    You are so different from many "self-help" people. You tell it like it is. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Lord knows I'm struggling with trying to succeed in my life. I am hanging on a string trying to finish college at this point and I don't know what the hell I am gonna do after I graduate. I am what you call an older college student bc I took a break then returned..although I am still in my 20s...just late 20s. I just want to make a lot of money, be comfortable, travel and do what I love (which is ironically, something I am not completely sure about yet). Freedom is something I have not tasted since I was younger due to financial issues and I crave it sooooo badly! Just went through a split and now moving back to my home I could friggin cry at this point but I'm holding on.

    Tai, I used to see your ads on TH-cam as I was watching videos from Tony Robbins, Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy, Jack Canfield, Les Brown, Zig Ziglar, etc., and I always thought that you came off as a self-important douchebag. I've now subscribed to your channel and added you to my watch list. You touched on ignorance during this video, and I have to say it struck a chord. You are a very straightforward and insightful person. I am remorseful for having judged you so harshly. Thanks for what you do. I now very much enjoy watching your videos. Take care always.

      Tell me o wise one what sets people apart from the crowd in your opinion?

    • @SWIFTzTrigger
      @SWIFTzTrigger 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That doesn't make any sense. The norm or "average" would shift accordingly if behaviour radically changed and then what would be considered average now would be different and radical at that point. Average is average for a reason, its comfortable enough.
      Also we are social animals and being average is actually an advantage.

    • @thinkyourreality1087
      @thinkyourreality1087 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      SWIFTzTrigger I think he's talking with the assumption that most people won't set themselves apart. Most people are average and choose consciously or otherwise to remain that way. He's talking to people who truly don't want to be average and are willing to put in the work not to be so, which is a very small percentage of people. It may not seem like it, but it is. So if that small percentage of people make a change, even a radical one, then norms would still be norms.

    1. What resonated most with you form this video? : The fact that we should challenge all our beliefs. The castle of our beliefs being attacked by friends or enemies - is a pretty cool concept.
    2. What is an action point that you can take from this video? : When I read books and get insight, I will write down 1 or 2 actions, things to do differently, based on what I learned.
    3. What is a conviction that you need to challenge? : The unfairness concept you mentioned. I should stop expecting fairness from the world and acknowledge my hypocrisy in that I only see unfairness in relationship to me or my immediate beliefs/thoughts.

    Your presentation regarding Nietzsche was a great choice. Convictions and how we relate and even live by in our minds and through out life need be addressed and challenged. Refinement of even our deepest truths is essential to the expansion of our minds and how we perceive life. " To speak of oneself not at all is a refined form of hypocrisy" -Fredrick Nietzsche This is my favorite. I'm going to purchase and read Man Alone with Himself this friday. Well done Tai, Thanks again. Have an excellent week.

    I like what you said about, "sometimes truth comes from the worst sources." That's very similar to my, "you can learn ANYTHING from ANYONE or even ANYTHING if you're willing to learn it, even from your enemies you can learn things." The best part about learning things from your enemies is it gives you insight about them, and it is always good to KNOW YOUR ENEMY! An example of this is ISIS, they are disgustingly horrible human beings, but something I took from them is, when they want something they will get it done! They have a passion and drive to rid the earth of infidels and anyone who is not about what they are about. That has showed me that I need to step up my drive and passion for things that are good! I need to work much harder on getting to the point where I can stop BULLIES like them! I like to simplify life, because we tend to complicate it too much. ISIS is the ultimate from of bullying because they are willing to kill, that is the ultimate form of hate. They have major issues in their selves and they are letting out the issues they have within themselves and pushing it onto others. Just like myself and anyone else on this planet, if we NEVER deal with many deep ROOTED issues, they will manifest themselves physically or emotionally or both! Until those issues are dealt with, we could never move forward. LOVE conquers all, but not just any love, God's love because he is TRUE love, PERFECT love! Remember that! We are all sinful and will always have wicked hearts! I am one of those with a really wicked heart! None is exempt! Knowledge is Power!

    Im currently sitting in a shed on a military base listening to and watching this video. Such valuable information. Even though my time often gets wasted by others and myself included, I am not satisfied with being an average joe in life as many in the military tend to be. I've bounced around a lot in life and I wish I had come across you earlier as I think it would have helped me cut the learning curve dramatically, but perhaps I needed to come to this point at this time.
    I'm going to listen to this video one more time to give a better response, but I feel a little bit wiser now and I intend to put it to good use.

