    We had a great little Jet Black Chihuahua named Toro when I was a child. I've always wanted very much to get one but I've seen so much terrible behavior, so... NO. But now you have helped me understand where all that bad behavior comes from! It's the reaction to bad handling from people who don't understand that very unique little breed! You've changed my mind! I'm getting a colorful longhair... or two! And in preparation I will be doing much study, so thank you so very much for all your hard work. (ps. I believe they absolutely do know how small they are! That's the whole point of their tough guy attitude. They know how tiny they are so what other choice do they have when confronted by conceived threats, overwhelming circumstances or mishandling? If tiny dogs are going to survive in a big dog world (for centuries) they had better act tough. They are bluffing. And darn good at it.

    My chihuahua stops and doesn't want to move when I pull him closer to me if there are other people coming in our direction. He seems to not understand that he needs to 'share' the pavement with others. 😄

      My baby is 3 months old,
      And we had to get a size small and modify by sewing the pieces to make them shorter, while retaining the ability to return it back to it's original size when she gets bigger.
      It was fitting PERFECTLY---
      UNTIL I left it on my little stinker overnight to get used to it,
      AND SHE CHEWED THE DARN THING OFF IN FIVE PLACES!😳😳😳😳😳😳🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
      Kelly, what do I do now?🤔🤔🤔🤔😂😂😂😂😂

    The first time I put a harness on my baby she flopped around on the floor like a fish out of water. I’ll never forget the sight. It took time and patience, but now she’s a pro. We go on walkies everyday! I enjoyed this video very much!

    • @SweetiePiePets
      @SweetiePiePets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Amy Spencer 😂 that’s so funny you brought that up. I put a harness on Sabrina for the forst time last week and she immediately began obsessively doing circle spins trying to bite the tail end of the harness to get it off. I redirected her right away because I don’t want that to be her habit. We got the treats out and piled the positive reinforcement on her and she quit doing that within a few short minutes. I wish I had recorded it. She’s walking around gladly with her harness on now.
      Did you do any exercises to help your little sweetie pie accept the harness?

    my chihuahua pulls the leash all the time while walking! he's restless and we cant even put the harness on him without some fight. will try to leave him with the harness on for a few days.

    • @SweetiePiePets
      @SweetiePiePets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      jounouchi123 I think that’s a great idea. Another idea is to give him some super good treats ONLY when he’s wearing the harness. I would practice that every day for a few weeks and see if his distain for the harness improves. Harness on, immediate treat. If you always do it in that order, he’ll soon learn to associate the harness with treats and he’ll likely WANT to put it on. Make sure not to give him even one bite of treat unless he’s wearing that harness. Harness time = treat time! Hopefully, soon he’ll LOOOOVE that harness 🙏🏻 😂

      Amazon xs. Look for the harness that you get the measurements.
      www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07L86TH8B/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_G90TEbKZ8JKC4.
      I got this one/ all the colours for my baby boy Link the chihuahua.
      It is nice and light. Breathable and with the velcro you can make it much tighter.
      He really doesn't mind wearing it at all. I think he shows off in it. I got him use to wearing it in the house at 8 weeks old. Now he is 14 weeks it fits lovely with plenty of room as I make sure I can get a finger under. Xxx
      Very easy to put on. It's like he just walks into it hehe.
      Love it. Xxx
      Oh and if it's a cold day he can wear a lil top over it as it's not bulky at all an you get the lead with it.
      100% recommend. So much safer than the strap harnesses that seem to choke an wiggle out of. 😍😍😍😍

    Hi! At what age do you recommend to start walking your chihuahua? We have an 11 weeks old chihuahua and she loves being outside, but does not like to put on her collar🫢 not at all🙈 but when its on she doesnt mind wearing it and loves her trips. But I’ve been thinking; is she too young still to go for walks ….? Thank you so much for your videos

    • @SweetiePiePets
      @SweetiePiePets  ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend waiting to taking them out in public areas until after they’ve received all of their puppy vaccines. Before that time they’re susceptible to Parvo and other deadly puppy diseases. In the meantime, it’s great to get her used to the collar or harness by wearing in around the house. Practice multiple times a day putting it in, then rewarding her greatly with praise and tiny treats and let her wear it around for an hour or so before taking it off. Soon she will learn that putting on her collar / harness is a good thing ❤️

