Glad I could be there for the livestream, great to see your review!
I think it might make sense to wait for the 2nd year iteration of this new chassis in 2025. It feels like it's a new step forward, but not tweaked to max out performance quite yet. Can you comment on the screen wobble on this new G14 and especially the new larger G16 when typing, and when using the wsad keys gaming. I noticed significant screen wobble and shaking on Notebookcheck review of the new 2024 G16.
Very interesting question for me too
Jarrod's tech review also mentioned wobble on even g14
The bigger upgrade for the 2025 G14 is likely to be Next Gen GPUs in 2025 (RTX 5000 series), if I were to guess.
And the other part of the question?
that will be new chassis from asus. They never use the same chassis every iterations.
That fan just won't stop
Gizmo you have the best and most comprehensive reviews out there, brother. THANK YOU for your hard work and dedication - this is amazing stuff!
5:40 greatest detail lol 😂
😂
@GizmoSlipTech Since you seem to have larger hands, is it comfortable using the G14? Usually the edge of laptops dig into my palm and was thinking of picking up the G16 instead. Thanks in advance.
May i know your perspective? I'm gonna change laptop to either razer blade 14 2022 or g14 2024 for semi gaming, designing and rendering. Price is pretty much the same now at my place. Or is it better to go for g14 2023?
great review, though the 4070 laptops seem to be really underwhelming, only reason to get the 4070 version of this model
is for the 32gb ram or if its on sale.
yeah at 80 watt tdp the 4070 and 4060 not gonna be that much different performance wise, kinda shitty of asus making the ram soldered, otherwise the 4060 wouldve been perfect
Nice to see shorter reviews, going from like 75 min to 20 is pretty cool.
Just ordered mine! Coming from an 8 year old Samsung Notebook Spin 7, this upgrade will feel monumental
Please do the 2024 G16 next!
Hey dude! What did you do for the display/colour calibration?
I am looking for a gaming Notebook with an amazing Screen. Size, Speakers etc not matter. What you recommend?
Legion Slim 5 with the 14.5" 120hz OLED 4060 32gb is only 1256 configured on their website right now compared to this at 2k with a 4070 and 32gb or 1600 with a 4060 and 16gb of ram
I think the pinnacle of best laptops next year is going to have to be the Alienware M18R3 you’ll probably still get the premium all around package in a large laptop from the Alienware M18R2 mechanical keyboard to 4 NVME slots to the best port selection on a laptop, build quality and the screen having Nvidia g-sync, advanced optimus and a mux switch all it needs next year is a brighter screen IPS or OLED possibly higher refresh rate panel and a 4k resolution would be nice with thunderbolt 5 support the icing on the cake for me.
screens are terrible every year from dell
Yep, Alienware upgrades are usually 2yrs behind competitors and at a premium price.
Great review!
Hi I just found your channel recently I’ve been watching most of your videos and getting more knowledge from them thank you! ! I have a game recommendation for a benchmark test maybe you have heard this one before but Ark Ascended because it’s just such a hard game to run
I’ll check it out
Never thought I was going to own the last laptop of it's design when I bought it(g16 2023)
So is the 2023 4060/4070 getting better fps? Cooler temperatures?
would love to see what the opinions is on the G16 comparatively.
Does this finally have USB-C PASS THROUGH Charging? The older G14's only charge the battery, can't power the laptop directly via USB-C.
Waiting for a review on the main competitor - Omen transcend 14 with 4070!!!
Hi, Gizmo. Any idea why my ASUS ROG STRIX SCAR 17 Ryzen 9 7945HX RTX 4090 goes to restart after applying AMD Curve Optimiser? And after restart settings are back to 0
Hoping for a big discount on this one and the transcendent in the next 2-3 months. Always liked the idea of having a powerfull laptop
That's what I'm thinking asus especially on best buy in the USA has great deals on these. Just wait till it's on sale to buy it.
Updated 2024 Undervolting and overclocking guide pls, consider both the 4060 and 4070 version
Looks pretty nice, dont like the strip at the back for the looks personally.
Needs more animation options imo
wish it had a static option@@GizmoSlipTech
Can you turn the strip light off?
Yes@@Gunner.TV.
Would you (guys) recommend this laptop for 720p 30/60fps AAA gaming (especially the next monster hunter ( wilds)? )
I'm not planning to pick up a laptop soon but when the time comes it's probably in sale.
The 4060 version, would be great for 1080p, forget 720, i would personally go with the 4070 version, for the 32 gigs of ram
I have not tested Monster Hunter, but since this handles God of War quite well, I would assume this laptop would be great for Monster Hunter too.
Unless extreme portability is a must, look into 16" laptops. Also, check out the Strix line up if you haven't already. My G18 4080 i9-13980 Strix never over heats and idles at 31 celcius which is unprecedented by laptop standards. 14" gaming laptops are infamous for overheating.