    I think you're awesome, Tai! I'm addicted to these videos, feeling like a sponge absorbing these great ideas you're sharing with us. I feel like this is the best thing which happened to me in a loooong time... I'm so excited to get back my drive for reading (lost in the life's dust after college years). Reading these books I can clearly see why fiction has not really appealed to me. I got a few books recommended by you, some audio, some paper format for my teenager kids, listening to you or audiobooks while driving, while cooking, any spare minute is dedicated to learning. I feel alive again! Thank you and God bless you :) Not like I'm a very religious person, but what I mean is that I'm sending you all my good thoughts! keep doing what you're doing!!!

    First of all, thank you Tai! Another great thing I liked from this video, was what you had said with regards to the greatest thinkers in the world. We shouldn't discard any information without fully taking it in and fully pondering on it. I would like to add onto that and say, "these people who are thinkers are "professionals" in their fields, WHY WOULDN'T YOU LISTEN TO THEM! We are inferior to them because we did not put in nearly as much time as they have into pondering on things. You can learn much from a professional in ANY field in life. They are superior in their field for a reason. Arrogance, ignorance, and stubbornness only show JUST HOW FOOLISH PEOPLE ARE! I am included in this, just as anyone else is. We are all fools in one or more areas or aspects of our lives, none is exempt, because we are SINFUL humans, none is perfect. We all fail in something! This was one of my favorite videos of yours, many, many great topics and ideas.

    1. The conviction aspect resonated with me most. Never really thought about it like that, but it's the understanding that resonates. Conviction IS the enemy of truth.
    2. Going to work on being flexible. Solid advice I'm walking away is to be stubborn with the end goal, NOT the path.
    3. A conviction that I need to challenge is religion. I'm the son of a Lutheran Pastor and am a firm believer in a higher entity, and that higher entity to me is Jesus Christ. I've listened to atheists and other religious practitioners and they ALL make valid points. Thus being said, don't want to confuse FAITH with CONVICTION.

    Tai, just a quick note of thanks. I dont like confrontation when people get angry, id get angry back - reflect. But, now i realize that the person exhibiting anger seldom does it properly, i.e. at the right time, in the right way, at the right person - now I know that they are exhibiting "amateur" anger - i laugh instead! Thats a great insight!!

    1. Self Actualization: People who we cannot tolerate, we make suspect.
    For me, that's being judgmental and locked into my own finite view of opinions and perspective. And Magical Vanity.. Being/living in my head, when it undermines the ability for me to focus and be effective!
    2. Begin being brutally honest with myself is the first step, then finding that balance, and act by taking initiative in some form or manner.
    3. Also a conviction that I want to change is..that I am not able to make instinctual change, and that my circumstances are the CAUSE of that.
    Thanks Tai for your insight.

    Great video. My action points:
    1. The idea of challenging convictions, but in depth: challenge the top level opinions and delve down into the little facts that make them up to form a truely unbiased opinion, based on sound fact.
    2. I will challenge some conviction I have, for example: that love doesn't exist and can be found despite ambition to work hard and be respected; another one is that I can stop caring about what people think about me standing out.
    3. I need to challenge the conviction that I care about what people think about me, and that love isn't achievable.

  • @ahartov87
    @ahartov87 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    1.) The part about reversing the conviction on where you want to get to, vs. how I'm going to get there. 2.) The action I can take is to more open-mindedly re-evaluate the methods and paths I take to achieve my one-sentence destiny. 3.) Another conviction I need to challenge is that working to towards achieving your goals doesn't always feel good in the moment. Right now I'm in business school (night school) next to my full time job as a management consultant at PwC, and it's hard. I have a hard time grasping some of the concepts and it puts me off, I'm ashamed to admit.

    Thank you so much for the time you take to do these videos as well as your writing, Tai! I like to think of myself as a work in progress. It gives me lattitude for expansion and permission to change course as new information challenges my current set of assumptions. And, as you state, I agree that just as often, a sign of a good mind is the ability to entertain a thought without necessarily adopting it. As always, great stuff!

    Hej Tai, at first I was quite against the ideas of Niezsche, I`ve heard just negative stuff. In the beginning of the video it got challenging already, specially the part of challenging the believe that we ow our time to our family because we have 50% of their DNA in us. That is when it gets interesting, whenever I feel challenged by a new idea I need to keep listening and then is like a new coin in a video game or an accomplished achievement.
    I feel kind of being in front of you in a casual conversation, the ideas you share and the casual way makes it much easier to follow you. Thanks for challenging my believe system over and over again(with your other videos).

