Drew please let Amy know that as someone from the desert from Libya which has the biggest portion of the biggest desert in the world the Sahara desert, the part right after the plane crash in the desert is abolsutely my favorite part. Especially since I could drive a couple of hours to be in the desert like Drake. Not to mention how realistically they portrayed it with Nathan going around in circles, because if you're not trained in navigating the desert you would absolutely get lost like him. This is why UC3 is my favorite of the entire series!

Okay, Drake not picking up supplies after the plane crash, and not even getting a chance to drink and rest a little after barely surviving the baking heat of the Rub’al Khali desert has been my one real frustration with this game from the very first time I played it.
Listening to Amy honestly assess exactly that and lament not having the time or budget or retcon-god powers to fix that one specific thing?
Direct proof of one of the many reasons she’s so great. She’s constantly thinking and looking to improve, without being tortured or dramatic about it!

Started as an artist, worked her way up ended up writing and directing the Legacy of Kain series and Jak and Daxter series which are both legendary in their own right. Uncharted may stand as her greatest achievement in gaming as it set so many bars for what an action game should be and rivals most major motion pictures in its storytelling . I've gotten so used to seeing Richard McGonagle in every episode that he's become a series regular at this point. He's a great guy that compliments Nolan North quite nicely. They have some amazing chemistry that definitely shines through. On the plus side, the legendary Amy Hennig is here to enlighten people with her knowledge and intelligence. She's essentially the cool school teacher that can I listen to for hours without ever getting bored. Uncharted 3 Drake's Deception was the final Uncharted game that released for the PS3 back in 2011 and it was one of the earlier titles that I picked up when I bought my PS3 at the time. There will always be a special place for it in my heart. Then again, I can say that for every entry in the Uncharted series. I feel like there is less criticism about the desert like Amy said. I think the bigger derailment is Yemen to the desert cause the whole cruise ship scene is entirely pointless and exists mostly for a nice setpiece but from a story standpoint it’s really bad.
I also just found the discovering of the Iram of Pillars just came out of nowhere. Like you are in a sandstorm and then literally there it was just one of those wtf moments unlike the amazing building of Shambalya.
Still love all the Uncharted games but 3 had the most jarring story. Lots of cool moments but also lots of head scratching moments. It’s nice that Amy acknowledges the 2 year turnaround as a real problem.

Love this commentary by Amy Hennig. I wish more games had developer commentary modes in them. They are a really interesting look at the design decisions developers make.

I played this bit for a the first time a few weeks ago and this whole sequence is great. Previously even when Drake has been in danger, he's faced it with a wink and a smile. This bit puts him at a low point in his heroes journey and makes him feel vulnerable in a way we haven't seen. It's great story telling - they nailed the feeling of being in a vast, vast desert. Highlight of the game.

Always a pleasure having Amy on! Learn something new each time, hah. For what it's worth, the desert was brilliant! Much needed breather after the airport bit. Nate may not have gotten a win with the water, but at least Nolan got a sort of win with not being murdered in the desert, heh.

I still think to this day, that desert scene is one of the great moments in video game history.

Watching this again is making me want to replay this part. It was so hard to play. Reminded me of what being in a desert situation is like ... the Pinnacles in West Australia was enough for me! 😆 Such a great addition to the game, it was so immersive, really made me feel horrible watching/playing as Drake struggling through it. Thank you all so much. 🙏🏽 I enjoy these games immensely and will never get bored watching/playing them over & over. 😊

Leave it to Amy to be the first to mention "grenade throwbacks", I was wondering when someone was going to bring up the free grenade give-aways 😉 great ep, love the desert sequence, especially the plane part and crash is still so cool. The bit where Nate gets suck out the plane and flies towards the cargo is bonkers.

I never had any complains about the desert section. It did a great job at showing how rough is Rub' al Khali. I remember Uncharted 3 and Journey had some of the best looking sand back in 2011-12 and I couldn't get enough of it.

I always thought the dessert bit from the plane crash to the village was a really beautiful part of the uncharted series, it gets super cinematic and I just really love it. Especially the part at 14:00, its just so gorgeous that you almost forget you can move Drake around just like Nolan did. Great to hear from Amy again and good job Nolan for getting through this part. I think the area where you have to blow up the gate took me more tries than him.
