      I guess you didn't take away anything from Alex's thought-provoking words in this video... _"...Why couldn't Spider-Man be black?"_
      Mixing up the status quo in comic book characters lately is a way to fix a problem; that being that pop-culture does not have enough diversity.
      Sure, "create new characters" is one solution, but it's not a realistic fix. New characters are not guaranteed popularity. it takes time and money to develop a new character into something that will be accessible and well-received. People will prefer to invest on pop-culture icons like Superman and Batman than on a nobody character.
      Honestly, would it really bother you that much if a comic book series depicted Batman as Indian and Robin as female?

      Omni Viewer why is this better

    • @omniviewer2115
      @omniviewer2115 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It's better - unlike what is implied elsewhere in this thread - because it is not divisive. So much of the press surrounding the movie was designed to aggressively divide, but this feels like insight meant to unite. Black Panther isn't just for black people anymore than Spider-Man is just for white people. Rather, superheroes are meant to be for everyone.

    • @omniviewer2115

    • @sjw4life546
      @sjw4life546 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Nobody in the press said that black panther was just for black people. The only people who tried to "aggressively divide" was the white people on twitter who lied about being beat up by black people for going to see black panther. If pointing out the fact that Black Panther was the first black led superhero film with a majority black cast is considered divisive than oh well..

    • @omniviewer2115
      @omniviewer2115 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      This is the last thing I'm going to say.
      I said I like this video because it has a unifying message, which was sorely lacking in all of the press surrounding the film.
      The people who responded are the ones who assumed I was speaking against the people on their side, thus responding with vague, ad hominem statements and falsehoods further designed to divide.
      In summary, I can't even say we should all get along with being passive-aggressively accused of bigotry, and the irony on display here is where it happened. This is what the world has come to.
      I leave this discussion not because I have no rebuttals, but because I meant what I said about not being divisive. Believe me a coward if you want, but that is my honest reason.
      Good day to you all.

    I agree that Black Panther is a terrific character. But if Spider Man can be black (and yes of course I know about Miles Morales, and he's not a bad character), then can Black Panther be East Asian? :\ I think the race and gender bending of recent years among Marvel Comics mainstays has been putting politics and social progress ahead of telling a great story. And it's sad. This isn't how you fix racism and sexism in the real world. That's how you alienate your audience with smarmy self-righteousness. If you think there should be more representation, make more great black characters like BP, like Bishop, like Storm, like Falcon, like Blade, like Sunspot, like Power Man (Luke Cage), etc. etc. etc., or use the ones you already have to make terrific stories.

    • @HetLedie

      Dan D I believe that Marvel's rush to bring diversity has caused them to lose a number of their Good original characters if they could have the original characters alongside their new more racially diverse counterparts living in the same universe then a lot of the haters would probably come back to read both comic book lines and to answer your question black panther cannot be anything but black because he is Black Panther and he is African, and it would not make sense for an East Asian man to be ruling an African nation like Wakanda without Wakandan Royal Blood. Miles Morales isnt race bending because hes a different character. Miles Morales is Spiderman but not Peter Parker. Also Spiderman isn't a character tied to say "whiteness". Peter Parker is supposed to be a everyday American. Being white isnt a main part of the character. Its different for a character like Black Panther as a large part of the story is him being and African Prince as well as one of the first black heroes. On the other hand, Nick Fury, Lex Luthor, and some other characters have gone back and forth from white to black multiple times because their ethnicity isnt a big part of the character. Rhodey could be white and the basis of the character could stay the same. That doesn't really go for Black Panther.

    • @HetLedie
      @HetLedie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3
