That button scene reminded me so much of this Expanse scene: "There was a button", Holden said. "I pushed it." "Jesus Christ. That really is how you go through life, isn't it?"
I was a latchkey kid in the 80s. I was alone from 2:30 to 6::00 most days starting at the age of 8. It was just how it was for many of me and my friends. As we got older, we'd get into all sorts of mischief. This is very relatable to me.
You are roleplayers, right? Have you ever seen a suspicious button in a dungeon and the group did NOT push it, eventually? Most of the time they know it`s stupid, and they push it anyway. I placed a suspicious button in dungeons for multiple groups, it never was good for the group, and I yet have to find a group not pushing that button. I evem put a (slightly unspecific) warning on it and they still pushed it.
I mean The New Republic was founded to be free from the Empire so they`d likely want as little to do with the government that became The Empire as possible, don`t you think?
I had the same reaction about using the controls at their desk if they needed to use the refresher. Like, is this a wizards shit on the floor moment? Then I remembered taking the bar exam, and if you needed to use the restroom, you had to signal the proctor to let you go (I guess to make sure you weren't smuggling out the test materials to cheat). So I assume that's what's happening. Press the button to signal that you need someone to come by and give you permission to leave.
That's what I assumed while watching it, that you're requesting a bathroom break, not "refreshing" on the spot. I once visited a Directory Assistance center at AT&T (decades ago now). It was a room full of small work stations with operators answering calls. They could not simply jump up and run to the bathroom anytime they wanted. They had to push a request button that both paused incoming calls at their station and lit a signal light on the wall. Someone would come to take your place while you ran to the bathroom. Only one operator at a time was allowed to the bathroom. If the light already was on, you had to wait before making your own request. Same sort of thing happens to workers on an assembly line, be it auto assembly or chicken processing. You have to request a break.
This show reminds me so much of growing up in the 80's and 90's. Me and my friends were all nerds, and girls were assholes with bad attitude. 10/10 no notes.
I loved this show! I was born 1984 i was a California suburban skater skate punk lover but also followed the straight and narrow. This takes me way back! Best star wars ever! I skated my whole life hardcore style until a few years ago and my body is broken so now i have star wars and for some reason this show made me tear up and opened a lot of suppressed memories and feelings like no other star wars since i saw luke destroy all those droids and pull up his hood. A visceral reaction to my core.
When i was a kid we all dreamed of motorizing our bicycles. One kid rigged his bike to a lawn mower engine. He did a poor job of figuring out the gear ratio step down. I had never seen so much blood. He survived, with some serious scars and a sobering life lesson. My dad built a lawn mower powered go cart. He overthought the ratios. It barely moved.
When I clicked play on this show last night, I was not ready for "A New Hope, but Pirates!" as our establishing scene. 😆 This is such a fun show, happy to see you two reacting to it. Catch you in the next one!
My guess would be the career aptitude test would be something like the old 11c exam in Britain, and have a bearing on what type of education you have when you are older. A good result a good higher education, a bad one and you are going to a bad school.
The dad going straight back to work and not taking the kid home is I think just another nod to the dystopian feel. Everything is just so focused on assigning people to a career and then having them devote their entire life to it. He’s also evidently already had some discussion with the authorities about the incident so I guess they could have told him where his son was found then. So probably not a huge stretch for him to head out there to search.
Watched episodes 1 and 2 tonight. I went in with low expectations, but I thought they were a lot of fun. The kids weren't too annoying, and it really hearkened back to the 80s kids adventures of my childhood. I think the combination of tone and basic setup worked shockingly well, and I'm very much looking forward to episode 3! Oh, and I'm not giving up hope to see Hondo at some point...
To be fair I was 5ft 4in at 13. Im 33 years old and am im still this height im a cis man. Some folk just dont grow. But I def felt this character was a bit older at least on the cusp growing more but just not there yet. His friend liking a person him just wanting jedi battles to happen. It was really cute But to bring it back some time were just short, or talll isnt really a measure. its about what they display. its def differenet displays of puberty and in different species ? kinda cool story telling
I've forgotten most of my maths but I don't know what his dad is on about 1.6094 is the correct answer atleast to 4 decimal places to ln(5). It's natural logs or the logarithm of the mathematical constant e. From what I remember it's mostly used in derivative calculations and is used alot in working out interest rates and rates of return. It's a banking and accountancy planet, it's cruel and unusual punishment to teach that to 8-11 year olds.
The art on the wall looked like the elephant alien version of the St. Pauli Girl sign. I know so many suburban dads who have that sign in their garage.
Its a super high pressure world for success, mainly as a closed economy world with no outside contact, at least I don't think they have any outside contact. All of the characters so far, mainly the 4 kids, seem well thought out and 3 dimensional.
