This message needs to be broadcast to all parents because of its duality. Meaning, this isn't about guiding your children down a path of learning, it's also a guide to good parenting.
I homeschooled my 2 daughters through fourth grade, until I lost family support because of their fears that they weren’t getting enough socialization. We (I) frequently arranged ‘field days’/outings with other families in the area who also homeschooled. My older daughter, now 35, achieved a perfect score on her ACT’s, and was offered a full scholarship to Yale! Unfortunately/ fortunately, she turned it down in favor of going to a state university, and obtained a degree in information technology. She still frequently approaches me with scientific facts, and newly discovered evidence of forgotten cultures and civilizations, animals, etc. I love it! ❤
I love the idea of teaching my child to be a life long learner as well as introducing self help books at an early age. Thank you so much for these insights.
I love this. May I add beyond academics; shaping children's connections to the earth and the natural world creates a sense of responsibility for wildlife and the environment I think teaching children about nurturing love and care for pets and other animals is crucial. Through engaging with animals they learn empathy compassion and respect. It helps children to understand their own impact on wild animals and domestic. God's peace. When a child throws a plastic straw on the ground they know that they will be impacting an animal somewhere.
Jim, this video is fantastic as usual, like most of your other contents. In addition to what you summarized in the video, I would like to see the parents taking their kids to award ceremonies as often as possible. They will get the hang of admiration, accolades, and adoration on a big stage being inspired by the scenes over there. They will start visualizing in their mind to be there one day!! That I believe is a part of education to socialize. Anybody with me, folks?
Thank you so much. I agree that life skills should be taught to children early, so that it naturally becomes part of their lifestyle when they become more independent as. adults
I homeschooled my 3 now grown children with this exact emphasis (plus time in/valuing nature) and they have all turned out successful academically, professionally, as citizens, and in their relationships. They are awesome people (not just my opinion :)) who are wonderful to be around. I see the time, attention, and effort of parenting/educating as a very worthwhile investment!
For me, modelling the lifelong learning muscle is so key - the mirror neurons are so important - while my kids don't like reading, the more they see their parents with a book, the better chance they will pick one up - and it's a better way for me to handle the frustration [rather than berating them for not being interested in reading]. I've seen a meme somewhere depicting a kid in bed under a duvet with a torch reading a book - the kid thinks they've one-upped the parents, and the parent is walking out of the bedroom with a massive smile on their face cos the kid is secretly reading - love this!!!
Hi Jim, I recently stumbled upon a book called "Super Life Skills for 9 Year Olds" by Clara Bennett, and I’m so glad I did! It’s been an invaluable resource for me as I navigate raising tweens. I just wanted to share how much it’s helped me, and I think it could be great for others too.
Thank you, every tips and advice is worth gold for me. Have three kids myself in school so I really want to implement the core values you talked about. 🤓👌
@hereiswisdom I wish I could remember them all they get at least one book from me for their birthday, Xmas, Easter, I just look at the kids' books and read them to know if they would help them or not.
Two questions: 1) where can I get your t-shirts? I like the message and it would be a great easy Impuls in suggestive passive Absorption Mode at school for mindset changing for me as teacher wearing them @school. 2. I'm teacher and I'm intrigued to book the students course you are advertising in that Clip. Kind of taking part in it from the perspective of an student in order to implement the tools and knowledge in my own lesson planning... - is that course useful for that? Greatings from Germany

Thete was no place to put the cose in.
Monkey see, monkey do. If I bathe in social doom scrolling & movie marathons my kids will waste their time on the same things.
