Just had to add…you didn’t “drop out of nursing school”…rather your journey took a different path. You followed your heart!

It's nice to get to know you better, Charity. However (in my opinion), you owe no one an apology or an explanation. I agree with you - everyone must make the decisions that are right for them. I don't know of anyone who set a course for their life and it worked out just as they expected. In fact, I think we come to know who we reallly are through those unexpected things in life and how we learn to respond to them.

I hear you with the grueling nursing degree. My sister is an RN, she was so stressed out during nursing school, she got mononucleosis her final year, (she was in a 4 year program) had to miss classes, had to make them up; 😱then due to stress got alopecia areata, coin sized bald patches on her head due to stress, had to get corticosteroids injections in her scalp, the hair eventually grew back. Also had eye twitching triggered by stress and overall fatigue. It's a miracle she made it through and graduated!! She persevered through it all, she is a strong woman!!! ❤ God bless all nurses. I really think it's a problem having teens pick a college major when they are so young, how do they know what they want to do the rest of their lives. So many end up working in fields that were not their college degree! ps Now we need a video on how you and hubby met! 💞💗 💖

Charity, you made a decision looking at all sides of the issue. You made a good decision for you. Knowing the difference in helping people at a hospital and in other situations like home care shows wisdom. I'm sorry some people may be unhappy, but I'm proud of you for knowing when something wasn't working.

I went to nursing school all the way to clinicals and quit. I could not handle the people dying. No one died in my life before. I made 3rd highest grade in class. I did not want to do it. SO went business instead. My husband was upset. My instructor told me I make a good surgical nurse for doctors. I could not handle it I cried every night for people. I became depressed too when we got to the nursing home I could not believe how families did not visit or how they were treated. Homework with kids did a lot of all nighters for homework and test. Also, took cards with me every where. I also had a job and three kids. Lost down to 98 pounds. I was eating and running. I do not regret stopping it and I loved business better.

I did the same thing when l was your age but it was Early Childhood Education. I thought l loved kids, l didn't, l was too young. Ended up working full time for KFC and worked on myself and becoming an adult. Now l work for Australia's biggest health insurance company and have been there for 30 years. My heart loves helping people and making a difference to my clients on a one on one basis. I am so happy with my choice of deferring my course all those years ago.....and never going back. ❤

My mom was a nurse for many years. She used to do hours and hours of paperwork at home in her own time related to the job. Most people in college change their major several times as they explore different career choices. You have let no one down, don't think that at all. You have made choices and decisions for your life, which we all do. You have a big heart for people, Charity. All the skills and knowledge you have learned along the way may end up being used in ways you have not yet seen, but God has figured out. Keep following Him. 👍

Thank you for explaining Charity! You have to do what is best for you, and please do not feel that you have let others down. Had you not gone to nursing school you may have always wondered if you missed your calling in that field. Now you know that it was not what was best for you. You are an EMT and deal with stressful situations when you’re working with the squad, but that is different for you, and doesn’t overwhelm you. Clearly you made the best choice for you and honored what God is calling you to do. I’m glad you told us, but again you owed us no explanation so thank you for sharing what was obviously a difficult decision. You have many gifts and talents and I’m glad photography is something you are interested in and that you love that. You are living YOUR best life and I’m happy for you!!

You did a fine job in explaining your nursing situation. I am so glad you listened to your heart because that is the place God lets you in on his plans. It might be photography, and maybe down the road it will be something else. The world is so different now, it isn't a matter of getting the best job and stick with it 'til retirement no matter the stress or conditions you have to work under. You are a wise young lady and I know you and Collin will be great for one another. God Bless you both. Have a Blessed day.

Hi Charity...Thanks so much for sharing this video with us. It's obvious you are very mature and care about people. I think it's great that you tried nursing school for a year. You learned a lot about nursing, but you also learned a lot about yourself, which is very important. God has opened many doors for you, like the bakery work and your photography studies. I love that you are following your heart. ~Sherry

I went to community college for nursing to get my associate's degree and then went on to get my bachelor's degree (all through having 3 babies!) It was definitely one of the hardest things I've ever done BUT it was all pre-covid. While in school, I worked in a nursing home with geriatric residents and then when I completed my schooling, I worked in a hospital (to present). I work in psychiatric care on an inpatient unit with adults 18-65 and often older, as well as geriatric psychiatric care, and in the emergency department doing emergency psych care. Nursing can be a dangerous job sometimes. Although, one of the best parts of nursing is the flexibility. Anything you can think of - you can be a nurse for that! Also, because of the short staffing, my hospital offers incentive pay like critical overtime and double time. Plus, I can work only weekends or per diem if I want to, whatever is best for my family. Despite all this, I think focusing on getting married and also taking God's word seriously is much, much more important. What He thinks is the most important, and I don't think you let Him down. There are less and less young people thinking about marriage and starting families, and our age group (I'm 28) are not having children and now instead of over population, I keep hearing about under population! 💁‍♀️

