Back in '83, there WERE a lot of band with a woman raving in front and background weirdness (think Lydia Lunch). They didn't get on the radio. What Sonic Youth was doing was different from the outset, but I think it took a while for the form to develop. I'm glad Kim starting playing bass!
they made a tour with Nirvana, Hole, Mudhoney, BlackFrancis, Dinosaur Jr, The Ramones, and more in the 90's Thurston, Kim, Lee, JMascis, Courtney, Kurt, Dave and Mark Arm were good friends until today. You should watch 1991 The Year That Punk Broke. Amazing documentary
I can understand why a lot of people wont get on with it... but I think a lot of people live in a pretty small world - i love it and know the same principle went into this as did sugar kane or something else. you've really got to listen - when you get it this kind of music inhibits you like no other can come close to touching.
there is a company called south tree (or something like that) that can convert it inot a dvd for 16 bucks if you send it to them. it also looks like there is other ways but way more money.. damn some of the machines cost like 300 dollars.
@Sound4Sense There are plenty that do, and there always will be, they're just not as popular. Like most things, you have to dig deeper to find the good stuff!
me and grandma used to listen to this. ah memories.
wait really…
You must’ve had a cool grandma
I really like the early footage of this legendary band. Wish there was more of it.
freakin awesome. 1983 is the best year of them
>1986
@@NESman-dm3wd um no. They weren't even that well known then.
@@Luis-ov8equmm they were on college rock stations
Yeah they weren't even well known then, cuz that's what determines how great they were at any given time

she was playing bass from the very beginning. she just wasn't on this song
I loved the pre Daydream albums. This is great!
This feels like historic footage from like the 1930s or some shit
The sepia tone definitely gives it that feel. Like old Wild West ‘wanted’ posters 😊
i'm realy starting to like their older songs, last week when i saw them they started with the burning spear,it was so great!!
This version is on Confusion is Sex. There is a "rap" version on the Cicconne Youth album.

I know they've done things with Lydia Lunch before and SY has been influenced by Lydia Lunch and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks before.

2021 - Year 2 of COVID and the Lockdowns. Time to reflect
Haha, those people in the crowd didn't know what hit 'em...
@Sound4Sense There are plenty that do, and there always will be, they're just not as popular. Like most things, you have to dig deeper to find the good stuff!
I didn't know the band was this old wow!!!!!!!
Holy shit!
I consider the term "Awful" a great compliment. When you look at what "Good" mainstream music was then, and is now, to sound like this is refreshing.
you should hear the ciccone version its even hip hop-pier.
She kinda sounds like a war protester or something.
*Hugs*...
you might have to buy a special vcr converter thing that has a usb cable drive. wait im going to try and find one online right now! haha
OMG
great
they grunge¡¡¡¡¡ o my god¡¡¡¡ i love sonic youth

Wow! Sonic Youth à Poitiers?! Incredible since it's a small boring town in the french country.
Not at this time...
They played w/ orchestre rouge and killing joke....
If this is really 1983 they were way!!! Ahead of their time fashionably and musically
No way that’s 83
