 I love Def Leppard, KISS, Poison etc but I HATE Guns And Roses. It's mostly to do with Axl Rose's whinny voice.
The problem I have with Foo Fighters is they feel very vanilla to me. They have tons of great songs, but I have a hard time feeling any emotional connection to them as a band. They feel like a band for people who don't listen to a lot of music, or at least a lot of rock.
Too much guitar distortion and compression. Good songs but bad arrangements.
I think somewhat of the opposite. They are capable, have a great work ethic, and I like the idea of them trying to keep rock as a viable genre.....as well as encouraging music education. The problem is many of their songs are not memorable.
I just think it's weird that they're considered good while Creed and Nickelback are considered bad.
I agree with most of your choices, but CCR, WOWW I fell off my chair !! John Fogerty & Co ,great music, great voice !!
I had to throw in a controversial curve ball…
Yeah, the CCR at #1 threw me for a loop too. An American musical institution. But hey, I can also see where they aren't everyone's cup of tea.
Eagles I agree with (boring), but CCR has made some classic music.
Maybe DESPERADO had some Country things...otherwise, no.
I saw the Eagles in the '70s. Played very well live, no BS.
IIRC, CCR was one of the highest paid acts at Woodstock.

KISS deserves to be on this list WAY more than some of the bands who were on it.
Probably.
Absolutely. I tried very hard to like KISS but they’re total crap.
I love Magma so much. Their music is so fluid and uplifting when I need it.

They aren’t a bad band, especially when compared to others on this list. However, I can’t get into a band that uses an untranslatable invented language.

I never saw why U2 deserved so much hate. I get why people don't like Bono, but he's a great singer and performer.
The band is incredibly influential , and usually without people even realising it.
Their first few albums were great, and Achtung Baby was great. Overrated? Yes, very. But by no means a shit band
I agree 100%
U2 was ma-a-assively popular in the late 80s early 90s then slowly declined in quality, and they were very Earnest, so they had the double curse of being too big to be cool and too corny, and then south park latched on to Bono's ego/pretentiousness, which wasn't even that bad by rock star standards, and that was the death knell.
If they disappeared after Joshua Tree they'd be hip revered icons still.
My list is very much the same but replace CCR with Train. How did you leave freaking TRAIN of this list? Fun list otherwise.
How could you leave on Yom Kippur? Now that’s good songwriting…
you left out motley crue, spin doctors.
Spin Doctors FOR SURE!!!
But I could not place Motley Crüe on the list as Nikki Sixx was a big supporter of my band, Disorderly Conduct, back in the day.🤘🤘🤘

@clvrswine What a joke he is. I saw them back in the day and they were awful.
yes, KISS has got to be at the top of the list.
truly effing horrible.
Agree.
@@kevinlindberg2220 KISS was the worst show i've ever seen live.

Thank you!!!! It’s all in good cheer…
Personally, I'm not huge on kiss. I can't deny their success though and yeah, they have a couple of songs I like
That’s about it…
Kiss reminds me of Microsoft. Consistently better at marketing than anything else.
@@gj8683
That's exactly it.
Poor Ariana Grande!!!
Adriana Grande is singer not a band
Fun video, Scot! I strongly agree with 12 of your 15. I love CCR (I think I inherited that from my mom who was a big fan), like Def Leppard, and am sort of neutral on the Eagles (and you’re right, other than Walsh’s input they are a country band). But still that’s a really close match in our tastes.
I knew Eagles, Def Leppard and CCR would be a little divisive. But the whole idea was to start a conversation!!!!
Pete Pardo is certainly with you on Magma. I agree on about half of the bands you mentioned.
That’s not bad…
I was also with you until CCR, where I have some sympathy for an artist who was not allowed to play his own music live, and got sued for sounding too much like himself. 'Centerfield' though...I could never hear that song again and be ok with that.
Oh the irony!!!!!
Classy way to do a list like this - instead of calling it "15 Worst Bands" youre freely admitting this is just your subjective opinion, and you give these bands some props too. I'll sub.
Thank you!!!! I try to be open minded and even handed!!!!
@@TheProgCorner That's a good way to be.

So I came to FF with extreme high expectations…

I know I’m missing out and I makes me angry!!! And a little sad…
Ole Blue Eyes was a wannabe gangster clown.
Sorry but The Beatles had merchandising sown up way before Gene Simmons!!!....Totally agree with CCR....I don't get what people see in them. We have a Creedence tribute band where I live in Perth Australia. I'm a drummer and I would have to slash my wrists before I played a CCR song

It was one of his greatest blunders, along with selling off their publishing rights.

I love it when we get all negative here for a change!!!!! 👍👍👍
Thanks, Sebastian!!!!
When I first heard of The Black Keys, my reaction was: "Oh, is it a collaboration of Alicia Keys with The Black-Eyed Peas?"
That would have been better!!!
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day Scot ❤😊
Thank you!!!!!!
If I were immortal and I never had to listen to a single song by The Killers until the heat death of the universe...it would be too soon.
👍👍👍
"When you marry Avril Lavigne, I know where your headspace is at...." HAAAAAAAAAAA!
Your energy is uplifting.
Tell that to some of the jokers in the comments who think what I do is all an act…
@@TheProgCorner Be grateful for the haters.
I enjoy your enthusiastic analysis. This is a fun vid. Great topic. I may have to do my own take on this topic.
✌🏻😁👍🏻
You definitely should. The numbers look great so far!!!!
I tagged you in the description of my video. I chose 10 bands.
And you have a new subscriber, too. Thanks!

@@TheProgCorner I put it here in the comments but I don't see it now. So I emailed it to you. 😁👍🏻
They frustrate me so much because I know there’s a really good band in there!!!
I absolutely love Radiohead, and I swear that they are very prog-like.
I think they are PROG!!! Whether they like it or not…
I put bruce springsteen on the top of my list. I don't hate the band I just can't get it. I like a few of their songs but think most of the radio hit are crap
No doubt. I left him off my list for ONE REASON: the song “No Surrender” off Born In The USA. It’s an all time favorite of mine…
👍👍👍
You are mostly right but hey, Magma... one of the BEST bands ever!
I will keep trying!!!
One day I will understand Magma. But I don’t know about Meg’s drumming…
For Def Leppard, I can understand that you don't like songs like Pour Some Sugar on Me (I would add Rocket, Let's Get Rocked and a lot of other songs as well). But, hey man, their first three album kick ass.
Steve Clark was a guitar god.
For the most part I agree apart from The Dave Matthews Band and CCR, i especially like the former!
Scott , a British rock band that are a bit marmite , are ….The Darkness !
What do people think about them as I know that singer Justin Hawkins isn’t everyone’s cup of tea ?
American audiences never really took to them!!!
Thank you!!! Let it all out!!!!
This was as solid a list as I've ever seen on YT(Dave Matthews aside)😁
I know a lot of people with excellent taste in music who adore them. So I admit that I could be wrong…
"Brian Eno couldn't save them", ha ha, perfect!
I got into Genesis with Duke and don't care for anything before.
Really? Interesting…
Wow, I had the assumption that you didn’t like them as you hadn’t mentioned them or ranked their albums since now but as a Magma fan I disagree but I can understand that the music is not for everybody. To each their own 👍
There Live album from 1975 is incredible with fusing Jazz-Rock, Classical & Prog.
One day I will “crack the code.”
I think a lot of us went through something like that…
Great list !! Agree with all your picks brother !!
Thanks!!!🙏