Stress is just horrible, I'm prone to stress myself and often have to sit down and 'reset' my way of thinking. We are renovating our house just now and I can’t stand mess - the two do not go together 😂

I am happy you are doing what makes you happy. I graduated from LPN school in 1977, then married & had 5 kids & completed my RN associate degree in 1988 (took me 11 years a course @ a time) plus working,my oldest child was 8 my youngest was 3 @ My graduation. I got divorced & eventually went back for my bachelor's degree in nursing when my 5 kids were teenager's. I was pretty close to graduating but could not pass statistics. I worked as a nurse for 32 years until I was permanently disabled with medical problems. I can tell you I was told only half the people who start a nursing programs complete them. You are not alone. I am happy you changed directions to make you happy. Nursing is not for everyone. I still have friends who work in nursing & say the shortage is horrible & going to get worse. The reason I typed out my story was to let you know learning is a life long adventure & you should do what makes you happy. Even if you did not complete the nursing program I am sure it will help in your EMT work. I always admire first responders you are so special. Love your TH-cam channel.

I’m glad you figured out that nursing in a hospital setting wasn’t for you before you continued just to do it and end up hating it! Photography is lots of fun I loved taking classes in high school! I’m glad you’re getting a degree in it! You’re young and have your whole life before you! Enjoy life whatever may come! Don’t worry about disappointing us people change their minds and that’s ok!

Both my daughter and daughter in law are in their last semester of nursing school. My daughter was premed in undergrad and she said nursing school is harder than anything she had to do for her first degree. My daughter in law did home health for 6 years before deciding to get her RN, she also says its the hardest, most stressful thing she has ever done. My daughter loves the busy hospital setting of cardiac ICU where she is now for her summer internship and will become a staff nurse there in Dec. My daughter in law doesn;t like the stress of ED and ICU, she is going to work med/surg for a year, then go with infusion where she will work more 1 on 1 and many repeat patients. Both took different paths to get where they are now. You don't have to decide your life career now, but if its photography then awesome! My niece who was homeschooled now has a very successful photography career herself, so the artistic side of life may be more your thing .(As it is mine). Good luck whatever you choose, all that matters is choosing what is a good fit for you. :)

You obviously have to make decisions for yourself. Any decision you make, shouldn't be influenced by people who aren't impacted by the result. Essentially, you can't worry about other people's disappointment in either direction. That is a very mature sentiment that I am glad you came to.
I would challenge you to think about one thing though, because obviously, it is never too late to change course. Did you leave because of the short-term stress and mandates or do you really not see a place for you in any aspect of the nursing world? The reason I ask is I rarely hear someone doing so well and speaking so highly of something feel completely that way. I am a professor now and went to many years of school, including doing a Ph.D. with a 5-week old baby while my husband was finishing his residency to be a doctor. I understand academic stress firsthand. Many students express the extreme pressure they are under as the reason for many decisions they make to me as a professor. I too had many thoughts of throwing in the towel in the moment of extreme stress, so I will never discount that stress - I definitely felt it. For some people, that may mean taking a break or moving away from that stress for their mental health. However, stress is half an unavoidable short-term stress in a school environment and half mentality. For example, something that seemed like extreme stress during the pandemic may no longer be an issue since those mandates you speak of don't often exist anymore and you are many years older and more mature, so your mentality has changed. Just wanted to throw that out there as food for thought. There are also many avenues to nursing jobs- hospitals being only one of many. Having a shortage of nurses is to the nurse's advantage because it allows for many different job opportunities with more negotiating power.
I'll leave you with this final thought, I was the only woman in my family to go to college and sometimes I felt like no one understood the stress I felt. I thought maybe life would be easier if I avoided it. However, on the other side, I am very grateful I continued for myself and for my family. Meeting people who were more similar to my situation than my family maybe was, helped me to learn to cope and figure it out. They say the days are long but the years are short. This is soooo true. Good luck with whatever you choose. But just know you don't have to give up one thing - like a family of your own - to complete something like nursing school. Thank you for your honesty.

You can tell I don’t understand it I had to, and that’s all I was going to have. And that was good enough I could do great things and a lot of things we’re just too I feel if you have lots and lots of children you’re spread thin and it’s not so much quantity or quality at that point you’re just so thin