    I just brought my baby home. She’s 13 weeks and still gets upset with wearing a harness. She looks so sad and pitiful when I put it on and even starts walking backwards in circles thinking that will get it off. 😄

    • @SweetiePiePets
      @SweetiePiePets  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s best to start early in harness training. 13 weeks isn’t too late but may require more effort to make her feel comfortable in her harness. Just keep it positive and give her treats or some other favorite thing every time she puts it on. Best of luck

    Wee Mila. 💖 She's a star 🌟. In the UK it's the Law that your dog is microchipped,AND is wearing a collar with an ID tag when you take them in public. I'm bad for just letting Dempsey have a sniff fest when we walk from here to the bus stop and he has about 5 million wees but he's not too bad when we are crossing roads and walking past shops atc. He will wait but not sit when we stop at the kerb. He's so tiny that people laugh at him!😲 and tell me I have a tiny dog. I'm so glad when that happens. Imagine if I hadn't noticed?! 😂 Gawjus to see you. Take good care. 💖

    We just brought home our chihuahua puppies and they’re 2 months now. Should we expose them outside already?

    • @SweetiePiePets
      @SweetiePiePets  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend waiting until 2 weeks after their final vaccination before taking them outside. Parvovirus can live in the dirt without a host and expose an unvaccinated puppy. Safest to wait until after all 3 puppy shots.

    U R Definitely the Queen of Chihuahua’s! 💕 This vid is very informative especially the being nice part! 👍
    For some reason u would think they’re a dog why would it be so hard to “leash train”? But it is true! They are more frightened of the leash bc it’s heavy, they do get used to getting picked up since they were lil babies. So if course they’ll get scared 😟
    💕 It did take my CoCo at least 2 mos. I did try the regular collar bc I didn’t know. Then switched to harness with 2wks it supports her. They feel more secure & if u have another dog sometimes or works faster! 💕

    • @SweetiePiePets
      @SweetiePiePets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes!!! Chihuahuas can be supper stubborn. Here's what I recommend. First off, don't try to walk him just yet. Simply put the harness on and let him walk around on his own several hours a day like that. He needs to get used to the feeling. Then, after a week or so, add the leash to the harness. But still don't try to walk him or hold him. Just let him drag the leash around behind him for several hours a day for a week or so. Use some high value treats such as tiny pieces of chicken and have him walk toward you with the leash on. Still don't hold it. Praise him verbally and with a treat every time he comes to you. After a few weeks of this, he'll be used to the harness, the weight of the leash, and he'll know treats and praise are involved with this game. THEN pick up the leash in your right hand and keep the treats in the left hand. Simply practice having him walk a few steps toward the hand with the treats. Don't pull the leash at all. Let him come to you on his own. Practice this exercise 5-10 minutes daily for a week or so. By this time, he should stop resisting as much because he will view it as a fun activity that involves praise and treats. As he gets better at it, you can practice actually walking with him for a few steps . . . again, praise and treats. Keep the treats really tiny so he doesn't get fat in the process. 😂Be super patient and let me know how it goes. 🙏

    Awesome way to train chihuahuas! I've never thought about this before, and I'm definitely going to try this when I get my puppy. Speaking of which, do you know if there are breeders who have chihuahuas during this period of time (pandemic)? I've called many breeders and their dogs were all adopted.

      @SweetiePiePets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hope Zhang 😱 it’s crazy - all the breeders AND shelters are out of puppies right now. At least all those I’ve talked to. It’s an excellent time to get a puppy while everyone has to stay at home anyway. I unfortunately don’t know any breeders with puppies available at the moment. I should be having litters later this year. 🙏🏻 Good luck to you in your search. Be so careful because there are a lot of scammers out there. Let me know if you have questions when you start your search or if you find a website you’re not sure is a scam, please don’t hesitate to send me the link so I can look into it. I would just keep working with her and maybe start the walk in the countryside with the friend's dogs and walk toward the roads and reward her more and more the closer she gets to the road. Hopefully if the friend's dogs keep walking on the road, she will too. If she's unable to overcome that fear, well, at least they're not too heavy to carry. It's more important to make her feel secure than to force her to do something she's really afraid of. Praise her for overcoming even the tiniest fear.

    When my mum passed on I took on being Charlie Chihuahua's guardian angel and in his 10 years he'd never walked on a lead and he took to walking on a collar and a lead with zero issues, very clever little critters they are.
    He also loves riding in the cargo crate on the motorbikes and the zero turn lawn mower.

