“Fragile Rock ended the Cold War” is the perfect joke. I spent the entire video thinking about Defunctland's Jim Henson Documentary and the episode about Fraggle Rock, so listening to his voice at the end was such a nice surprise!!! Amazing job on this video, Pan! :)
Someone's been binging Defunctland. Jim Henson wasn't aiming to end the war with Fraggle Rock. He wanted to end _all_ war, which begs the question: is Fraggle Rock a failure? After all, Jim didn't factor in that war never changes. Red contemplating death really hits hard considering Jim himself at the time was concerned with his own mortality and almost certainly sensed his untimely demise.
Getting Defunctland on this to read a line just oddly made me a bit emotional (he made an amazing extensive history on the life of Jim Henson which really had me so torn by the end)
"Everything is important. Either that, or nothing is. I prefer the former." Holy shit. That's so profound and speaks more to me than any common pessimistic philosophy. Pickle Rick should watch this show.
I know you probably come across comments like these, or maybe I don't, who knows. But I just wanted to thank you for actually talking about this show, I'm obviously not anyone who worked on the show or had any connection, I was born in 2001, roughly two decades after. However, I grew up on a lot of re-runs, specifically DVD's, any 2000's kid had a large dvd collection of Disney movies, dreamworks, etc, but one of my favorites was Fraggle Rock, and you just reminded me of it. It brought back a lot of memories, given how me and my dad used to love them, I think even he grew up with it. It brought back a lot of memories me being 7, and only worrying about what Legos to build with or what game I want to play on my PS2 (probably Tony Hawk for the bajillionth time). It brought back me back to a time where I wasn't really as stressed as I am now, I've had a bit of a rough upbringing and dealt with social issues, but I just remember how I'd bring this dvd everywhere I went, my day care, my aunt's house, everywhere. I don't remember what season it was, but I just enjoyed it for what it was. So I appreciate you actually reviewing this show, especially for someone like me who had a huge admiration of it in their childhood, and how things are now. Schoolwork, a job, parents are divorced, the unending painful reality of real life. So, you probably might not read this, or you will, I don't know, I'm a guy who lives in Florida and plenty has happened, but as someone who grew up with the reruns, thank you, really, thank you, I absolutely appreciate it. Thanks for making my day, and actually bringing back good memories from my childhood, something I definitely needed the past few months.
still mad they made a show to be canceled and ended it on a retarded cliffhanger still mad they took beautiful puppetry and ruined it with abysmal CGI post effects
Damn, I was not expecting a video about fraggle rock to be so real and deep to a certain extent. Thank you pan for another excellent video. I feel this helps segway us even more into a Dark Crystal video finally
19:53 I really appreciated that little moment before the ending of the video. Reminded me of the Inspiration Animation clips Pan used to do in his older videos. Really needed it for today.
I wasn't alive when Fraggle Rock was on but my older cousin gave me a bunch of VHS tapes with it and for a long time I thought it was a fever dream until I stumbled upon it during college. Absolutely love it, thanks for covering it
DUDE, the Puppet Center is the best place I've ever been. My mom was in a coma and had to be at a special hospital in Atlanta, to take my mind off it my dad took me several times. They had a huge animatronic head you can control yourself. It was the tits, dude. I think it might have been Ludo from The Labyrinth but I'm not sure. I think they had a ton of Labyrinth stuff.
the magic be with you section reminded me of some of your older reviews, namely the gurrenn lagann and ed edd n eddy ones. Considering Fraggle Rock was the first show I remember ever watching and you're one of the youtubers I've been consistently watching the longest it was a double whammy of nostalgia.
So, I saw this video when it came out, and forgot about most of it. Then while visiting my dad I’m Atlanta, today we went and checked out the center for puppetry arts. I told my dad about this video, and rewatch it, and I completely forgot the center for puppetry arts Segen t, so that caught me way off guard! Edit December 2024: it happened again! While visiting my dad we saw they had some puppets from the original Rudolph stop motion movie so we went to see that, I saw the fraggles again (this time I also got the complete fraggle rock visual history so that’s cool) and remembered this video, rewatched it, and got caught off guard by the center for puppetry arts segment!
