This is an old video, but it's worth pointing out that Canon now offers their own "C-Log" on the Canon 5D Mark IV, which shouldn't be confused with the third party "C-Log" being talked about here. If your Mark IV is older and doesn't have C-Log already, and you're opening your wallet to buy a picture profile, I'd recommend looking into the Canon option first.
Sorry old comment but can you elaborate. I bought a mark iv in 2020 and I've never seen the Clog settings.

Or, you could just go to 2:14 and pause the video and copy the settings into a manual user-defined setting. I got C-log for free by going to User Defined 1, setting the picture style to Neutral, lowering Saturation and Contrast to -4, and then setting Color Tone to 2 (which is what is shown at 2:14 as the settings for C-log).

I'm not sure about this eoshd.com stuff, but i'm using technicolor's cinestyle picture profile. It installs the same way as this one does, and yeah I initially thought that it just changes the in-camera settings to a certain set of parameters. So I copied those parameters into my settings, and then did a comparison. Since cinestyle was free, i downloaded it anyways and installed it into my 7dmk2. So i took images using (a) cinestyle and (b) my user defined settings that 'copied' cinestyle's parameters. To my amazement, its not the same at all. Cinestyle actually changed something intrinsic that we probably can't tweak ourselves in our camera settings, which really boosts the dynamic range of the footage taken.
TLDR: No, its not the same as just copying the parameters and entering the settings into your camera yourself, as it changes stuff that normally isn't accessible on your camera settings screen. Hope this helps clear things up :)

C-Log isn’t just some color profile that you can fake, it’s raw footage that allows you total control over your image. I suggest anyone watch this go check out installing MLVRAW instead. Otherwise just drop your contrast and saturation manually and save yourself $10
Its foolish to spend $10 when you can decrease the contrast and Saturation in picture profiles and create yourself a new Picture Profile.
It's not really close to actual flat profile or C log but it's gonna give you some of relaxation to play around while color grading

You title is misleading. You are not talking about original Canon C-log and that is completely different from picture profiles.

People that don't know shit about cameras will call this c-log. It's not. Lessening saturation, decreasing contrast and adding more color tone is not what c-log is doing. c-log is physically giving a camera more dynamic range. If you don't know what dynamic range is, EDUCATE yourself. It don't matter how you slice it. If you don't have enough light and your footage is terribly underexposed, no matter of settings can increase the dynamic range and get detail in those blacks. It's literally impossible. Trust me, I've tried it. Changing these settings is no different change making these adjustments in post. The ONLY thing you can do with that DSLR camera is Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO, White Balance, and then your brain deciding the best of those settings that DO ACTUALLY change something and getting in the best light conditions as possible. These people are stealing your money because you are LITERALLY getting the exact same limited detail in your camera before and after changing those settings. Anybody who disagrees with that is f***ing moron.

Technicolor Cinestyle is free and achieves a similar goal using the same tools. Are you suggesting that the EOSHD [faux] "cLog" profile is better/more accurate than the Technicolor Cinestyle with regards to in-post color grading?

Cinestyle clips highlights very easily. and eoshd retains some details in highlights.

This is not C-log. Its Picture/Video Profiles. Not real Canon Log. I just sent my 5DM4 to Canon so they can upgrade it to C-log. Its $100. Only they can do it.

I did the same- but ended up going back to Neutral then [S: 0 | C:-4 | SAT: -4 | CT: 0] So it's not a perfect cine camera, but you would just manipulate "Color Tone" [green\magenta shift] Saturation & Contrast as needed. works for controlled shoots.

Obviously you don't know what you are talking about :D So perhaps - don't give advice then?
Shooting flat is never a good idea without 10-bit (or higher) color. What you're using here doesn't damage footage as much as CineStyle or generic flattening that involves cranking contrast -5 and whatnot, but I still see the sickly color damage in your skin tones. NO ONE should be shooting flat on relatively cheap consumer camera gear. You gain 1/2 to 1 stop dynamic range you'll be "correcting" right back out in post and at the expense of permanently ruining your colors and hampering your footage. Please never do this stuff. Stick to a standard or neutral color profile with all of the tweaks set to zero. It may not be what the DSLR cool kids are doing but it gives you the greatest latitude in post based on my own tests. You'll be happy to have that latitude when you discover you made a mistake and it's too late to re-shoot.

Well, when you bake-in the color/contrast settings into an image (pre-set PP’s), you are unable to retrieve information that would be available if you had shot flat. Say your sky is blown out, but you wish you could see some of the clouds that were there on the day. With a baked-in image style, you are not able to recover it. With a flat image, you have a much better chance of recovering the clouds - OR if you under or over-expose something, you have a better chance to recover information that would otherwise be lost." source - philipbloom.net/blog/pictureprofiles/ Personally, I'm no expert re. video, but for stills, raw is flat and far better than jpgs, which auto add sharpness, contrast and saturation. If shooting flat works for raws, I don't see why it wouldn't work for video as well?
@@NorfolkTraveller because this is not about stills and no camera in the consumer market except the new black magic pocket cinema camera 4k is capable of shooting RAW for video. Shooting flat for video is viable if the video codec is made for it like high bitrate 10 bit 4:2:2 or RAW. You wont get much out of it and destroy more than you gain if you have to use a low bitrate 8 bit consumer codec. Every consumer cam can shoot RAW for stills (which you should absolutely use), but very few consumer cams can shoot good video at this moment because of the dreadful codecs (exceptions are the panaconic gh5, the black magic pocket cinema camera 4k and the fujifilm xt-3)

