I don't really see any ability that could fit with someone like Leonidas except higher physical attributes, and he is not a bad character, the whole fight he goes through a character arc of respecting Apollo but still staying true to himself that is a warrior that doesn't stop fighting which is what he did after his shield got destroyed and punched Apollo in the face with no Valkyrie active (he did no critical damage but wen you see the panel Apollo has a bruise) he stayed true in being a spartan, it sucks a bit he doesn't have a spear but i can see why they decided a shield cause already a lot of characters use spears plus makes him more unique for having a shield as the main weapon
I think it came more down to the fact that Many people thought he nay be the final fighter for humanity to go up against Odin and the authors wanted to do a twist and have him go sooner
Agreed, on top of this, he this design was kinda ass in historical depictions leonidas has a infamous spartan helmet but that is nowhere to be found here

While it was disappointing, I think it was a great reminder that we, as the readers, shouldn’t set expectations on the future of the story. And that fits in thematically since this was the “battle of expectations”
A king being flawed and losing could've worked really well, but that would require the fight to actually be a more close match and desperate. Kinda like Qin, even though he won we at least saw how incredibly desperate he was to win during the end when he brought out his sword.
I think if the ending was just Leonidas just pummelling Apollo before he shatters it would have been a 10/10 thats all they had to do, and they still fumbled.
Yeah, they rushed through his battle. No spear is crazy. His shield could of been bigger and you would of thought he would of been better prepared for Apollo's abilities.
I was a bit surprised over how short this fight was because most of them are a lot longer, however I did still enjoy the fight even if it’s not popular. I also really liked Leonidas even though he’s not what people expected, I wish the fight had been a little better and longer - if I had to guess it was probably made shorter in an attempt to finish the tournament quicker - it’s the only explanation I can think of as to why the fight was shorter than the others. Either way, thanks for the update👍🏻
This fight was so dumb, how can you make every character in histrory op but not Leonidas? Leonidas was a spartan, a master of warfare.. yet we see him as undisciplined, irrational and not able to be versatile, nor capable to go hand to hand with Apollo.. most disappointing fight so far
They did him dirty and was killed off just because the author wanted to make the japanese figure Okita Souji have a rigged victory otherwise the tournament ends.
I think it would of been interesting if the match had a theme of humility and pride. In the beginning the reader gets the impression that Apollo is yet another arrogant high and mighty god who sees himself as a flawless being when that can’t be further from the truth. They should have leaned into that with Leonidas but with more emphasis on masculinity rather than beauty. When we are introduced to him his men are pushing themselves to the absolute limited doing insanely brutal workouts while he is just laying on a hammock relaxing and reading, when he’s told its his turn he refuses to go and says he’ll only fight as the opener or the closer until Brunhilde manipulates him into going next when she mentions Apollo is the god he’s fighting. Perhaps all these years of being in the after life he’s grown complacent believing he’s not only he is the mightiest king of the mightiest people and no one can stand against Sparta but also he sees himself as better than the gods when he smashes the Apollo statue and calls the oracles idiots for believing in a deity they can’t even see. And so he struggles in the beginning of the fight, charging headstrong only for Apollo to dodge his every attack with ease until he nerfs himself and draws the ring which greatly damages the Spartans pride. After being tied up and told to kneel he lands a crushing headbutt to Apollo breaking his nose and from then on Leonidas’s ego is finally broken and becomes the true master military tactician he is, using smoke grenades to block Apollo’s vision when firing arrows and use to opportunity for a sneak attack. Leonidas’s unique ability is his durability that allows his body to withstand even the mightiest blows from Apollo and his scorching arrows that would otherwise burn his flesh off, his cigars also have a special herb that helps him resist the pain. After years of endless training and battle Leonidas became the toughest soldier and the strongest king in all of Greece just like Apollo, the battle is a clash between egos, two men who hate each other but learn to respect each over as rivals to the bitter end.
It's not the best and has it flaws but I still like this fight. Leonidas has one heck of an arua and moments/dialogue that freaken slap. I'd say Im upset we didn't see a spear only if Odin doesn't use his which is why I think Leonidas got a different weapon which I still enjoy cuz he can change the weapon to adapt to different situation, what you would want as a military man, something that can adapt to cover your weaknesses or take advantage of your opponents

Fr. I would love to see Leo have all of Qin’s abilities but reversed. Like instead of seeing the stars and feeling other peoples pain physically like Qin Leo could be someone who can basically hit someone so hard that they convince themselves they were more damaged than they actually were, like imagine if Leo a human punched a god and the god convinced themselves that since Leo was so certain of himself that the punch COULD injure them and so the god’s nose bleed spontaneously
i honestly hope that if they introduce sun tzu they will match him against ares and i hope the fight will actually be close and not like this disapointment
Sadly reminded me a lot of the Lu bu vs thor fight. Was never even close, only point was to stick it to the gods. In that aspect i liked Leonidas, given it seems they strive to kinda display the various reasons for the humans to fight and fightng against gods or fate is one, that sadly does not end well it seems.
Spartans are strong because they fight together, not alone. Spartans are use to usual war tactics, not unconventional fighting. Leonidas & his 300 Spartans lost in the end. This was a bad mismatch
There is a smaller theme here of adaptation. Apollo has to keep changing fighting styles because Leonidas keeps countring him. Outboxing wasnt doing much, better grab the strings. Strings got countered by a headbut and apollo took a massive hit, better switch to the bow. Bow got countered, make yourself the arrow, and it still came down to the classic RoR 50/50. Even then, Leonidas still could have counter-attacked him but stopped at the last second. No matter what apollo did, leonidas was there with the counter. I think he deserves more credit, the fight was closer than it seemed.

