Bonus tip for more minor stabilizing:
Warp stabilizer can sometimes give a better and more desired without reallly warping too much if you decrease down to 1-10 stabilizing.
If there is still warping, change mode to "only position" :)

To make a better stabilisation, track the background and not foreground
For the footage I shoot I was sitting here thinking the same thing. It's cool for his footage while walking and following Peter, but I would imagine in most cases this would be a better tip.

Thanks for this, great tutorial which saved me with a time-lapse of a sunset. It had lots of camera bumps and the only thing I had to track/stabilise was the sun!
literally just editing a wedding vid with some newly discovered shaky footage that is borderline about to destroy the final cut. Warp stabilizer just wasn't cutting it and wow I just came across your vid. Thanks Matti, been subscribed for awhile and its been great to see the maturation of the channel.

"Stabilize Motion" next to the "Motion Track" is easier to use for the same effect... (No need for 3D virtual camera or Null Object.)
I was thinking about trying that option instead. Not digging the result he got.

0:06 if this happens, also just lower the intensity of the warp stab effect ! It's at 50% by default but I often set it at 20%

If you've seen the latest "IT" film, the clown at the Lair scene with the girl, he's doing that weird sort of jive thing with his legs before he jumps towards her...THAT Look on the camera sort of looks like that AFX stabilization. It's pretty cool and has some creative uses for sure. Great video dude and congrats on 250k.

How can I stabilize my drone footage? Because my drone moves around and it’s flying around it thinks the whole footage is shaking or spinning.
I just want it to cut micro stutters but when it analyzes it just crops out the whole video

I was actually watching this the other day and thinking the exact same thing where they are running through the trees scene!
Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows movie also had a ton of motion blur included - even more disturbing effect. This is also seen in the Fight Club scene where the camera shakes from left-to-right and the main character's persona changes.

Thank you very much for carefully explaining the stabilizing process. It is straight forward once applied a few times and I've found that the size and shape of the area defined for tracking makes a big difference.

Setting your smoothness at 5% on warp stabilizer will reduce that jello-like thing in your footage.
Exactly. Sometimes I only set it to 2 or 3%, just to get the micro-jitters out. The default value of 50% is way overkill and will almost always look fake.
Davinci Resolve's stabilizer is super legit too. And FREE.

Another issue I face is when you use Warp Stabilizer you can't slow down. Am I doing something wrong in Premier Pro CC?
after using warp stabilizer just go and nest that clip
The Patels the way I overcome this is by doing this...- I first slow or speed up my clip. I then nest that clip and once that is done I apply the warp stabilizer on the nested clip. It doesn’t work so well if you go from 50% to 100% but I think it works well if you just nest a clip at one speed and then warp stabilize that.

You can - it takes a few extra steps - in PP you will need to create a subsequence after you do the warp stabilizer - its in the right-click menu on the clip. Then you can speed and slow down the or add other effects to the sequence that is now in your timeline. If you want to go back and adjust the original just double click on the subsequence clip and it will open up the clip in the sub timeline and you can mess with it more. It works more or less the same in AE its just called "nesting" there.

New technique (needs high fps) : slow down the video until the stabilisation looks good and yep that's all
yea, but what if you dont want a slow motion shot lol.... and slowing down doesnt make it stablised, it just looks smoother but not stabilised
Video stabilization is much-much faster in PowerDirector, real-time, zero waiting!
*Editing is not so nice there :-p

It does bite.
Tried the exact same steps described FOUR times and always came up with the exact same results: a nice selection box moving in the opposite direction of the tracking position, while the video remains sill in the middle with nothing changed.
Did you ever figure out why this is happening? I also followed his instructions to the letter and get the same results as you. Target moves but video remains still.
If you're still wondering, you need to set your FOOTAGE to be a 3D layer along with your null object. He just brushes over it at about 4:08 and doesn't say anything.
No, I made sure I did turn those cubes on (the 3d) on both my footage and the null object but for some reason the cloned part would be at a different location every time. I ended up having to put a motion tracker on the area I wanted to clone over, then on another track did the cloning, and then copied and pasted all the keyframes generated by the motion tracker layer into the layer with the cloned section. Again, at the beginning of the composition the cloned section would for some reason move to a different starting position, but if I moved it by hand and out it over the area I wanted to cover at the beginning of the timeline it tracked properly. I am still missing some setting/preset that send the cloned section to a different area for some reason.
Didn't get back on this reply soon enough. I tried this another time right after posting this comment, and it worked flawlessy. This is mi go-to reference video wehn I forget this neat trick. People think that I use a tripod or something when I record events. Thanks!

Little questiom, You are always talking about high end and 1000 euro + cameras, but what about 700d etc?

This technique crops in so you would already be at a disadvantage with a crop sensor body like the 700d but technically all these tricks would still work, just not as effective than a full frame body.
I haven’t used them in ages but I’m testing out a cheap camera right now

I have been wanting to try Premiere Pro also for a while now but everything seems so small and awkward coming from FCPX not to mention on my Mac it takes like 10 minutes to load/open.

Great tip. You can also matte out the foreground object in a precomp and then use warp stabilizer in your main comp. After the analize, you can go back to the precomp and shut the matte off. It works great in most situations.
