my setup is a little more unique, I use a Sony trv 350 running an S-Video and right & left audio cables into a Retrotink2x Pro and then into HDMI to USB with a Camlink 4k into my phone using the Monitor+ app
I've been using the old Elgato with HDMI and RCA for ages now and I love it! Definitely need to keep my eye out for a combo player with an HDMI port though, would probably help the capture dropping when a VHS tape has a big unwritten gap in the tape.
Yeah I really like using that method it’s cool because the VCR combo lets you capture really any kind of camcorder footage. You can find the model I use on eBay but they are still a little pricey
@@brandoncameracollection im looking to mod my focus firestore fs100 to also take cf cards like the sony mrc1, personally i think the fs100 is the best budget mini dv recorder i have seen them go for like 70-80 dollars and for 10 dollars extra you can cf mod it super easy!
Max Vega made a good amount of videos about engineering these cameras to be truely portable! Problem is I’m not an electrician so I can’t really do it for my cameras, but I just use the power supply’s connected to a 300w power bank. I always shoot anyway on a tripod
@@Toronado1986 I’m not an electrician but I’m not going inside the camera like he did. My idea was to find a jack for that socket and solder things inside an Altoids tin or something like the gods intended. But I don’t know where to source the jack and cables (the camera I’m looking at is removable cable) are so expensive
I have a 1984. I think RCA tube lens camera VHS it is not working to take deck broke. It won’t eject I know it’s belts But I wanna make it tapeless but it will not turn on. Should I clean the contacts on the wires with wire cleaner, contact cleaner or make sure any wires are not loose or use electrical cleaner can someone please help me I really want this camera to work like I did when I was a kid. Thanks love your videos. I want to use this camera to film car shows and stuff and cool movies like back rooms footage. if you have any ideas, let me know. Thank you.
7:56 i tried using a two-to-one cable but the video signal created a loud buzzing in the right speaker of the recording

Sony cameras have their own pin out so you have to make sure the description specifies Sony compatiblility

@@Toronado1986 I do have a portapak but I don’t have a power supply :/ so I have no idea if it works. It uses a really weird connector
