Ciao is used to say either hello or bye bye, so we use it when we meet someone or when we're leaving. Italian language lesson 1 😂
Moreover, ciao becomes from the dialet of Venetian republic when the used the word “sciao” meaning “slave”. It was supposed to say “I’m at your disposal” or your “servant”. Then it becomes a common Italian word (well known around the world) when you met a person.

This was the song I REALLY wanted Italy to send to Eurovision this year! I know Mahmood and Blanco won Sanremo with "Brividi", and normally whoever comes first there then gets sent to Eurovision, but this one time I would have preferred "Ciao ciao" to be sent. It's funky, catchy, retro and yet so contemporary - and the perfect ear-worm for the ESC. Straight after Sanremo, La Rappresentante di Lista tweeted that they were interested in representing San Marino at Eurovision - and for a moment I was really hopeful they would go to Eurovision after all. Unfortunately, I think it was too late for them to apply, so another Italian singer will end up representing San Marino in May - Achille Lauro, with his song "Stripper". Oh well... here's to hoping La Rappresentante di Lista will have another opportunity next year - they're brilliant!

Thank you for reacting to La rappresentante di lista. The song is actually ironic, portraying people partying while climate change is bringing about the end of the world. And they mention world war as well, which is what is actually going on right now. It's a song about people being indifferent and partying on and making dance routines on social media despite all these catastrophes around them. How appropriate 😥😥
I thought about this earlier today whilist listening to it. The lyrics that struck me specifically were : "In città è scoppiata la guerra mondiale" (in town a world war has just burst out) How freaking realistic and freaking scary too! I was like "she's a psychic"!!! It'S EXACLY WHAT'S GOING ON

I see that many are asking our English friend to react to Irama’s song, Ovunque Sarai. I agree that is a great song much more closer to the melodic Italian tradition. The lyric is very sad, its about his dead grand mother. About the Italian language once you learn how to pronounce the alphabet you can already read Italian words correctly even without knowing their meaning. Italian is probably the most phonetic language in the world.
The whole song is perfect but the bridge is a real killer - it reminds me of the best Giorgio Moroder + Donna Summer years (I Feel Love).

Man, don't come here in August or July, though. You will melt, especially in the South (where the Amalfi Coast is). June is probably the best month: nice weather and the beaches aren't too full since most Italians go on holiday in July/August. But tbh the Amalfi Coast is pretty busy from as early as April, especially Amalfi, Positano and Praiano.