i mean they could have atleast had apollo getting attacked untill leonidas was totally restoryed showing the human spirit and the spartan unwillingness to give up instead he just fell apart

@@lockjaw2938 1.) I think it’s because Leo hits where that devastating or B Apollo exerted himself trying to break through Leo defense or C Both 2.) Leo lost due to match up. I’m not trying to me mean to anyone I’m open to discourse but the sheer amount of stupidity I’m seeing in these comments is baffling. First on going on his design I think he looks hype and it’s an interesting idea on what would happen if a spartan had access to modern military clothes and rather then trying to understand hey this is a new take on Leonidas you’d rather him be another generic Spartan. Don’t get me wrong I love the look of Leonidas as a spartan but it makes sense for his character a military commander to wear military clothes. Next I see people complain about him using a shield and I’m must say are being serious right now? A huge and I mean HUGE part of a Spartans identity is their shield. Yes they use spears but thier main weapon is their shield taking away a Spartans shield is like taking the wheels off your car and driving. On top of that Spartans use other weapons besides the spear they use, swords, bows, javelins, axes and etc. You don’t know what you’re talking about so stop complaining about it. Lasty with the notion that Leonidas should’ve fought Zeus I strongly disagree with because it would make no sense story wise what would Leonidas get from fighting Zeus when Apollo was the one who perverted him from mobilizing his full army against Persia which resulted in his death yes I agree it would have been cool but I’m content with the fight we got. Even by the end the both fighters acknowledging each other especially with Apollo calling both the Leonidas and the Valkyrie beautiful while holding them both as they die it shows you real beauty doesn’t come from looks it comes from within.
Well said bro i tired of this complaints bro imagined working hard as a mangaka working a whole year without rest and you get this complaints plus some even complaints they should turn it into mythical accurate like tf seeing this all Gods co exist is already set the tone they're just borrowed from different mythical stories to create new one
Everything about this was shitty. His character, his weapon, his story even his matchup. Nothing takes from my mind that apolo should have fought Simo Haya as both are ranged, Leonidas should have fought Odin or Anubis and he should have his spear and shield and his classic atire not that stupid Beyblade and american general clothes.
Honestly o don’t see an issue with this fight. Some humans have to fail simple as that. Man fought his heart out but was just out matched there has to be some stops in this series.
He looks like a resident evil character aka Chris RedField. I was expecting the actual 300 king leonidas looking badass and a real spartan not this lazy design.
I think you can never say a charachter was disappointing i mean there fighting gods like even luu bu was extremely powerful like normal humans aren’t doing the shit there doing
Pretty big spoiler for those who watch the anime like myself and not read the manga. The title gives away the biggest spoiler of the show for anything before that. There are times when spoiling stuff is ok but this case isn't it.
I’m a casual fan. I just pop in when the rounds are done and watch the fights, but I actually really enjoyed this fight sure Leonidas could’ve done more but we’ve already had a bunch of spear fights and I don’t think we needed another one. Plus him taking damage and persevering with the shield, feels on character for Leonidas, I think the author went for more an emotional strength instead of a physical one which is an interesting way to go about it. Regardless I still enjoyed this fight and thought it was pretty good 7/10 🫡

3.) It could be respect (I know farfetch) that Leo was able to land a hit while Apollo was from afar making him think he should atleast pay the respect back in fighting Leo (It could also just be the fact that Leo try to sneak attack him earlier so Apollo got back by far ranging him
4.)Likely the military design since spartan will keep advancing that means adapting all though I doubt Leo knows how to use a gun or grenades like ours
i feel that rasputin will fight for the Gods just like Budha fought for humanity
King SELLER
Dude was overhyped that the writer decided to lazy out and kill him.
He still ain’t Lu Bu 😮
@@Mafuba946 don't worry, the failed warrior will get his turn
Killed off just to rig Okita Souji's victory, no joke i like this manga less and less with each fight
why'd they make him some half assed big boss
Could never be my glorious King Qin Shi Huang
Truly
This is the worst fight in the entire series
Even by the end the both fighters acknowledging each other especially with Apollo calling both the Leonidas and the Valkyrie beautiful while holding them both as they die it shows you real beauty doesn’t come from looks it comes from within.
people say he should have faced Zeus? First time i've heard that
@@mysteriousweeb mb I meant to say Odin
I’m going to my corner now
Well said bro i tired of this complaints bro imagined working hard as a mangaka working a whole year without rest and you get this complaints plus some even complaints they should turn it into mythical accurate like tf seeing this all Gods co exist is already set the tone they're just borrowed from different mythical stories to create new one
@ all good bro, you made fair points
glad he lost, the author DID NOT cook with the design or with anything about this fight in general
WHERE THE HELL IS THE SPEAR?????? THIS IS NOT LEONIDAS !!!!
They turned my most anticipated character into a jobber. Disappointing.
E FAILED UMANITY THAT E DID, MUCH LUV FROM GREAT BRITANNIA
I think you can never say a charachter was disappointing i mean there fighting gods like even luu bu was extremely powerful like normal humans aren’t doing the shit there doing
FGO Leonidas is better than this and he's a 2*
Pretty big spoiler for those who watch the anime like myself and not read the manga. The title gives away the biggest spoiler of the show for anything before that. There are times when spoiling stuff is ok but this case isn't it.
Can you please stop making the titles as spoilers you have ruined 2 fights for me
I’m a casual fan. Regardless I still enjoyed this fight and thought it was pretty good
7/10 🫡
Even though Leonidas had better potential, he is still one of my favorite characters in ROR.