  • @IronKing66
    @IronKing66 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've something similar to what you said about convictions, although I heard it phrased in a different way. The way I heard this message spoken, was that "we are to be teachable, like little children".
    That's not to say that we need to childish as children are, but there's a certain wisdom found in children, where they are willing to reevaluate what they think they know, in favor of learning something new. Of course this isn't always the case with everything, but overall, children are teachable, and so too should we be. That doesn't mean you should abandon all of your values or beliefs, but be informed, understand why you believe what you believe, and be willing to expand on what you believe, or at the very least, gain a sense of perspective in order to better understand others.

    This is probably where I may be different, I'm all about putting the puzzle pieces together and making distant reasonable connections, making sense of the data rather than just trying to memorize and use it. Meditation is an example, if you do it right, of your taking a step back to see the whole picture and thus be better able to reconfigure information into a meaningful and, most importantly, applicable truth for your life.

    as a 25 year military family...thats right. There are some superiors. There are those above us and those beneath us as it pertains to rank/respect. Call it elitist if you will but it is one of the biggest problems in the workplace today. I started out as a little army private and didn't know my ass from my elbow, but I learned it and I learned respect and I learned that my promotion would come in time....ALOT of time. Its so overt in hospitals I work in and this "sameness" people are demanding is out of balance and counterproductive to the mission.

    I feel Friedrich Nietzsche is on to something with conviction being the enemy of truth. It takes a lot of courage to admit that we do not know everything about the things in our lifes that society upholds to be true.
    For me it was very difficult at first to question major institutions that I've always thought to be true. I was afraid of finding an answer that was not suitable for me to find order and coherency in my life, I was afraid of who I might become in the process.
    Now that I've put my beliefs through the crucible of Inquisition, though not perfect, the belief system I have now has had meny impurities burned away and I feel my belief system now is far more authentic and effective. And now more than ever I am present to just how little I know to be true and what I up held to be true at first seem to be nothing more than the indoctrination of others.
    So I say to you make your own truth and let the questions does this work? and is it sustainable? be your compass as you set sail to new horizons of understanding.

    It's All must come from inside out. Crowd and Top of the crowd is observation and evaluation. Some stupid always think they are top of the crowd by conviction...Amazing knowledge...I liked Mr. Lopez's frankness, sharp tin tell the right things without thinking front or back and left or right etc...
    I wholeheartedly believe he is going to be a great mentor for this world...I hope you all follow..Basically be open....use your head rather others when you design your life etc...

    Thanks for the video! It brought up some interesting points to think about. One thing that I'd like to suggest, and it's a bit of a paradox, is isn't being CONVINCED that not having convictions is the very thing that that you and Nietzsche are preaching against. Wouldn't it make sense instead for an individual to depend on whatever works for them. I believe it is possible to be convinced of something that has proven beneficial in a persons life as long as they keep an open mind and adapt new PERSONAL truths and convictions as their environment changes.

    Thanks again Tai! Right at 12:35 you start mentioning the End goal reason as to why we seek out any occupation or passion etc.. It really just gave me an epiphany of scheduling my time! I do free lance jobs and I got addicted to the Idea of how many different jobs I do and since I'm only half as good at some jobs than others, I've actually probably made it harder for all of them rather than "Doubling down too. You're the fucking best!

    well Tai first of all thank you very much for the great videos that you share with us. I am from Morocco. I will agree with everything you said especially when you said that people pretend that they good in everything and I used to be one of them. I would like to say that Germans are great philosophers there is a book called "siddaharta" by Hermen Hess and in this book which you probably have read, siddaharta has experienced a lot of things (good and bad) and he comes to the end to realize that life is both good and bad (sansara and nirvana) without one the other one won't exist. I hop you read this book and share it with us as you do with otger books.

    Back in the early 1990s I read everything he had published, but I have not read that particular title. At first, I only read what the professor told me to. Then I read the rest. I have 2 levels of degree in philosophy - I specialized in the ancient Greeks and the Germans of the 19th century including Nietzsche. N. was often misunderstood. He was a better writer than most of his peers. Because I am also a writer but loved reading good fiction, I liked his stuff better. LOL - but his stuff is like the very few bands who's work I liked so much that I bought or read or listened to their entire body of works.

    1.) what was that term, over-humility or something? regardless, the concept is impactful. and yet i think in order for me to change how vocal i am about myself, i notice that having more energy in general to engage with whatever reactions people bring can come to physiological issues like sleep, attitude, focus, and posture. doing more in order to be able to handle more. etc.
    2.) be more organized and tactical/efficient in how i handle my day; it gives me courage, energy, and confidence, instead of simply believing that i can handle social situations.
    3.) challenge my "morality" about sexuality and my own drive by pushing through my self-imposed social boundaries and internally&externally energizing/reframing my attitude and outlook on life and sexuality.
