This scene is fantastic, when hair in the wind pours sugar, first into his cup, then into the kicking bird cup, before pouring sugar on the others, he looks at Dunbar as if asking for permission, it's simply masterful because beyond what he gave them, he still needed his approval to continue using what was his, is for many reasons my top 5 favorite movies of my entire life.
Please its full of historical inaccuracies. This is post civil war era, the Lakota Indians had contact and traded with Europeans for over a 100 years. They would have tasted sugar and coffee 🙄🙄

This is a great scene. Not only does it establish the connection between these three men, its humanity is universal. IMO, Wind In His Hair = passion while Kicking Bird = reason. They need each other, given one man cannot be right all the time. LL

Lt. John Dunbar displayed well above average ability to draw what he saw. I’d imagine he could have whipped out his ink pen and diary and drawn the head of a “Tatanka” more easily than his “acting” it out in the dirt. Regardless a great scene in a phenomenal movie. Both Rodney A. Grant and Graham Greene and of course Costner were fantastic in their respective parts. “Dances” has been on my “all time” list since the first time I saw it!
And drink cough syrup and watched dances with Wolves couple of times back to back. They're changed once I reach the reservation of fourth of July the prices weren't bad for fireworks but better or some prices that were way better out of you haul from some guy that worked a government facility. A mezuzah go had nothing to do with him. But the guys side job was a box of fireworks for $25 that would have cost $80 at the reservation

Paleontologists have proven the horses were in North America before and also Native American figures of horses that date back longer than the 1500s

Costner as a "Sensitive New Age Guy" in the Western frontier is part of this film's charm. It's in no way a generic western.
What I enjoyed most of all about this movie was the casting of native people instead of Italians & Greeks as natives.
But some Italians could pass for Native Americans if they shave and keep quiet.

This movie, JFK, Wyatt Earp and Open Range. Costner ruled the 90's !
Open Range was after the 90's, agreed though he's done some great work. I'd add Field of Dreams(80's) to that list as well to balance Open Range out.