Pan’s talking about Jim Henson! Hell yes! I’d love to see you take on a lesser-known Jim Henson/Muppet oddity, like The Jim Henson Hour or Muppets Tonight.
Interestingly “Fraggle Rock” was not the only connection Jim Henson’s Muppets had with the Soviet Union. In 1988 there was a television special called “Free to Be...a Family” where “The Muppets” crossed over with “Good Night, Little Ones” a Russian puppet show which included a tongue-in-cheek parody of both America and the USSR.
Haven't watched yet, but it isn't too surprising - Fraggle Rock was basically about two neighbouring civilisations with highly different philosophies that still got along.
Jim’s pitch to the creative team was simple: create a series that might make a difference-hopefully, with a new global reach-in the world at large. (“I want to do a children’s television show that will stop war,” Jim said cheekily.) Excerpts from the bio by Brian Jay Jones, 2013
I just wanna say that Fraggle Rock was inspired by an idea from a Bermudian artist who got the idea from radio shows he used to listen to, as well as the caves located on the island. The idea wasn’t birthed from Jim Henson.
Ahh seeing crow T robot & tom servo at the center for puppetry segment made me so happy !! you should totally do a review of mystery science theater 3000! the campy 90s sci-fi style and colorful yet dingy atmosphere of the show is totally up your alley, not to mention the sarcastic & bizarre comedy. it would be so rad to hear your thoughts on it!!
Only rebel taxi can make me watch a video on fraggle rock and honestly be engaged the entire time. I’ve never seen it personally but the origin is so cute.
We need some sort of Fraggle Rock reboot or something to bring people together since this world is such a mess right now! Oh, wait, they already made that for Apple TV😂
I think about this show constantly. It's always in the back of my mind. I think about lessons it taught me, and I go "wow, this show knew how to be kind." Jim Henson was incredibly talented and so were all the people who worked on this show!! You talked about video games in this for fun but a fun fact: Karen Prell, the voice and puppeteer of Red Fraggle, also worked on the Portal games in design of characters like Glados and Wheatley I believe. These people were so damn talented that they didnt just stick with puppetry.
My mom had all the episodes of fraggle rock when I was a kid, and I remember I really loved watching it. I'm 19 now, a sophomore in college, and the ending to this video made me cry. I don't know why, it just resonated with me in a why I may not understand. This is my favorite rebel taxi video to date, thank you so much Pan :')
that final bit with all those quotes got me emotional. I always saw this show as an ad before a muppets VHS "Things that go", and never saw it before. The music feels so well thought out
I live in Alabama and a lot of times when I was younger my dad would take me to the puppet museum in Atlanta and we would watch puppet shows that they performed there. I got to see puppet shows of The Diary of Anne Frank and Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, it was really cool because the guy who performed all of the puppets for a Great Expectations also made them by hand and he was only there for a limited time, a lot of people think puppets are creepy but they’re really cool and they’re a great way to tell interesting stories, like I never would’ve read Great Expectations when I was young but when the puppets touched hands at the end 12-year-old me cried bro!

Traveling Matt better be at the next evo
Still mad that the Dark Crystal is canceled.
So am I hopefully with any luck maybe they get HBO Max to renew it seen as HBO and Jim Henson do have a pretty good
Yet they chose to have pedobait on their service
Fitting icon
still mad they made a show to be canceled and ended it on a retarded cliffhanger
still mad they took beautiful puppetry and ruined it with abysmal CGI post effects
Subscribers cancelling their subscriptions was bound to have a domino effect. Just wait until everyone resubscribes after Stranger Things 4 drops.
16:35 oh gosh, Mat is a brony at those times
I TOTALLY WANT TO SEE YOUR TAKE ON THE DARK CRYSTAL!
I LOVE THAT FILM AS A KID!
Not just the film, but he should review both the film and series.
Dark Crystal is like the original Zelda, heck you could compare it to Majora's Mask even!
@@BannerMirror501 ive seen the movie, there was a series too?
