Having a stranger living with him is not easy , i'm sure Dev is grateful to clifford for allowing him to shelter him for 1.5 yrs is a pretty long period. Who rubbed onions in my eyes? I AM NOT CRYING!! YOU ARE CRYING!!! Jokes aside...so very glad for the young man. Spent a part of my youth on the streets myself. And with young folks like that you never know. There might be traumata, there might be abuse and and and...Just taking in a stranger is not so easy, taking in a kid with potentially a lot of issues...it is not that simple. Taking the risk, going the way... I can not express how much that means. For people like that, having someone who can serve as an example, who shows them what discipline is but also shows compassion nd kindness and maybe tells them that they re not worthless and useless...it can have such a huge impact. I myself in the end made it off of the streets, but the precious few friends I had back in those days did not. They were no saints, none of us were. But they were very good natured people at their core that had been dealt some very bad cards. Honest, loyal, incredibly hard working, striving for a better future. A few of them certainly more intelligent than me as well. They just didn't have that last bit of luck. Having any sort of helping structure or someone reaching out to you in such a situation can really change a life for the better. But as I said, I fully acknowledge it is not an easy thing to do. Only thing I can say is - God bless those two. Wish them nothing but the very best. Thank you for sharing their story.
It was so good of this man opening his home to a stranger. It works both ways too that people need to follow rules when someone has invited them in to their space. If someone opened their home to me I would do my best to respect their wishes. Especially where sleep is concerned. Most of us want to have a good night sleep and it can affect our performance if we don't so he should have respected his host in that but hopefully he has learnt from this as he grows into a young adult. He is very lucky that this went the way that it did. We had a family friend who did the EXACT same thing as this man did. He opened up his house to a man who was homeless and in need. The homeless man, instead, of being grateful as this child has been. Ended up murdering him because he wanted to take over the entire house instead of sharing it with anyone. While this seems to be a particularly heartwarming story, it doesn't always turn out as wholesome as this one has. Please be careful when letting others into your homes; not everyone is as emotionally stable or grateful as this young man.
That’s horrible. I’m so sorry to hear that. However, I think this story is different… Dev was not a grown man but a kid that had been in the foster care system that was supervised by a social worker. And Clifford stated that he had extensive and ongoing conversations with Dev’s biological father and social worker(s) that were caring for him prior and during the initial months of his stay. So while it isn’t exactly adoption, it’s sort of like an unconventional adoption. Your family friend’s case is absolutely tragic and terrible, but it sounds like the person he let in was just a random homeless man from the streets without any identification. So while the cautionary tale is important, I don’t think it’s apples to apples here.
