I used to walk from spinney Hill Park down to morsey tunnel when I was around 11 with a group of friends. Kids have no sense if danger. We've been through there when it was raining heavily and the water was gushing with no torches🤯.. it is an absolutely great place to adventure to.
Thanks for the video many memories came flooding back to me excuse the pun 😊

My grandparents lived in Unity Avenue and Granny worked at the flour mill (Co-op in those days). Sadly nothing left there now but don't forget Willowbrook Road followed the brook. We lived next to the brook a little further out off Coleman Road in my childhood days (now some 70 years ago). It was a nice little country stream there until they built Rowletts Hill Estate and we began getting floods so now it's a concrete sewer!

Thank you Rod. I know the mill you speak of buddy. I noticed it on the old maps when looking at this.

Recognized the thumbnail picture straight away, had to watch. Walked through there many times, lived in Belgrave as a kid, that was over 50 years ago. Brought back some memories.

My house on Cottesmore rd backed onto willow brook. We used to climb over the yard wall and straight down into the brook. Towards spinney hill park was witches tunnel, near the old bridge road school. Towards abbey park is this tunnel, we knew it as the morsey. You could also go over the top across the railway lines .......or so I'm told, obviously I never did it myself.
We more or less lived in the brook or sparrow park as kids.

Cheers. Yeah not enough kids go out exploring these days. Unfortunately, the XBOX and PlayStation seemingly saw to that! Thanks for watching.

Been a few years since I went in, quite a bit of debris when I went, some strange stuff to. Can’t have been to bad the water though, plenty of fish in there!

I was born and bred Leicester now cross the road off of the Narbrough Road. Obviously is Foss Park and Asda. There is an open culvert that runs at the side of Asda and as you go further across it runs straight across all across the Meridian so maybe worth having a look one day see what you think thank you John it’s just that when we were kids well I was a 70s kid I can remember Asda being built and then all the fields in the woods. They knocked down in the early 80s very early 80s and that’s when a lot of Corvettes and the Oldbrook changed some people call it progress, but I didn’t. Anyway happy days. For me and my brothers. Thanks, John

    • @LeiceExplore
      @LeiceExplore  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you John! Yes, I think I know the culvert you speak of, I went bowling at meridian, and seen a large inlet/outlet there. Maybe I will check that out properly at some point. Thanks for watching.

Great vid as usual, I lived not far from there for a while.
I seem to remember a large woodyard being to the right of the railway on Humberstone rd.
    Walkers crisps on Cobden St.
The Culvert I knew nothing off.

Thank you Richard! This area, after looking at old maps, has changed so, so much, over the last 120 years! And not for the better by the looks of it! But this culvert, is immense, was not expecting that! Cheers.

From spinney to abbey park through the merzy tunnel or over the train tracks right to the thin wall. The goriilla tunnel looks like its covered with all bushes.

The willow brook used to run past the back of our house where I lived as a kid. Larch Street I think it was called ? Anyway, locally that tunnel was known as the moresey. Not sure on the spelling - more sea we would pronounce it.
Anyway, we would use the brook as a more interesting route to spinney hill park in one direction and abbey park in the other.
Fab to see this ☺️ So many memories. And also other things involving a girl called Louise that I won’t mention here.
This was late 70s early 80s.
