There are many medieval structures left, the reason why you don't know much about it is because not much research is being done in Somali regions to begin with due to the civil war and insecurity. The "looting culture" described is definitely exaggerated. You can find countless virtually untouched historical sites in Somalia and other surrounding Somali regions if they're actively being looked for, in-fact many locals are even aware of them.
@@prism0_0 I've hard a lot of anecdotal evidence (from family and friends there) that the vast majority of medieval sites situated near populated areas have been damaged/looted during the civil war. Somali towns are very old and have been inhabited for centuries, there aren't too many big sites in the middle of nowhere. I agree that there is a lot left (especially underground) but some of the most impressive stuff has been destroyed. Hopefully as the war dies down we can reconstruct what we've lost - as you've said we have a lot of evidence left behind.

That is the most depressing thing I've ever heard. I was wondering why there weren't many medieval structures left, so there was a culture of seeing remnants of older eras as disposable when big things happened to somalis?
There are many medieval structures left, the reason why you don't know much about it is because not much research is being done in Somali regions to begin with due to the civil war and insecurity. The "looting culture" described is definitely exaggerated. You can find countless virtually untouched historical sites in Somalia and other surrounding Somali regions if they're actively being looked for, in-fact many locals are even aware of them.
@@prism0_0 I've hard a lot of anecdotal evidence (from family and friends there) that the vast majority of medieval sites situated near populated areas have been damaged/looted during the civil war. Somali towns are very old and have been inhabited for centuries, there aren't too many big sites in the middle of nowhere.
I agree that there is a lot left (especially underground) but some of the most impressive stuff has been destroyed.
Hopefully as the war dies down we can reconstruct what we've lost - as you've said we have a lot of evidence left behind.

Wow she said "My culture is Islamic and I don't know anything about traditional stuff" but she does not look like a muslim unfortunately. This is desperate hard sell of this break away region in the North West Somalia because camel transportation, so-called holy tombs and traditional huts are found every part of Somalia, what is special here? Somalia is one nation called Somalia, go and investigate yourself. Is academic talent wasted or nowadays lots of people with bachelor's degrees or masters are presenting themselves as academics.
Does this include all races and countries, or just hers?
