I love pattypan squash and grow in my summer garden. This is a much needed, and great video which thoroughly explains how to freeze it to eat later. Thank you, Country Living, for this helpful how-to video.
I just watched your video. Your explanation was by far the most informative. First timer harvesting Zucchinis and I grew some enormous ones! Perfect timing and enjoyed your video! Thank you 🌱🥒✨🎶
Praying for your medical treatments . Enjoy life while you can and treasure every moment . We enjoy watching both of you and of course the yummy recipes. Have a wonderful week . 🙏🇺🇸
Thanks for the info on how to freeze squash!!! Hopefully we’ll get to freeze some this year from the garden 🌱 too!!!! Thanks for showing two ways!! Your squash look really good by the way!!!
Thank you for the info. I have come into an abundance of lots of different squash fresh out of ground. I saw you second. You did a quick great job. Taught this 45 yr old today!
Thank you Cal, for your informative video on freezing squash. Would that work for butternut squash? Im wanting to freeze some, but never have done butternut squash. . So it probably, would be done, about the same way, I imagine it would, just bigger pieces maybe. I will give it a try, I freeze zucchini squash , for zucchini Blueberry Bread , and it is so yummy !, I usually make as many loaves as I can, becuase my grown kids & grandkids love it. I enjoy all of your videos, & I love Maries reciepes, thanks both of you, have a good rest of your week,, & God bless
Hey Victoria, I think you are right about that. I've never grown any butternut squash, but I might try it next year. Have a great week... Calvin and Marie
Thanks for watching and joining. We appreciate you. We have been on a break this week but will be making new videos next week. Have a fantastic evening, Calvin and Marie
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this wonderfully informative video! You have helped so many people, especially this time of year, when we have summer squash and zucchini coming out of our ears!!
Thanks very much. Marie also has a great recipe for making squash casserole that we're going to share again on Tuesday. We didn't get to have a garden this year because of my health issues but I'm looking forward to next year. Have a Blessed Sunday, Calvin and Marie
Thanks Ryan, This year Marie wanted enough squash to freeze for this fall. Your greenhouse is looking great. I loved the strings you were using to tie up the tomatoes. Have a great weekend... Calvin
Wonderful explanation. Going to try it out today! Thank you for sharing your pearls of wisdom with the world! Remind me so much of my Uncle Earl...had to subscribe! God bless you!
Good video and tips! Now if I could just get some squash! Lol, they flowered then all the rain knocked the flowers off so we’ll see. I usually blanch but we never have squash long enough to go bad with a hungry family of four, two teenagers, lol we just keep it in the fridge and use it up. I wish I had enough I needed to freeze it. Heck I just wish I had some for dinner at this point, lol.
Yes they are great. I hate the cheaper bags that refuse to close. Thanks very much for watching, you've been busy watching some of our older videos. We appreciate it. Happy New Year, Calvin and Marie
can i just chop it in chunks and saute with some oil for 2 or 3 minutes and prepare for freezing it? will it work for other vagatables also? Thanks in advance.
It is best to freeze them in individual slices first before you bag them up. If you want to you can batter them before freezing and they will be easier to fry up.
When I froze my zucchini right out of my garden last year and when I went to defrost it my zucchini was soggy. This year I’m trying blanching first. But I noticed if I boiled them any longer than a minute they were already going transparent. I really hope I didn’t mess it up
When we freeze squash we mostly plan on using it for casseroles and soups because it is soft and mushy after it thaws out. If you freeze the individual slices to cook I recommend that you put them in the saute pan while they are still frozen. This works good for us. Our squash in our garden didn't produce a lot this year so we didn't get to freeze any this year. Have a great week, Calvin and Marie
I know this is an older vid but I can't find a good answer. What's the point of blanching first? We have TONS of zucchini and just purchased a vacuum sealer. Is it necessary to blanch to save it for a year?
Thanks for watching. You can freeze with out blanching but the vegetables will not last for a long period. If you want your frozen vegetables to last for one year, then I recommend that you blanch them before freezing. I know that it is a lot of extra work. Have a great week, Calvin and Marie
@@SouthernCountryLiving thanks Calvin and Marie! I just happened to find an article from Missouri State Uni that explained what I was looking for too. I couldn't wrap my engineer's brain around enzymes that break down and discolor the vegetables continuing to work when frozen. But apparently, even when frozen, the enzymes are still at work! Blanching stops them for good. Thank you for the video and the response. Here's to heating up the kitchen! Lol
Thanks for watching. We just put the squash in the refrigerator and let it thaw before cooking. We mostly use frozen squash for casseroles. We don't fry a lot of squash. If you plan on frying your frozen squash then you need to batter it and freeze it on a tray before putting it in your freezer bag to prevent it from all sticking together. If you prepare your squash like this then you can start frying it straight out of the freezer with out thawing. That is why we mostly make casseroles out of our frozen squash. Have a great week, Calvin and Marie
I just watched a video where the young woman cut them to bite size pieces and then added water to her freezer bag and froze. I have no idea how to preserve squash and have 4 plants I’ve pollinated and their coming in now. I need to study up on how to preserve them. I love squash. Mines yellow squash. I did one bag like she said and try her way. Then I’ll do yours when the next one comes in. I’m learning…..
It is not necessary to add water to the squash but it won't hurt anything either. Yellow squash makes the best squash casserole. Check out our video for squash casserole: th-cam.com/video/6vvR0Ttu-ek/w-d-xo.html Calvin and Marie
Out of all the videos, yours was most informative. Now I know what method to use for the type of meal. 👍🏼

Is it ok to add salt before freezing? Or any seasoning? Thanks in advance. Have a blessed day. 😊
We don't add salt to ours but I don't see where it would be a problem.

We got that slicer from Walmart several years ago but I think that they still sell them.