Thanks for the breakdown! I have a quick question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
I think we are supposed to have lots of questions about the world. But, yeah, the kids are all great. I did have to laugh, just as I was thinking "wow, this girl is terrible" Nerdy said "I love this girl!"
I liked your take on setting the two parents up. Being a single parent myself with a boy with full custody its hard to find time to meet people. But I'm not cold like Wim's dad I spend all my free time with my son. It helps i like toys and videogames and pretending and i read a lot to him as well.
I was thinking the boy's were around 10 and the girls 11-12. I was left with my younger siblings at 11/12, for a couple hours every weekend, in the mid to late 90s.
The kids are pretty good (the one with the visor hasn't had much to distinguish her from just being the other girl's sidekick so far, but it's early days), but since this is kinda "Goonies in space", maybe we need to find out a bit more about what *they* know about the barrier thing in the sky and "The Great Work" (which doesn't sound creepy at all).
I totally forgot about this show and didn’t have much hope for it going in, but that opening had just the right amount of violence to grab my attention. The show itself has a Speilbergian quality to the storytelling and the cinematography that feels so comforting. The little blue elephant was definitely the MVP of the show. I just need someone to explain how a spaceship with roots bisecting it is space worthy in anyway???
Guys, when Neel and Wis were practicing the tables on the bus to school they said 7 of 9, that could be a hidden reference to the rival Space franchise 🤔
Yes the 1980's kenner action figures the cerial and a bunch of other points. Do you get a Spielberg vibe off of the suburban kids in this series or is it just me?.
So... I'm not even going to tell you how much time it took scrolling through my subscriptions, twice, to realize I have been watching you guys and never had subscribed. Ha. Fix it. Anyway, I have a select number of folks I really enjoy reactions of, and you guys are in that. I like everything I watch, but subscribing is very select for me. Also, Nerdy was 6ft tall at 13? Wild!
They're teaching Matrix Math in Middle/Elementary school... I didn't learn that until Highschool... in AP math classes. Also they are way too young to be taking "Career track" testing, like that's a really messed up society, and it's deliberate.
U guys should check Star war Theory's Breakdown to Ep1-2, it give a lot of insight n he is enjoying the show like must of us. This is happening 9 years after Vader kill Palatine the Emperor n Luck save the galaxy, so this Ethiopia is a secrets planet that still is under Empire control n the amount of gold/credits the father give the kid it is lunch money for a week, but outside the planet Mando would had hunted n kill multiple people/creatures for that money, is Thousands of credit out side. (there is a big secret apparently)
Space Pirates is ALWAYS a WIN! 🫡 Holiday Special brainrot canonized.🫡 Repulsorlift tech has NEVER been the end all be all of Surface transportation in the SWU. The sand crawler has tracks. The Juggernaut has wheels (so does R2) A multi purpose roadway that allows for all forms of travel, hover, wheel, rail, autodrive or piloted, Usable by vehicles Tethered to community power or self sufficient.... All of it make sense. ground coaches of every tech level or social strata exist, And it is a mark of civilization when you are not trudging along a muddy track. TBF, They did do this before, It was the Droids and the Ewoks Animated t v series and the Ewoks Live action movies. It is Space Goonies, Treasure Planet SWU, Stranger SW Things, And that can be a good thing. (It will be a great thing if we get Live action old Hondo Ohnaka)
the kids in star wars have officially their own cocomelon/baby shark brain rot, and i love that it came from the holiday special
The dad's attitude toward his child, the bus driver not stopping, the all or nothing exam and teachers who don't care is all very 80's movie coded.
Yep! As it seems to be purposeful!
That button scene reminded me so much of this Expanse scene: "There was a button", Holden said. "I pushed it." "Jesus Christ. That really is how you go through life, isn't it?"
I really need to revisit explorers. I haven't seen it since I had hair. I'm 46 and it's been a long time since I had hair haha
I was a latchkey kid in the 80s. I was alone from 2:30 to 6::00 most days starting at the age of 8. It was just how it was for many of me and my friends. As we got older, we'd get into all sorts of mischief. This is very relatable to me.
Hey at least that's only three and a half minutes of being unsupervised! (Little TH-cam humor for you)
“Blank D-O-O economics. Anyone? Anyone? Voodoo economics.” It’s like the droid equivalent of the teacher from Ferris Bueller’s day off.
"They look the same from, like, 5 to 13" Hardest I've laughed in so long. Thank you N&C
All the sudden the woman in Ep 2 asking if they are children makes more sense
You are roleplayers, right? Have you ever seen a suspicious button in a dungeon and the group did NOT push it, eventually? Most of the time they know it`s stupid, and they push it anyway. general issue in story driven games is that this stuff hides content and you want to see all the content since that is the reward.
I found it weird and maybe telling that the parents and teachers always said "The Republic" and not "The New Republic" as you would think they would.
I mean The New Republic was founded to be free from the Empire so they`d likely want as little to do with the government that became The Empire as possible, don`t you think?
16:17 the children yearn for the mines

