  • This is another cabride video but this is an Limited A service so we made different stops then my other trains I recorded. This engineer was so good with blowing the horn compared to my last few trains so it was so fun listening. I hope you enjoy it and PLEASE like and subscribe if you haven't yet and if you liked the video!!

    (And I commend you for electrification. :-) )

    • @ckildegaard
      @ckildegaard ปีที่แล้ว

      The "ditch lights" flash as required by law/regulations to help warn people who may be near the tracks. They're also usually active with the horn or bell is being sounded. The multiple signal lights are too allow for numerous potential signal indications. I'm not familiar with the specifics

    • @adamstahl3948
      @adamstahl3948 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ckildegaard Thank you for the clarification, we don't know that here in Europe. We use similar flashing signals rather to warn of an oncoming train (sign 'stop, stop by all means', flashing upper light and lower right red light).

    I am curious. Any idea why the train switched to the opposite running track?

    • @BayAreaTrackside
      @BayAreaTrackside  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's due to single tracking, it's when they're doing construction near tracks so trains have to run on only one side of the track

    Hi there from Australia. I had so many questions but glad I read through the comments and picked up some answers. Thanks for Station names. What station was just before Belmont?
    Obviously a lot of upgraded track and ballast and tags or sleepers?
    At New Hillsdale were the viaducts fairly new...formerly lower level with level crossings?
    What is the speed limit for cars on that freeway near San Bruno? They were certainly moving!
    Bayshore was that the only station with a (lift)elevator?
    Be good to do another video when all the catenary and wires are done, even with the electric "pullers" hehe.
    Is Caltrain privately owned or Government?
    Very first overhead power I have seen on US railways. Used to the third (power) rail etc.
    Sorry for all the questions, it could have been a lot worse, had I not checked the comments first, hehe.

    • @ckildegaard
      @ckildegaard ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't have answers to most of these as I'm not too familiar with Caltrain's trackage, but I can say that Caltrain is governed by a "Joint Powers Board" made up of the governments in the counties it serves. The actual engineers ("drivers" to the rest of the world, I guess) and conductors are from a private company contracted to run the system.

      Yes, this is the original alignment. I used to ride along here starting in the mid-60s (when we moved to San Mateo). Just north of San Bruno there used to be a branch line heading out to Tanforan Park and, I think, as far as Daly City (maybe not quite that far). All industrial, of course, although I think there would be passenger trains back in the days when there was still a racetrack there.