Can you do another video where you optimize the settings by undervolting the gpu and cpu. Like you did with the 2023 version. I think nowadays computer's need optimization before using
If you are a gamer who has wanted this for many years, then I would be surprised if this is on any shortlist. For me, this is aimed at creators, and those wanting FPS gaming will go for last year's model or another laptop.
Should i get asus rog strix 4080 2024(in japan they have strix 4080 model) or lenovo legion pro 7i gen 9 4080 model.. Both have i9-14900H cpu.. Please help me i am really confused which is better and stuck for almost 1 month to chose
Both are good options. I’d buy whichever you like the looks of more or whichever is cheaper. The Scar series has the miniled, which is the main advantage.
I saw on other reviews there is a high pitch fan sound, anyone have anything to say about that?
Go watch my fan noise test in the livestream. Maybe a little whistly, but overall, pretty usual fan noise sound to me. Might vary from fan to fan a bit.
thanks for your review it was very helpful. Would you recommend 2023 g14 rtx 4060 for 999usd or 2024 g14 rtx 4060 (16 gb ram soldered) for 1599usd
2023 if money is tight, otherwise, I’d get the newer model as it is a better all around laptop
Very helpful info, I'm getting one to replace my m1 macbook air 8gb. I hope I like it...screen wobble is the only thing that really concerns me
Have u bought this laptop yet?….how is the wobble?
I did buy it but i ended up returning, but not for the wobble, it was a really stupid reason. The wobble wasn't great but it was not noticeable in day to day use for me. The stupid reason was I use airpods and there was a very slight delay, about 200ms and it bothered me so much for videos. Macs sync the video to the bluetooth delay so there is literally no delay when watching videos. The g14 was a FANTASTIC laptop however, if it werent for the airpods delay, I would have kept it and adored it. Feel free to ask anything else about it.
Highly considering picking up this lapto. Only major concern is the screen wobble. How bad is it when typing / moving it around?
I have one. It's not that noticeable unless you're someone that presses the keys very hard. My local Best Buy had one on display and that one wasn't bad either
@@diorsawaajdoes it get too hot under pressure? I want to use it for 3d modelling and I am afraid
@@aisu5969 CPU temps for me hover around 70C-85C when sitting on a flat surface, just depends on what kind of workload I'm doing. AutoCAD runs at about 77C-80C for me.
Armoury Crate allows you to custom tune a lot of different things like what your target temps are and set the fan speed when the laptop reaches certain temps.
@@aisu5969 I think you'll be fine, if it begins to climb past 85C, consider using a cooling pad.
I forgot to mention, I have the 16 GB RAM with the RTX 4060
@@diorsawaaj thank you so much for replying! I am planning to buy one with 16 gb ram and RTX 4060 too. I am very unsure about this one but using a cooling pad makes sense. I will use it for at least 6 years or so that’s why I’m thinking hard between my options. Are you satisfied with this laptop in general? especially if you tried 3d or graphic design with it?
I bought the hp transcend 14 with max specs . Hopefully I made the right choice ! Strange there's no reviews out considering mine is on the post for tomorrow
This right here! Quite a few reviews already out for the Asus G14 but none (apart from sponsored reviews) for the HP! So strange.
@@blingsley yeah so strange I could not for the life of me find a single independent review on YT or on the web. There can't still be an embargo for a product in the wild. All I was able to find was a Reddit post with a guy who got one early.
@@umarsaddiq7195 we must be searching for the exact same thing as I found that Reddit post too 😅 I’m hoping we get to see some reviews out early next week.
@@blingsley did you purchase it too ? I got it from Currys here in the UK
I do not have a contact for HP to send me one of those. Might have to buy one myself if I want to review it
This or a 2024 Blade 14 4070 for the same price?
CPU wattage too low when gaming. It's going to be a real issue having only 12W for the CPU in some modern games.
That's a mistake, and since temps are so low (going by Jarrod's review I just watched), they could have allowed 25W on CPU for crying out loud.
CPU closer to 80w when GPU not loaded, so for CPU only workloads it's a powerful little thing.
Please review in detail lenovo loq i5 13450hx /Ryzen 8845hs+ Rtx 4060 , 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Paying for a mobile 4070 that performs about as well as a higher-wattage mobile 4060 (even in other 14in) is painful
nobody beats gizmo in reviews , when does the g16 review go live
Asus said they are sending next week
@@GizmoSlipTech 😍
Can you test it with an Android game emulator? any games will do. Test how many instances it can open.
When are you bringing the g16 2024 plz 😢
there is a new good cooling pad on the market is name is LLANO 2024 (100$)..maybe if you want you can do a comparison vs ies gt 500....this llano 2024 seems better than ies... big up man
2nd best speaker in Windows laptops (after RB18)? Wait, what happened to Alienware X16 6-speaker system? A lot of TH-camrs say that X16 is the best speaker in Windows laptops. Have they not listened to any RB18 due to the price?
