James Whale clashes with Femi Oluwole over "white privilege"

  • Using the term ‘white privilege’ puts people off campaigning for social justice, a study has found.
The phrase made discussions ‘less constructive, more polarised, and less supporting over racially progressive policies’, researchers said.
James Whale agrees and says Black Lives Matter have caused "more racial disquiet in this country than we have had for quiet some time."
Last year, Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi said schools must not teach children about ‘white privilege’ as if it were fact. He warned it was a ‘contested view’ and teachers who promote it risk pushing ‘partisan’ politics on to pupils.

A 2 week training event came up at a major racecourse. His hopes and dreams died when he found out the free training programme was ONLY open to BAME because they believe the sport is too white. Young working class white lads have no hope the cards are stacked against them.

I would say this, if all jobs or careers were based on ability most of the people in the top jobs would never have been given the job.
If we remove racism, sexism, ageism, and a few other isms along the way, we would truly have an amazing system based on ability.
However many people would lose their jobs, and then we would have the problem of a lot more people on the unemployment, simply because so many get their job because they know the right people or look a certain way.
Think about how night clubs would let women in for free but charge men to enter, sexism I reverse, so it's everywhere.

Even when the UK was supposed to have been a hotbed of class discrimination, those with brains and tenacity got on, often with little help from others. Look at the most of the big names of the Industrial Revolution and the railway age, and people like Charles Dickens (sent out to work in his teens to support his family) and Dr. David Livingstone (sent to work 12-hour shifts in a mill when he was 10 years old, then taught himself Latin at night school and qualified as a doctor). Now look at a certain element that somehow gets itself noticed far too much by constant bleating and demanding special privileges whilst accusing others of 'privilege' simply because they have the ability and self-discipline to succeed by themselves.

It seems to be employers wishing to avoid the embarrassment of not being able to pronounce foreign sounding names in front of people. It also applies equally to white Europeans from Baltic nations.
In any case, it doesn’t seem to have any bearing on the real world as ethnic minority people are generally equally represented where they are equally qualified in the jobs market.

Look at the percentage of white people to black in this country. About 85/86 are white so more white people are going to be in jobs than black. It's based on the same in countries with different ethnicities that they'll hold the higher amount of jobs. I'm white but working class. I don't have a silver spoon in my mouth and can't play a race card, so I'm at a disadvantage to a black person in the same position. I can't have a quota in my place of work because I'm not getting somewhere. Stop the racism bull crap and get on with life. Slavery died out 250 + years ago. Britain was at the for front of eradicating that. White people were slaves and other groups of people long before black people. History is not something we should use to batter people with a stick that doesn't involve them. I take responsibility for my actions, not someone elses. There is a difference between wages for managers and the lower levels that you should concentrate on. That's the inequality in life. Rich are pitting people against each other to stem hate towards them. Stop looking through what is perceived and what is actually happening. Rich- richer and poor -poorer. I'm in no doubt about that.

The one thing I find rather strange is if the UK is such a racist place, why are so many people risking their lives to get here?

In my experience, success has little to do with the tone of skin you’re living in. Your ethnicity. Background and education. The most influential factor is attitude. Unfortunately, attitude is synonymous with many of the above. White privilege is an invented term, synonymous with this ‘hard done by me’ attitude. White privileged isn’t real.
You never hear large corporate groups proclaiming ‘we need to employ more white people’ or ‘we need to fast track the promotion of more white people’ but, those are common proposals for black people. Known as ‘positive discr’. So, cut the white privilege crap. I’m white, well educated, yet I work alongside black colleagues, who struggle to communicate in English, have poor interpersonal skills, and are no worse off than me.
You are in charge of your own destiny. Your skin colour, ethnicity, religion, culture and nurturing have little influence.
