  • From Tiffany to Gucci, Van Cleef & Arpels to Cartier, counterfeiting is becoming a plague but if you are experience in jewelry it's pretty easy to spot a fake.

    A lot of the younger generation are not educated on counterfeit goods. No one is selling real Chanel or Gucci or Cartier for 'rock bottom' prices. The guy said he bought a Mystery Box full of items. He probably paid 10x more for that box of stuff than it was worth. A lot of companies overseas are openly selling knockoffs and making millions of dollars

    • @MrJdsenior
      @MrJdsenior 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not just knockoffs. Some sell the REAL merchandise, made on the real lines, but stuff intended to be removed, or in some cases sold as seconds. Almost all clothing is made overseas, by China, Mexico, etc., etc. and likely some of the oversight isn't exactly military grade, like with classified stuff. All you probably need is someone with a bit of intelligence, light morals, and heavy greed and shazam!
      Ebay has basically ended selling even cheap 'designer' crap like Coach handbags. They called us out on one we know was legit but didn't have the receipt for, so we donated it and have never looked at another one to resell. In virtually all cases it is easy to tell the difference, and we spent the time/ due diligence to learn about them, but ebay doesn't care. Then they whine because nobody is selling that crap. That part is actually humorous. Except for high end stuff clothes are not remotely worth selling any more. We have listed about zero new clothes items in the last few years.

      @@MrJdsenior Interesting, normally it's the company that gets involved, not Ebay. Ebay usually steps aside on VERO claims so they can't get sued.
      Sorry to hear clothing is bad for you. I sell only in the clothing and it has been life changing for me, but I don't touch those high brands. I'm cool with taking a 2-3 dollar buy and turning it into a 15-30 dollar profit 10-20 times a day. ASP hovers just over 25 bucks and that's just great for me. Business is growing very quickly with that model.

      Tbh don't think most care.. as long as it looks ok.. it's all about the trade name brand vs what used to be quality.. why the counterfeit market used to be about faking to get the high prices.. Now it's counterfeit to sell low and "look" the part.. least with fashion items

    • @candicecart9786
      @candicecart9786 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Pretty sure they knew it was counterfeit goods - hence they’re in a pawn shop 🤷🏼‍♀️ Some places they have laws that pawn shop owners have to confiscate illegal (aka counterfeit) goods... but the USA doesn’t really have laws protecting brands (yes counterfeit goods are illegal and customs will destroy them if they detect them), but they don’t have laws in every state about counterfeit goods or brand protection laws like Europe where if you’re wearing the counterfeit items (or carrying them), you can get fined thousands per counterfeit item (so basically the fines are the same amount or higher than if you had just purchased the real thing 🤣)- it’s bc they have a lot of high end brands there and they are generally made in country (eg france, Italy)... and since the counterfeits are made in China, many high end shops don’t want Asians in their shops as they could be essentially Chinese spies trying to get images of the latest items 🤷🏼‍♀️ Also the craftsmen don’t want Asians in their shops either for counterfeiting reasons (and over there they just label all Asians as “Chinese”)- it’s really unfortunate for those who are traveling as legit travelers and want to see local skills and such

    developed a keen sense for people. Each seller is a different situation and I see your genuine empathy for them factored into you purchases. In the end your honesty in valuing their items is why they
    come to your shop. You reminding them that you are a business that need to make a profit. I believe most customers understand that, but they sometimes have a challenge in accepting that fact. For me, I learn something new about people from each of your videos. On a different note, can you make a comment on how Adrian's world sailing adventure is going. There’s always someone out to make money at the misfortune of the buyer/seller. I took some of my inherited gold jewellery to exchange for cash a while back, being allergic to gold I saw no point in keeping it. One item, a solid engraved bangle which I was fairly sure was 21ct gold from the Middle East, the retailer refused to accept it was solid gold and only offered me a ‘generous offer’ of £12.
    I know for a fact that a lot of antique gold from the Middle East does not always have a hallmark. I refused his offer but sold the rest for around £350. I went to another jeweller with my late Aunt’s bangle. He pondered over it for quite a while and offered to research into it. He came back to me a few days later offering me a staggering £1,250.00 saying he already had a buyer for it lined up. I’m glad I passed on my slightly cheaper offer!!

I actually kept quite a few bits, but the gold items weren’t worth me keeping as both my daughter and I are allergic to gold. Hypebeasts are well known to know basically nothing about fashion yet have a total obsession with buying whatever is "cool" or popular at the time. He brought it in probably because in his mind it was only a couple hundred bucks worth otherwise why would he have gotten it in a 50$ grab bag from grailed? He also clearly knows nothing about fashion because even though grailed itself is a reliable website anyone who knows anything knows that 100% of the grab bags are bs. That smile is because he realized how much the real deal is really worth and it blew his mind. Dont be such a biased, judgmental and rude/mean person. They're kids who dont know shit about shit and have a kid's mentality, so judging them by your standards and your mentality is just stupid.

    Pete I think it’s shows a lot about how good of a person you are when you give people the benefit of the doubt when bringing in counterfeit jewelry. Many people would instantly assume they knew what they were doing. At the end of the day they’re kids who make bad decisions and I think it goes much further what you did than trying to call them out. In any case, maybe they did think it was legit I’m not sure how after paying $50 but still. Happy thanksgiving.

      what do you mean "in any case"? thats not even accurate... in one case, they might be scammers. in the other case, maybe they didnt know it was fake. its not "any case" at all, there's a case for 2 distinctly different possibilities. in any case, you dont know what "in any case" even means. in any case, peter did not buy the fake jewelry.

      The kid had a very believable reply to Pete asking him where he got the bracelet!
      Everyone from Goodwill to Thred up sell mystery boxes of jewelry online! You get 5lbs of random jewelry in a box, some of it might be broken, most of its costume jewelry, and every once in awhile someone will get a piece of gold or silver jewelry in a mystery box!
      If the kid said he got it from a guy selling jewelry on a street corner, I might be more suspicious, but jewelry mystery boxes online is a pretty legit answer to where he got it from!

    My grandfather passed a few years ago and we found his camera he had in a shoe box with about 50 photos taken with it during his time in the Navy in WW2. The camera looks very similar to the one at 9:30, but IDK if it's the same brand. Anyways, it was really cool seeing pictures of him when he was stationed at Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands in charge of manning the airstrip refueling planes like the B-17 and B-24 for their next mission. He said his favorite moment on that island was when a P-38 Lightning came in to be refueled. He'd never seen one in person before and thought that was the coolest plane he ever saw. RIP Grandpa.
