As soon as he said: “It is finished”, a big earthquake occurred. 120 tombs were opened, and 120 dead people were resurrected. The sun hid his rays and there was darkness without a moon, without stars, a deep darkness from the 3 rd until the 9 th hour… from the 6 th until the 9 th hour… 3 hours...
Among these dead people was St. Simeon the God-receiver who circumcised Christ. The people of God, the family of St. Simeon the God-receiver wrote down his testimony which described the way Christ visited Hades while Simeon, himself, was also in Hades. He said: “We heard three knocks. It was the Lord. And He was knocking as a most noble Lord and wanted them to open Hades for Him. Although, He could open Hades Himself as a sovereign, most noble as He is, He was asking them to open.”
And said “Lift up the gates, O you rulers, And be lifted up, you everlasting doors, And the King of glory shall enter”
Up until that point, the doors which were locked eternally should be opened because the King of glory visited hell and the doors should be opened before Him. Behind the doors of Hell was the Devil. All the other demons had deserted him and left him alone.
The Devil would not leave. And he answered:
“Who is this King of Glory?”
“Who are you that you call yourself “King of Glory”? I don’t know you. I am not opening.”
Christ repeated His words one more time and the Devil repeated also the same: “Who is this King of Glory?”
The third time, after the Devil wanted to know who this King of Glory is, Christ answered like this:
“The Lord of powers, He is the King of Glory” and immediately the Devil was lost, the doors fell off on their own and entered inside the Sovereign, the Creator of the world, the Light of the world, the Joy of those who were expecting him in Hell.
Because the prophets were prophesizing that the Messiah is close. But when St. John the Forerunner met them [said]: “Rejoice, the Messiah has come! I was the one who baptized Him!”
Then, St. Simeon went and told them “I was the one to circumscribe Him” St. John the Forerunner went and told them “I was the one who baptized Him”.
And they were expecting a little more time for Him to appear and save them from the darkness of hell. As soon as the voice of God was heard, His light shined more than [the light of] sun, Hades was filled with light, joy, hope and the Christ shouted:
“Where are the first men [“protoplastoi”], everybody rushed to Him. The first men, the prophets,
St. John the Forerunner, St. Simeon. And the Ascension started. He said: “All those who believe in Me, come near me to take you to heaven.”

The souls were going to heaven and they were overjoyed that they were freed of darkness and hell and were now going to heaven. Those were told by St. Simeon to his family with whom he was in contact for 40 days. And not just Simeon, the same with the rest 119 souls who were saying the same and they were joyful in narrating the triumph of the Resurrection of Christ.

“Those who have believed in Christ are superior to the world. You have beaten the world.
Do not be afraid! All those who have believed in Christ are children of God and the children of God have nothing to fear…”
As the Lord said: “Yes, they will persecute you because of Me, but not a hair of your head shall be lost.”
I will save you, I will take you with me in heaven and you will rejoice for the centuries of centuries. We do not accept distortion of our faith! We are Orthodox Christians and we will remain Orthodox until our death. We believe that heaven was opened after the Crucifixion of Christ and He accepts all the souls that are in the world and depart but do not go to hell because they believe in Christ, do obedience to the Gospel and they will not die the second death, meaning the spiritual death, meaning go to hell. For this Christ says: “And whoever lives and believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.”

@GoldenChannel Im orthodox too.. I too had a similar issue as u now seem to be having... But as a church elder i noticed , many orthodox including the priests and bishops were barely christian forget about orthodox... At the same time i realised that good christians exist in every denomination... Hence im christian first...orthodox next... and the communion of saints is not limited to any one denomination..

The people before Christ were saved as long as they were just and didn't worship the Devil.

There is what's titled An Ancient Homily that both Orthodox and Roman catholics read during Pascha/ Western Easter that tells a beautiful story of Christ preaching to Hell's captives. But there is no source that is ever given for this homily. It's one of the most beautiful and poetic homilies, imo, and i just wonder where it is found in the church's tradition, of anyone knows.