May their legacy "Rock On".
This is, hands down, your best video Pan
How Fraggle Rock ended the Cold War: *IT ENTERTAINED PEOPLE AND MADE PEOPLE FORGET ABOUT IT*
That conclusion was so beautiful I loved this video !
the magic be with you section reminded me of some of your older reviews, namely the gurrenn lagann and ed edd n eddy ones.
I don't know why this video made me break down in tears
I have a deep love for Jim Henson and everything the company has ever produced. Hearing this made me so happy.
Everytime I bring up Fraggle Rock no one has no idea what I’m talking about so I’m am beyond thankful Taxi is talking about it
this is one of my favorite pan videos tbh i rewatch it alot :) but think its because it made me interested in fraggle rock as well
Jim’s pitch to the creative team was simple: create a series that might make a difference-hopefully, with a new global reach-in the world at large. (“I want to do a children’s television show that will stop war,” Jim said cheekily.)
Excerpts from the bio by Brian Jay Jones, 2013
Is fair to say it failed? The thing about war is: it never changes.
Hanskah “there is never a good war, kiddo.”
-Greg Universe
I just wanna say that Fraggle Rock was inspired by an idea from a Bermudian artist who got the idea from radio shows he used to listen to, as well as the caves located on the island. The idea wasn’t birthed from Jim Henson.
I think the world really started going downhill after Jim Henson passed away; imagine what he could have done if he'd had more time.
The intro song is "Jam Jam Hype!?" from the Atlus game Go Go Hypergrind for those wondering.
thanks bro
@@neptunion No problem, that track slaps!
Fun fact:Robot Chicken co-creator Matt Seinrech made his first television appearance on a promo for Fraggle Rock.
Fun trivia - for the Fraggle Rock animated series, Rob Paulsen voiced Boober, and Barbara Goodson (Rita Repulsa) voiced Red
Interesting how you referenced Defunctland who also did an amazing job covering Fraggle rock
@@ChaseIsDaAce If Defuntland was featured, he would have had a more prominent role than to just read a quote.
12:09 rare footage of Traveling Matt actually angry
I loved fraggle rock it always got me excited when the theme song played
Who has more power? An executive, or his daughter who doesn't like a cartoon?
His daughter's name is Angelica Pickles.
@@joeybaseball7352 I mean... Your not wrong
4:04 This is very relatable.
You should do a Dark Crystal video, that sounds interesting.
Only rebel taxi can make me watch a video on fraggle rock and honestly be engaged the entire time. I’ve never seen it personally but the origin is so cute.
Aight then.
16:25 OH MY GOD, TRAVELING MATT IS A BRONY!!!
I wish someone will make a TV show that will put an end to the Coronavirus epidemic.
Oh MUppet History on Twitter is going to love this.
Madam Trash Heap was the bees knees
Dude. The theme song rocks (no pun intended). That banger ended the war
There was a show that was on Sprout a few years ago called Doozers and the theme song annoyed me so much. I didn't know they came from here!
oh fudge I remember that I kinda hated it not because it was bad per say but like it completely missed the point of the original series.
This video broke my heart and I’ve never even seen the show. I can’t imagine if I had been a fan of the show as a kid.
I remember being in kindergarten an seeing an add for the show and being afraid of the big puppet monster that could pick them up so easily
i was so terriffied of that Brown Gorg as a kid XD Glad i am not the only one XD
that final bit with all those quotes got me emotional. I always saw this show as an ad before a muppets VHS "Things that go", and never saw it before. The music feels so well thought out
THE HUB WAS THE BEST! None of my friends seem to remember it.
Another banger of video bro, this is heartwarming
I've never heard of Fraggle Rock before this video. I still ended up crying at the end of the video
You should watch it, it's really good (Red's the best character imo)
The Defunctland series about Jim Henson will have you crying all over again, even if you weren't familiar with his work before.
If the Fraggle's ended the cold war , does that mean Ned from Earth to Ned can save us from the disaster that is 2020?
21:30 A wild Kevin appears! Excellent channel. I was pleasantly surprised to see/hear him here.