However, my point really is... if a highly respected DP says to use a flat profile on a 5d3 then I’m using s flat profile on my 5d3 because he has years of pro experience and uses his eyes to judge the results. Having seen the footage that he’s produced, I’m very happy to trust his judgement :)
@@NorfolkTraveller Well, Philip Bloom can turn anything into something amazing (even crappy gopro footage). Sometimes, you want a DSLR for the small formfactor, but if you have a choice, then it's not advised if you are able to shoot on a better camera.
The good news is that with magic lantern you CAN shoot 10-12 bit raw video on a 5D mark ii or iii. But, even despite this, shooting in a flat profile is NOT the same thing as Log mode. Log has to do with how the information is stored against stops of light, so that they are stored in an anti-exponential curve that is sort of the antithesis of rec709. Since light doubles with every stop, if you record it in a truly linear profile, your brightest stop of light would take up half of the information recorded instead of 1/12-1/14 of your dynamic range as it should. The log curve basically pushes that back so that each stop of light takes up roughly 1/12 of a 12 stop dynamic range, etc. wheras a flat profile just decreases the contrast of low frequency detail which allows more HIGH frequency detail to be recorded in the highlights and shadows. So its not completely useless but if you push it too far it can look like shit.

After you install the Software from the Canon Solution Disk, the preference setting in the software should default to: "Start EOS utility automatically when the camera is connected". If that option is not selected, you may need to start the eos utility software manually from the Applications window and then set the preference to auto start. it should open as soon as a camera is connected to your computer. (I'm on a Mac).

It's not just the contrast,saturation settings that you can set in the camera. the C Log3 profile has a custom RGB curve that was designed to match the look of the CLog of the other professional Canon cameras, so that you can easily match the look. For example you can shoot with the 5D and the C300 and have a consistent look, and then apply the same LUTs in post
Like I've said to every tuber click baiting noobs when it comes to Log, there are fundamental differences between Log & Picture Profiles & sadly it takes the 3.15mark when you're actually honest about it... At least ur one of the few honest ones, so there's a kudo point there.. But by then, you've made your sales pitch & wasted ppls time... So yeah nah... Points revoked...
K, to the point... One reason 10 bit 422 log works & actually possible in these cameras, is that there's minimal colour detail in the actual file.. As there's no colour in the core stream, means there's space for higher colour depth from 8bit 420 to 10bit 422, with actual colour detail within the files metadata... That metadata, colourspace & the bitrate are what allow you to push that flat image into a punchy 10bit 422 graded image...
Whereas picture profiles, in the case of canon & the shit ur selling here, are LITERALLY baked in colour algorithms in 8bit 420... ITS NOT LOG!! It's not captured as log, it's not recorded in log bitrate or codec, it's not in log colourspace... There's nothing log about it... & it pisses me off that ppl profit on the noobs who know no better... & then ppl like me who have to fix real world f'ups caused by this misinformation... Smh
U can still squeeze & push colour, but you're not gna have as much elasticity in the process.
Now THIS PROFILE you're selling is NOT log.. Never was never will be. See above... Further, as it's a baked in colour algorithm, in an 8bit stream, you're going to be limited in what you can do with it & ur boosting colour in post is dependant on the algorithm within the plugins u use .. Some better than others..
So be careful how u sell this, coz i can tell you from experience, I've had ppl claim shit was shot in log, when in fact it's a badly calibrated colour profile... Like I said, they're VERY DIFFERENT ..

Do not shoot flat. It ruins your colors. That's why you end up having to pick bad skin tones, excessively low-contrast final product, unnatural colors, or switching to black-and-white as a last resort. CineStyle is not meant for what most people with Canon DSLRs are using it for. I know for magic lantern theres like a 1% chance of it bricking your camera and knowing my luck, i'd be that 1% lol thats the only reason why i havent gotten magic lantern on my cameras. if i have to pay for this i just want to make sure its safe. thanks!

Does this follow the same science as Cinestyle? I used that for a bit and the footage was way too grainy. Does this handle noise better?
Grab the marvel profile.. Its based on Cinestyle but tweaked... Cinestyle is only for a very sml & low range ISO window... That or simply dull down neutral & use that coz it's all still 8bit 420...regardless of what profile u use, & the more flat u have an 8bit file, as opposed to something kinda in between like a tweaked neutral or marvel profile , the easier it is on post, coz ur still only working with 8bit not 10bit, let alone 420 vs 422..

Download picture style editor from canon website. Set base picture style to 'neutral' sharpness 0, contrast -4, saturation -4, color tone -2, and below level just play ard, input 43 output 86. save it and installed to your camera.easy and FREE!

If you are having any trouble uploading the clogs to your 1dx mark ii or any other 1d series. Ill tell you what you have to do. Its quite a process if your firemware isnt up to date

Wrong with c-log you don't get better dynamic range you get more usable dynamic range compressed on 8 bit file to avoid banding specially on highlights and shadow.
Remember the basic rule you have learned at school: 1 stop 1 bit

Maybe if your photos are only outputted in jpeg so you need to get the maximum Dynamic Range baked in to the photo otherwise edit photo in RAW format as usual

You should change your title, or at least rethink disclosing that it isn't C-Log at the start rather than at the end of the vid.
I think he is getting paid on his link that he provides. Otherwise if it really is as simple as those 4 settings, why wouldn't he just tell us them instead? He would be that much more of a hero to all of us, for saving us all $10. So one of two things is going on... either there really is more than just the four settings being installed on your camera with the $10 dollar CLOG (maybe RBG settings as someone mentioned earlier), or he is getting paid everytime someone buys by clicking on his link. I would tend to think there really is more than just those 4 settings. Does anyone agree with my assessment"?