Where is the source of this story located?
It seems that this is from the apocryphal Gospel of Nicodemus. Not sure if that is a good source or not.
Not everything has a written source.Many things are based on the unwritten tradition that is almost as important. Before script,was a church.The church was first,for about 300 years.and if for some reason the Bible will be gone,the church will still be the same.
No mention of St Joseph in the Afterlife.......pity!
I wonder what she means with "perfect resurrection" in this case. I think those who resurrected at the moment of Out Lord's death had a resurrection like that of Lazarus, not a "perfect" one. Christ had to be the first one having a perfect, glorious Resurrection, the foremost of the Resurrection of Flesh at the end of the world, followed by His Holy Mother.
Are the words Hades and Hell being interchanged here? At first she uses the word Hades then changes to hell. The Saint could not have been in Hell. But she says the people in hell were looking forward to Jesus coming. Does she mean Hades as in Limbo, the waiting place of the just who died before the gates of Heaven were opened?
Hades was a place away from God - it was what SIN did - DEATH caused MAN to lose that close connection of immortality - DEATH passed onto all mankind -
Hell was then created for the fallen angels ‘demons’ - the Devil having hatred then planned to take as many people with him through lies and deception and case confusion to further take Man away from God +
- since GOD had yet to be incarnated from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary ALL MEN went to hades - gates were closed guarded by Archangel Michael +
The Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ our God also preached in Hades and those that accepted went to Heaven as God had Intended all MANKIND to be immortal +
The Last Judgement which is just before Antichrist finishes his rule on earth 7 yrs - God will appear in the heavens and Judgment day begins for all MANKIND- those that are alive and those that are in the graves +
- we have prayers for the now dead awaiting Judgement - ‘the prayer of the rightious availeth much’through our prayers and the Saints , Theotokos Gods Mercy all Can be forgiven as long as it’s free will choice of those that accept -

What a wonderful Message. I am katholic, I never heard, that poor Souls can get out of HELL. It would be EVERLASTING.....It is confusing
The creed says that he,Christ, descended into hell or to the dead. There was only one place to go after life on earth until heaven was opened by Christ. This is not the case now. If you end up in hell it is forever at this point.
I heard none other than beauty. Hell might be eternal but not the person in it.
Many are skeptical about this claim. Anybody can make any comment about any Religion. Only you can believe and accept it. Do your research.

How does she know this? Is this an official church teaching. I think private revelations like this are dangerous.
Besides Holy Bible ,we have Holy Tradition .It's not "private reveliation".
I've never heard of demons being saved because of their prior knowledge of God that they were with in heaven salvation was not offered to them. This part does not sit with orthodox theology.
I didn't see that in the video - the demons had fled yes? She was speaking (I believe) of the reposed dead - and still there were many who still rejected Him. Orthodox teaching (as far as I understand) is that the demons can't / won't repent - they chose in eternity, while we choose continually in time.
Your testimony is inaccurate..according to the book found in the desert, there were 12,000 saints that were resurrected. 120 souls were too few starting from adam to the 12 patriarch to david, to john the baptist. You can read in psalm 18 how that david said that when he was still alive he prophesize how the lord go down to hell and lift up the everlasting gates.
There must be some misunderstanding here. Why would one think that the tomb of Adam was in Jerusalem? The HolyTradition says 120 tombs were opened and many of the resurrected visited friends and families and wandered in the town of Jerusalem for days. But 12,000 people wandering in the town? They would outnumber the local population. Anyway, the Abbess here is repeating the dialogue found in psalm 23.
Adam was relocated and tradition has it that his skull is at the base of Golgotja

If he could rescue people in hell that time why cant he do it now is it cause the people in it didn't know they had sinned against him as law wasn't written that time
As you can see, in Greece, we don't have many mental institutions so the monasteries have to accept some of the crazy ones. It's better this way, instead of having them roaming the society.

She isn't speaking of Hell. Hell doesn't yet exist. she is speaking of Hades, or what the Hebrews referred to as Sheol.
