    Mate that was beautifully demonstrated. Felt like a movie. Anyway I'm gonna save this video until a few months down the line when my LG55UJ630V gets worse until it's unwatchable with the blue tint. Then I'm gonna use this video to repair it. Subscribed!

    Just replaced my 55uj6300 backlights. Took 2 hrs. Ended up not needing superglue since the newer version came with doublesided tapes. Another thing, you need not pry all the 'buttons' aka leds from the old backlight strips since you can actually remove the reflective sheet itself. For the connectors to the strips, just use a flathead screwdriver to lift them up from the bottom. I would 100% recommend the suction cups though.

    Thank you for the video. I've started getting into electronics repair recently because 1) hate to add to our landfills. 2) It now costs money to get rid of a flat screen tv where I live - $20. So often a single very cheap part can stop your electronic device from functioning. And it seems all you need to learn is how to solder for the most part. I have a decent understanding of amplifiers/receivers but know little about flat screen tv's. So thanks again, and I definitely subscribed!

    Not to mention the sense of accomplishment one can get when actually being able to fix a broken device and get it working again. My furnace went out last winter, and luckily I had just enough "know-how" to get it up and running on my own. Alot of people would have needed to hire a HVAC person to come fix their furnace. It felt good pretty inside, and in my wallet. lol. :) nothing against HVAC people or businesses either, we all gotta make a living.

    I have a 50 inch Samsung with a patch of blue on the right hand side of the screen. It gradually came on during this year's summer heat wave. The blue patch is right in front of the TV's power supply board, which brings me to conclude the cause of the problem is the heat from the PSU, it caused the close by LEDs to overheat and burn off the phosphor coating.
    The TV is covered by a service plan, and will be fixed or replaced, but why would an expensive TV, supposedly one of the world's leading brands, be left open to this problem in the first place? The PSU should have been heat insulated and maybe even fan cooled (silently).
    Thanks so much for this video, you did a great job. I'm into electronics, but not nearly as brave as you! Well done.

    • @techbets102
      @techbets102  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd bet more than a few dollars that you paid for your service plan. Unfortunately, the goal of most companies is to produce a product that will last just long enough to outlive the default warranty period. Call it planned obsolescence, call it laziness, call it multiple engineering teams operating in vacuums, or all of the above unfortunately.

    Sad, to bring blue color down, there is no knob, rather have to go thru many hours of intense labor ( it means we must have all tools).

    • @techbets102
      @techbets102  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, because the 'blue' is not part of the functionality of the TV but rather the degradation of one of its components. It sucks but consider this- the LEDs cost about $30 and it took about 2hrs of labor for me to fix it. So instead of spending $300 on a new TV, I spent $30 saving $270 with only two hours of labor. I got paid $135/hr to repair this TV :)

  • @alembicbassman
    @alembicbassman ปีที่แล้ว +11

    This only seems to affect backlit LCD TVs - the ones with the thin bezels. The white light is produced by phosphor fluorescing under the native blue LEDs. The phosphor breaks down on the LEDs and they shine blue. I've seen lots of old edge lit LCD TVs still going strong after 15+ years of use - I have a 2012 Panasonic with a lovely edge lit IPS panel - Picture is still sharp and colours are great. If electricity wasn't so expensive I'd buy an old Plasma TV, but the 50 inch sets are 300 watts !

    • @techbets102

      Exactly - I broke the power clip for one of the LED strips and opted to just solder the positive and negative leads to the new strip once installed. If you're more careful than I am, you won't need to solder!

    Is it "heat" that causes the LED's to go bad? I was wondering about this, as I have a flatscreen that if you turn up the backlight too high the screen starts to blink, and I thought that was due to the LED's getting too hot. And it is caused by the design of most flatscreens as they don't have a fan. I've seen another TH-cam video where a guy cut a hole on the back of his flatscreen, added a computer fan, and it fixed the problem.

    • @techbets102
      @techbets102  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't have a good answer for you on that one. My understanding is that these LEDs don't really produce too much heat. If my TV was exhibiting that same behavior, I would question the power supply first. It's possible that it works to a certain point and then when you exceed the power threshold, it fails.