I haven’t heard that one yet
Can you look at the ibuypower gameing desktop slate5mr 216i?
Surprise! The same thing happens to Zephyrus G16 compared to 2023 model.
I know Zephyrus 2024 are more premium, but the price are not justified.
Is this, or any other of your videos on this laptop, paid for/sponsored by ASUS?
Absolutely not. If it was, they would never let me review and recommend competitor laptops like me recommending the MSI Stealth 14.
I always very prominently disclose sponsorships when I do take them, and I never take any sponsorship that prevents me from being honest about all the pros and cons. I have turned away many sponsorships that wanted control me and my content.
@@GizmoSlipTech *cough* Lenovo
@@eddieneyman4035 I specially had phrasing added to all sponsorship contracts that directly says I can be honest about all of the pros and cons, including my contracts with Lenovo, Best Buy, and others. I do not let anyone prevent me from saying the negatives of the products I review. If the products are good, they should review well without a sponsorship imo. This makes it so only brands highly confident in their product send me stuff for review.
I have turned down sponsorships from several laptops brands and large retail stores that refused to add my abiltiy to be honest and list all pros and cons, this happens on a pretty regular basis. Makes it harder for me to get funding as a creator/reviewer. But I think it will be worth it for me to develop more trust with my audience.
@@GizmoSlipTech What's your opinion about the new Stealth 14 AI Studio A1V (2024)? I have to choose between this new Asus and the new MSI Stealth 14 both with 32 GB RAM, RTX 4070, etc., and since there are no reviews about the latter I don't know what to do. In my opinion, overheating was one issue with the the previous model of MSI Stealth 14 in 2023, but now I have no idea if this has improved
Is the screen matt or glossy?
Glossy
Am i stupid or can someone explain why my 4050 var can do 9k . 12k on 4070 seems really low
It's because they made the 4050 fairly powerful, and they made the 4070 fairly weak for two GPU levels up. Only get the 4070 if the 4070 is on sale enough to only be 10-20% more than the 4060. Same for the 4050 to 4060. Not too big of a gap.
But there is a huge gap between 4070 and 4080/4090. Weird spacing Nvidia did this generation.
what color the one hes holding?
It's white, but it kinda looks like silver because of the lighting
Serious question from an ignorant person with no knowledge of mods in computers. Is it not modifiable even w solder experience or they simply dont create solderable memories?
There is no point in changing the RAM as you cannot buy LPDDR6 in a form you could solder on once you have removed the current RAM.
All Core Ultra machines use soldered RAM, as LPDDR5X is not made in a modular form. It is the fastest with the lowest latency, and those wanting modular RAM will be downgrading the experience for the potential to upgrade sometime in the future despite LPDDR5X being likely to be fast enough for many years.
The light strip is so tacky.
Subjective I can see how some can like it some can think it's meh.
Just want more animation options
Not worth the 4070
those CPU clocks in timespy are a joke (~2.5Ghz) ... i own a laptop with 5800H from ~ 3 years ago, it clocks stable at ~ 4Ghz)...also the 3070 in my laptop is like .... 5% lower performance than this 4070??? that's embarrassing ... I honestly don't understand how this CPU scores higher than my 5800H, but the difference isn't big anyway, ~ maybe 10% or so...man the new generation of laptops are down bad. I guess you just pay for OLED and slim design...but nothing more.
This is such a bad take lmao. Clock speeds aren't e erythimg my friend.
The laptop is GPU bound so CPU doesn’t need to ramp up, but also the overlay may not always show the highest clocked core
@@user-oe6bk5uk4x shut it with your "such a bad take lmao" ... it's not a bad take, it's a good comparison. If you think a 3 years CPU should be ~ 10% slower than the newest version, you're delusional. I know that cache matters and so on, but in the end over the years all CPU manufacterers wanted to achieve one thing: Higher CPU clocks. That's why intel always was king over gaming, because they had higher clocks, especially single-core. is thiat again a "bad take lmao" ? xD
@@GizmoSlipTech I don't really understand wdym by "GPU bound" .Timespy, while it has 2 "graphics tests", it also uses CPU quite heavily because in the end it replicates gaming. It also has a CPU test, that's the boost to 5GHz in your graph I assume, but it doesn't seem to be able to maintain it. I'm sure the scores would be much high if this CPU could clock higher in a both CPU+GPU load. Anyway, great review man ! Hope you didn't think of my coment as "mean" ... in the end, there's progress indeed, increasing performance while having lower clocks and such a slim design, is for sure progress. Not as much as many would like, but still...
Sad Asus is following the Crapple path, soldered components, pathetic!
The price of thin and light is not for the performance focused gamers who want customizable and more upgradable laptops. It’s more for people that are satisfied with “enough” performance and don’t crave max fps on ultra settings, and probably don’t plan on upgrading anything except the SSD
soldered component can still be upgrade, they are faster too
@@GizmoSlipTechyeah I don’t care about upgrading so I have no issue
