We fell for the same scam over 10 years ago in Thailand. They were asking for $600 for damage we didn’t make. It was quite a story, my husband almost went in to fight with one of those guys. We went to hotel, they followed us all the way.. and called the police. Police took my husband’s passport & said we’ll return it after you pay money to them. All I can say, police work with them and share their profit! We went to police station that was right, almost across from jet ski place (it was in Pattaya). I talked police offices down to $300, after long negotiations. But, I could see in his eyes, these dudes work together!! What a rotten, scambag culture. Maybe it’s a bit different now, but it put me off wanting to ever go back to this scam country.. If my husband would have fought that local, he’d be the one ending up in prison. Thanks to some tourist passer, who intervened in time, didn’t allow this to happen! There is no protections for tourists in this country. Do not fell for this crap!!

I called the tourist police, but the police turned out to be corrupt. The police said that if I didn't pay, they would take me to the police station. Dont get discouraged by one experience my friend. I too got scammed by a tuk-tuk driver the first time I went to Thailand: Overpriced genuine Thai massage shop, overpriced Thai Restraunt. But I did not let this experience hurt me. I did better research & didn't make the same mistake 2nd & 3rd time there. We learn from our mistakes..
jake The scam is , the tuk-tuk driver will tell you he will show you around the city or take you wherever you want all for 50-60Baht, or some other ridiculous price. (For Example, one tuk-tuk driver quoted me 150B to take me from Hua Lamphong railway station to Chinatown Yaoworat for 150B , this is ridiculous on the other end of the scale. Its only 1 mile away, and shouldn’t have to pay more than 50B max ! That’s what a local Thai would pay. ) With the “ cheap” tuk-tuk, You don’t know where he is taking you, but you trust him because it’s a good price, but he takes you to overpriced stores and gets a cut from it. Almost every Thai person will treat you as a walking ATM, and they feel like it’s their right to extract as much money out of you as possible. I actually found an Honest Tuk tuk driver, and he told me how it all works. He was actually nice enough to point out changes in the city and what has been developed lately. I paid him a fair price ( he let me set the price!) for him hanging out with me for 3.5 hrs and taking me to the places I want to see. I’ve got his number and will call him up next time I’m in Bangkok...

In this case, call the Thai tourist police (1155). Do not call the regular police, because they are usually involved in this type of scam as well.
Damn why it sounds like Vietnam

I stayed in Thailand 2 weeks and have encountered with Thai police , they seems to be nice and reasonable.
I like how they seem to be totally aware of these scams being talked about and showed online and that it is damaging the country's image, and then continues to perform the scam and most likely on a daily basis complains about less tourists/customers visiting the place

Thank you so much for the information!
Before every ride you usually are given a small insurance certificate to sign which covers a percentage of the damage. Always call the tourist police or avoid riding jet skis at all.
Franks bettas ,they have no such insurance on that beach with the JetSki operators I think they actually pray that something does happen to there jet skis it just means more money for them, some tourists don’t know what they are doing. James Lane Went to Patong for the first time last month. Never again. The place stinks and you get harassed from morning till night time.
OkinInc The key to Pattaya is to stay in southern Jontiem Beach, a 15 min Baht bus ride from central Pattaya. A clean, uncrowded beach. No touts/jet-ski. good hotels and restaurants directly across from the beach. A more relaxed vibe.
Go to the Philippines for real smile.

A thousand dollars is expensive for the repair? Are you a jet ski specialist?
Never going Thailand with those scammers

Dont get discouraged by one experience my friend. I too got scammed by a tuk-tuk driver the first time I went to Thailand: Overpriced genuine Thai massage shop, overpriced Thai Restraunt. But I did not let this experience hurt me. I did better research & didn't make the same mistake 2nd & 3rd time there. We learn from our mistakes..
what kinda scam ?
@@paulsz6194 agreed my friend
jake The scam is , the tuk-tuk driver will tell you he will show you around the city or take you wherever you want all for 50-60Baht, or some other ridiculous price.
Lol i love how you keep recording anyway...awesome.
....and they wonder why tourist numbers are dropping!

@@vaarun3694.....hello Vaarun, I agree of course it is....it all depends on the individual experience you have to reflect on...however the numbers don't lie and Bangkok has moved up numerous places in the "most expensive cities to live" charts and the cost of living has increased dramatically in Thailand in recent years...the (falsely) strong Thai baht, along with other problems like import tax, pollution, health and safety issues, traffic jams, dangerous roads, tourist scams etc only exacerbates the problems of falling tourist numbers and increases the problems inherent in an economy that has a significant (and non-improving) wealth gap, meaning the people least able to cope with this increased cost of living are hit the hardest....you have your individual experience and opinion but the facts are there for you to read in numerous reports
40 million tourists per year in Thailand just read that in paper

Don’t generalise a country for its flaws. Just make better choices, walk away and go find other areas.
Always take before and after photos of rentals. Me and some buddies rented mopeds in Koh Phangan and they tried to say we caused damage upon the return. They demanded money, however, we showed them the pics and the damage was clearly already on the mopeds before. So he gave up. I’ve heard to never rent a jet-ski in Thailand. They cover the bottom with gel coating to hide previous damage. It comes off while you’re riding, and once you return it looks like you caused the damage...Thailand is full of scams to take advantage of westerners. Don’t be afraid to stand up to them.
