  • Picked up a Kobol Expander by Behringer a few weeks ago and thought I should do a quick video showing it's sound and explaining why I like it. Some compression, reverb, and delay were added. Sorry about the blurry video!

    Thanks for the advice, Bata. The Kobol is next on my list and you have made my purchase easier.

      You won't be disappointed it's a great synth!

    I would not mind seeing the KE hooked up to a Torso T1. What a pair that would make.

    Well done - you were able to clearly show the unique personality of this fantastic instrument. And on top of that, add very valuable sugestions. Mine is arriving in 2-3 days…
    Incredibile what behringer is doing.

    Really nice demo :)
    Seems like there are some pretty wicked sound capabilities here.
    Cheers Bata!

      It can do a lot for a $300 synth. I've been getting some sounds out of it that remind me of $3000 Serge panels.

      @@Bata9999 That’s quite impressive to hear.
      Also, this is the first synth Behringer has put out where I had never heard anything about the original synth it was based off.

    I presume I'd be able to connect this with the minilogue xd and use it to overdrive the XD?

    • @Bata9999
      @Bata9999  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know what kind of overdrive sound you are expecting to get out of the kobol. A dedicated effects unit probably makes more sense for this. Kobol would still be somewhat useful as the Minilogue has a couple CV ins that you could do some things with.

    How could you set velocity response from mid i?

    • @Bata9999
      @Bata9999  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think the Kobol responds to midi velocity but there are a lot of patch points so if you have a midi to cv converter you can send velocity to almost any knob on the synth.

    Greaaaat ! Did you find how the center button (LFO-Both-ADS) affect the sound ?

    • @Bata9999
      @Bata9999  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's the switch for the pulse width modulation. To hear the PWM you need the oscillator waveform all the way up.

    At this point mono synths are like Pokémon to me. I gotta catch them all. Behringer is pricing these synths were they are to easy of an impulse buy. 😅

      @Bata9999  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Catching all the pokemon isn't as important as picking a good team and learning which moves are best on which pokemon.

    have you tried the malekko manther?

    • @Bata9999
      @Bata9999  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't tried the manther but I've heard the Roland 500 modules that were done with Malekko are excellent. The manther looks pretty basic from taking a quick look at it. I don't think I've ever heard it.

    Why do most Behringer clones sound so harsh? :-(

    • @Bata9999
      @Bata9999  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I'm intentionally making harsh sounds here. It's possible you just don't like analog synths.

      @@Bata9999 From the same evidence, it is equally possible to draw the conclusion that I have two heads. 😜

      @@genepozniak I can see from your videos you are an older guy who plays acoustic guitar. Exactly the type of person I would expect to complain about feedback, crossmod, and audiorate fm sounds. I'm sure the original Kobol would sound plenty harsh using these techniques and it has nothing to do with Behringer.

      @@Bata9999 So you didn't notice the synth video or the fact that I play 12-string with an EBow? But I am well-known in the synth community for complaining about people purposely adding noise and record pops to formerly nice clean tracks. OH! And don't get me started about all you f*cking kids on my lawn!!!
