Both approaches are valid. In general I don't like rushing knights against China because due to the barbican + strong TC you don't get to pressure their wood/food, and they don't really need to collect taxes. I also don't think the knight is fast enough to delay barbican. They can also place their second TC rather defensively. Maybe depending on the spawn you can open knight, if you feel like you can really get anything done with them.

Why is it better to go 2tc without knight?
With 1 knight, you could've prevented/delayed Barbican and 2tc?