When Clarus said "Toshi Station." and that smile and the little laugh crept out of Nerdy was an adorable moment in y'alls reaction.
"I thought this was a kids show" was my exact reaction to the opening pirate scene
I loved this show! I was born 1984 i was a California suburban skater skate punk lover but also followed the straight and narrow. This takes me way back! Best star wars ever! I think the kids are from the planet where they created the Reavers by accident
12 year old are angsty and sassy. That kid is still so pure he has to be under 10.
In real life the actor is 13

Rey may not have started HER school, but Luke has started his.
🔥Too soon... too soon 😢
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The Goonies IN SPAAAAACE!
i also got stranger things season 1 (in space) vibes
@@vinsanity40k Strangers Things takes some of their inspiration from Goonies
When I clicked play on this show last night, I was not ready for "A New Hope, but Pirates!" as our establishing scene. 😆

This may be the best first episode of Star Wars I’ve ever seen. The blend of action and character development meshed incredibly well!
To be fair I was 5ft 4in at 13. Im 33 years old and am im still this height im a cis man. Some folk just dont grow. You just reminded me that 'e' is also useful for calculating continuous compounded interest. Accountant Planet At Attin is.
As a Gen-Xer....I was left alone with my brother as a latch key kid from age 6 onward.
Did you notice the bus driver was from Disney Star Tours
I'm here for watching Clarus guess childrens ages lol.
The actor who plays Fern reminds me of the child actor who starred in My Girl.
The art on the wall looked like the elephant alien version of the St. Pauli Girl sign. I know so many suburban dads who have that sign in their garage.
The boys trying to rappel down like idiots is so realistic. My friends and I did stupid shit like that all the time back in the 90's.
Hahaha "did they just say take a shit at your desk?" that's priceless
Nice Tshirt. That's a good one to be wearing if captured by aliens.
This takes place between episode 6 and 7 so Luke's Jedi school should still be around.
Its a super high pressure world for success, mainly as a closed economy world with no outside contact, at least I don't think they have any outside contact. All of the characters so far, mainly the 4 kids, seem well thought out and 3 dimensional.

Clarus: "There is a single person watching right now" *wave*
Me: *wave*
Great work! Keep it up.
Who knew! Walter White likes Star Wars...lol
I think we are supposed to have lots of questions about the world.
But, yeah, the kids are all great.
I did have to laugh, just as I was thinking "wow, this girl is terrible" Nerdy said "I love this girl!"
They have never seen Star before..HINT HINT..yeah the "Planets Lost or Hidden" to the rest of the Galaxy it seems.
Pretty sure the table of 5 is 1.618
I liked your take on setting the two parents up. Being a single parent myself with a boy with full custody its hard to find time to meet people. But I'm not cold like Wim's dad I spend all my free time with my son. It helps i like toys and videogames and pretending and i read a lot to him as well.
I figured Wim is so easily located is that all the kids are lojacked.
I was thinking the boy's were around 10 and the girls 11-12. I was left with my younger siblings at 11/12, for a couple hours every weekend, in the mid to late 90s.

I really think that the practicality of this is what made it so good. If only the movies did this, I think they'd be a lot better
I have to be honest. Did not think much about the show at first but I AM HOOKED NOW
This is set during the time of Luke's Jedi school not Rey's.
I like this show a lot idk what it is but I was so scared for them during this episode 😂❤
Guys, when Neel and Wis were practicing the tables on the bus to school they said 7 of 9, that could be a hidden reference to the rival Space franchise 🤔
3:20 the accent does give it away, but I dot think you are supposed to know
Yes the 1980's kenner action figures the cerial and a bunch of other points. Do you get a Spielberg vibe off of the suburban kids in this series or is it just me?.
Anyone else getting The Giver vibes from this planet?

Good afternoon! I like your new looks and your hair color is gorgeous. ❤
First thing every one should wonder is, what is the great work?
So freaking good.
They're teaching Matrix Math in Middle/Elementary school... I didn't learn that until Highschool... in AP math classes. Also they are way too young to be taking "Career track" testing, like that's a really messed up society, and it's deliberate.
Walter white is crazy 😂
I dont know if the woman reactor has ever been a kid hahaahah thats hilarious 5-13 LOOL
This show is cool!
I like that Clarus is coming in with the same amount of cynicism as I did
I have an INSANE theory about their planet, At-Attin, and its whole deal. I’ll post it with spoiler warnings on y’all’s ep 2 react
I also have a theory, and if it's right, wow. I can't wait to see how this plays out. I bet we're thinking the same things lol
Wait you guys are Canadian no way no way?
I'm team Clarus on kids. Everything between 5 and 13 is the same thing...
Wow. This show has no business being this good.
The boy is 13 years old.
Clarus looking beautiful : )
Lowest views I saw was 33 on a couple of vids from 3 or 4 years ago.
building the New Republic is the Great Work?
Easy kid age guide. Compare to Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson in HP1. Thats 11. Extrapolate. My guess, Wim is 10.
In real life the kid is 13
8 or 9? That is 12 -14
I'm guessing the girls are 12-13 and the boys are 10-11 years old.
Hated seeing all the lawns at the beginning. This is Star Wars, not America.
Barrier=weather control maybe?
Wow, first 😁
The oldest vid in the stack (8yrs)(I played a game...) 2200 views.
The Rey movie has been put on hold might end up canceling it