    Little Mila reminds me of a mix of my little angels I had. The apple head like my Sully had and the thick body like my Chi had. Eventually I want to get another chihuahua when the time seems right.

      EpicCuteness04 ❤️ yes, absolutely. I can’t imagine my life without my sweetie pies 😍 Good luck to you and when you start your search, be so careful because there are tons of scammer websites popping up everywhere. My puppy is 3 -1/2 months old now, at what age can I start introducing the leash? I already have her used to wearing the harness.👍

    • @SweetiePiePets
      @SweetiePiePets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jamie Braxton good questions. once she’s has plenty of practice and is used to wearing the harness, you can go ahead and add the leash. Usually I let them wear the harness every day for at least a week before adding the leash but each puppy will be different. It’s not as much an age issue is it is just going at whatever pace they are comfortable with. If she’s doing great with the harness already, go ahead and move on to the next step. 👏🏻🐶❤️ good luck to you and your sweetie pie 💕

    What size do you think will fit a 1.5lb chihuahua?

      Heather Jones you would need to get a weasel harness for a dog that small.

      Yeah some chihuahuas do not like the feeling of a leash, you can try buying a harness for them to see if they would be more comfortable with that

    Love your videos! Do you have any advice on how to feed my 1.9 10 week old puppy that NEVER wants to? No matter what I do he just wants to squirm away and play play play play

    • @SweetiePiePets
      @SweetiePiePets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much, Luna. Love you too ❤️OMG so your boy never wants to eat? He only wants to play? Yikes, that sounds like it could eventually end in hypoglycemia if you're not careful. So yes, I have some suggestions. First off, make sure he has a little area that's all his own. Either a kennel or a crate or a playpen and always keep his food bowl and water bowl in the crate along with his bed and maybe one chew toy.
      Establish this little area as his den. He will eventually love it!. His den is not where play time is had. It's where he rests, relaxes, rejuvenates, and eats and he needs to be on a regular schedule of being closed inside his den alone for 1-2 hours at a time, several times times throughout the day. He should sleep in there at night too, unless you're training him to sleep with you which is totally understandable if you are 😍If he's not used to being in a crate, he'll likely whine at first, but once he gets used the routine and learns that crate time means he'll be in there for a little while, likely he will stop asking to be let out and accept his rest and meal time.
      To keep track of how much he's eating, only add a small amount of hard kibble in his bowl at once. Start with like 10 pieces of hard kibble and keep counting them to see if he's eaten any. A tiny dog like that doesn't require a lot of calories. Likely he only eats about 5-10 pieces at one time and then an hour later eat anouther 5-10 pieces. Some puppies are grazers so they just grab little pieces of food here and there throughout the day, just enough to keep them going so just keep an eye on how much he's consuming and refill it as needed - so long as he's eating every few hours.
      But, if he won't eat hard kibble at all, then for now you just need to get some sort of calories down him. I recommend to boil some chicken with no seasoning and cut it into tiny pieces and add to the hard kibble. If he still won't eat that, try some canned puppy food. Anything just to get some calories down him. If he refuses everything, give him Nutri-Cal and take him to the vet.
      But I don't think it's a vet that he needs. Seems to me like he's just a happy boy who's distracted with FOMO and needs to have scheduled "rest" times in his den so he remembers to slow down, take a nap, and eat some food.
      🙏
      I hope that helps.

      Sweetie Pie Pets she would be excited to leave but wants to get back in ASAP! 😂 so we practiced this morning before going to the marina and she just dragged me anyway. It didn’t matter... so you’re right, I just have to be more patient.

    hi..how old should a chihuahua start to learn how to leash? I have almost 3 month old chihuahua and I have work also but I want to teach my baby on leash and potty too every weekend..by the way, my baby so naughty and always biting..

    • @SweetiePiePets
      @SweetiePiePets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would go ahead and start now just having her learn to wear the harness around. Don't attach a leash yet, just let her get used to the feel of the harness. Keep it super positive and upbeat and maybe a few treats ONLY while she's wearing the harness so that she learns to enjoy wearing it. Be consistent, a few minutes every day and she'll eventually get used to the harness. THEN add a leash and let her drag it around for a few minutes every day until she's used to THAT sensation. It generally takes several weeks of consistency for each step and then they eventually get it. I wish you the very best.
      Biting is naughty. Did you watch my video on that? th-cam.com/video/9mZ2prSKV9s/w-d-xo.html
