I went from couch to hiking this trail. I went up starting at 9 AM and didn’t get back down until 11 PM. I was so sore afterwards I couldn’t even step off a street curb for a week straight 😂. My shoulders were bruised from carrying the backpack for so long. Should have packed lighter. Glad I packed a flashlight for the last stretch though as I would have been stranded on the mountain without it since it was pitch black. I thought I was going to be down a lot earlier. It was all worth it in hindsight though and you get a great sense of accomplishment!
@@FinerBub yeah! Only thing pressing me forward towards the end is not wanting to be stuck on the mountain for the night. My legs were killing me and I stumbled and fell twice towards the end.
Love the video! Brought back so many memories of my trip up the exact route you took. Mine was in 1972 and I was 15 years old! Something you never forget!
I was planning to hike this trail, however, after watching this video, I realized that it is too challenging and decided just to drive the to top. thanks, great video.

A great hike. We do 10 days up there every August. Hike all the white Mountains We don’t use backpacks. We use fishing vests. They distribute the weight better. We both have LL Bean nice top of the line fishing vest. You can carry more with even distribution.
About a month ago I attempted this hike, but had nearly 40 lbs of weight on my back while holding the leashes for my 8lb Shih Tzu and 18 lb terrier. I had a tent and food for several days because I planned on camping overnight, but made the mistake of not bringing a water filter and started to run out of water about a mile before the summit. Had to turn back, but I’ll be back up there with my dogs again sometime this year! Thanks for the video.
if u were that close 2 the summit y turn back?it would have been the best choice 2 keep going as u were much closer 2 water and stuff than turning around.easy 4 me 2 say tho as ive never hiked it.only done cannon mnt in about 2hrs.and i think u would b smarter 2 leave the dogs behind just sayin.
done this trail 2 times, its so fun. was just there last month but did lions head this time, that was a more challenging hike. love hiking here but i do day trips there and its 10 hours round trip from CT.
My friends and I just hiked this the other day and we felt the same way about the top 🙃 Was really hard to enjoy the summit amidst all the tourist chaos, and it felt very overwhelming/rushed. Didnt get to soak it all in... It was a fun (yet challenging) hike overall though. We went up Lions Head though and had a blast scrambling over those giant rocks! Probably my favorite part of the hike! Oh, we also hiked on a Tuesday and the trail itself was super bare, pretty much had it all to ourselves which was nice. 😁 Great video, thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for your video. Been there , done that.(all the trails, except AT trails, Even climbed Huntingdon Ravines) It was the best Mountain, Until I hike the mt. Katahdin,Maine. and Half Dome ,Yosemite. But Still Is The Second Best Mountain at East Coast, Right after Mt Katahdin.
I agree. I’ve been atop both more than a half dozen times each and the Katahdin experience is better if for no other reason than it being less commercial and crowded. I do think that Huntington is more difficult than any of the Katahdin trails and maybe the Great Gulf head wall also.
I’m planning on trying this hike this summer as I’m just getting into hiking. You made a very nice detailed and informative video and makes me more excited!
I'd like to hike up to the Lakes of the Clouds. I've seen some outstanding and gorgeous photos from Mt Lafayette and Franconia Ridge trail loop as well. I have to drive to NH. I'm from NY. I need to join a hiking group since it'll be my first time in NH.
Yeah it is beautiful up there. The Lincoln Lafayette loop is a great day hike. If you can't find a group to go with, try driving up on a weekend in the summertime and hiking it during daylight hours. It will feel more crowded but there will be enough other people around you on the trails to feel confident that you won't get lost. Most people are more than happy to give advice or directions if you ask politely. However I do agree that it is always safer to hike with at least one other person, but who knows, you may end up making a friend or two on the trail. The AMC Highland Center and Pinkham Notch Visitors center are also good places to meet fellow hikers. Good luck!
Great video, I down hiked this trail today after summitting Washington this morning. We did lions head the Tuckermans …. my teenage daughter and I did the southern end of the presi traverse and stayed at lake of the clouds last night. So we hiked it on weekdays and there were hardly any people out. I also hiked it with minimal water knowing we had sources just as you described. No a@@holes thankfully, I think they only come out on weekends … thanks for the content and I’m a new subscriber.
Hey thanks man welcome to the channel! Glad you enjoyed the video. Sounds like you had an awesome time! I’ve gotta get back out there sometime and hike it on a quiet day. Thanks for sharing your experience! Great comment
We summited a few days ago up the Cog Railway access road, but we ran out of time and had to take the train down. I’ve been snowboarding a lot on Tuckerman Ravine, we’re gonna go summit there in a few weeks instead and start much earlier.
Hiked this in the fall of 2020. There was no one there and it was exhausting. What a journey! Great video and I hope you and the crew had fun! Also... I thought the top of the bowl was the top of the mountain at the time... that last part over the razor sharp rocks was rough!
@@FinerBub very welcome! Just subbed 👍, I did a video on My Washington as well, I didn't get the good views so it was good to see what it actually looks like at the top 🤣
Were those bagpipes you had on your back ? Damn you could have droned out that person playing music by going into a rendition of James Brown's " Papa gotta brand new bag... 😅
I took a cog train last year to the summit, and while the train was moving, I saw two hikers with their bluetooth speaker hanging and blasting trash music which all of us in the train can hear it. I would be seriously pissed if I was hiking and have to deal with them.
I hiked that baby when I was thirty years old and at thirty three. We hiked the auto road down after we made summit the second time. We could barely walk after. Absolutely beautiful up there and great video. The idiot playing their music would have infuriated me.
Excellent video. Your multiple comments about radio was very funny. I totally get it. Btw, did you use Lion head descend ? Thank you for a great learning video. Heading out in End of August to do this hike.

The time was my question. I survived the sixties twice and this is on my bucket list! Just got an invite from an experienced hiker for late summer. Tuckermans definitely hard, but looks doable. Seeing you winned early made me feel better. Easy and long or short and hard. I like shorter! Did the tops of your knee's get really burnt?

I have a question. I’m doing this exact hike on October 7th. As someone who has done this hike around this time (kinda) do you think it’s be safe to bring my dog (borderaussie) & do you think we’d need spikes?
I would regularly check the weather leading up to your hike. If it snows, bring the spikes. The rocks will get slippery. As for the dog, completely depends on endurance. This is a long hike…
