Very important: Get your house/dwelling in order before you leave. At least this is what we do. Clean sheets on our bed, bed made, no laundry, take out all trash, be sure your pets/animals are taken care of, no dirty dishes, take recycles out, leave your dwelling neat and tidy, kitchen counters organized.

Pharmacist here! It’s always a good idea to take some extra meds with you. Even if it’s too early to refill usually the pharmacy team can request a vacation override for an early fill. You just have to let them know you’re traveling.

Great List! I would add bringing a good-sized carry-on bag in case your luggage is misplaced or lost! Our cruise ship lost our luggage and actually put it on the wrong ship!! It was TERRIBLE!! We had no clothes, no toiletries, etc. most of our trip. I will always pack an extra bag with at least 2 days of clothes, undergarments, swimsuits, a nice outfit, extra shoes, etc. Don't let this ruin your trip as it did ours!!

  • @DonLekei

Great list. I would add two (1): Make sure you have all of your documents in the cloud. If you miss your ship at port or otherwise get separated from your belongings you can log on to your cloud account from anywhere to get a picture of your Passport, credit cards (front and back for the CVV and emergency numbers), drivers license, birth certificate, cruise receipt, flight info, vaccine passport, and any other documents you might need to get out of a problem.

@@cruisecrazy7066 You can scan the documents into OneDrive or another cloud using a scanner or the scanner function in the app. For added security you can use the vault feature, but beware that the 2-factor authentication requirement could lock you out if you do not have access to your devices. I have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and the future is "iffy" at best so she just did it!!! I however am doing all the research which she also appreciates!!! Such wonderful people you both are and any parent would be so humbled and honored to have such beautiful human beings as you as children...I hope the cruise was everything you hoped for and more!!!❤❤❤❤❤

Check to see if there are any major events going on in your port city the day your ship leaves. For example; festivals, pro athletic games, space ship launches 🚀. I only live an hours drive from the New Orleans port, but The Saints 🏈 are playing the same day as our next cruise. The fastest route to the port goes right past the Superdome. Traffic will be a nightmare! We will have to adjust our normal routine to leave home A LOT earlier.

When we notified the card company I gave them a copy of the ship's destination itinerary and dates. That way they knew where we were supposed to be and when. If someone from the last port tried to use it while we were at the next scheduled port, they would know to question that purchase. They also knew when we were supposed to be back and to not approve anything from those locations after our return date. I also followed up with them upon my return so they knew I was indeed back.

I have a plastic tub that I keep for all the non-clothes things that I take on cruises. I’m a believer in owning duplicates of things so that I don’t have to actually pack from my bathroom. Saves me so much time packing and unpacking.

In terms of medications. I suggest bringing a 30 day supply of all medications especially if you are traveling out of the country. With Covid we now k ow how FAST things change. It is also important if traveling near middle eastern countries some medications we think common are actually illegal. If you are traveling with diabetic supplies have a letter from your doctor to avoid any issues. Also CBD products even those bought at a regular store may be banned from the ship and abroad.

Very comprehensive list for all cruisers Ilana. My two cents about wardrobe: Going from today and the dead of winter to a Caribbean cruise may take a bit of time to find the items I put away for the off-season. And, secondly, try everything one is an absolute. I learned the hard way, coming from New Mexico, the desert southwest is extremely dry. My lizard skin sucked up the Caribbean humidity such that my clothes fit very tight and a ring that I purchased didn't fit my size 8 finger but required a size 11!!!! My husband questioned me if I was getting facials on the cruise because my face was "puffy". Three days back home in the dry desert I was back to lizard skin and needed the ring to be resized.

In the age of Covid, Royal Caribbean has changed a lot of policies. We sail next month and you cannot book any shows until you are physically on the ship. You can buy ship excursions now if you want to get off in port. You cannot schedule specialty meals although you can purchase specialty dinner packages. For Covid testing, it must be done within 48 hours of boarding, which is cutting it very close if one is traveling to the port city the day before sailing. We can’t make the appointment for same until 2 weeks before the day of requested appointment.

Number 5 is a great one. Especially since shipping is so iffy right now, so if you need to order things online they could take longer than expected! I love to actual pull things out and keep them in the suitcase or bag that I will use (except maybe clothing). Just because you may think you have something but can't seem to find it right before you leave. Always better to know.

I wish I'd had 30 days to be ready lmao. Got invited the day before it left by a friend to the Valiant Lady because there was space and it was free. But either way I still had an amazing time, luckily the ship was nowhere near capacity so it was super easy to see shows and book things on the day.
Now I keep watching Cruise videos because I really want to go on another in the future.

I don't have a packing area, but I do have three lists: hot weather, moderate weather, cold/wet weather. Depending on ports, I try to have at least one outfit for each eventuality.
I make several phone calls: credit card, bank, and cell phone company. I also stop my mail for longer cruises.

Royal Caribbean has changed their policy of reserving specialty restaurants and shows ahead. Now you have to wait until you’re on the ship. I like to go to Target ahead of time because they have an entire isle devoted to travel sized products and containers. If you’re not a regular cruiser, think about buying water shoes for any rocky beaches the ship may visit.

We cruise in 14 days and I have been checking the Oceania protocols every few days for changes. Also checked country protocols and completed entry forms. We have 6 of the home tests that are proctored and will take those 2 days before the cruise. If a problem with them, cannot go to CVS or Walgreens because absolutely not able to schedule appointments with them. Will pop over to Doc in a Box and pay $150 each for the tests as they will do for walk ins. Also, Oceania is testing shipside before you can board. We start laying out clothes about a week in advance so that will be soon. Already have all specialty dining booked and excursions booked and paid for. Will book a few more dining options on board. Already have $200 in small bills for tips for guides and drivers. I only use American Express and they have told me not to call when I travel, they know already since I book cruises and flights with my Amex. Since i had my SeaDream experience and isolated in Barbados, I now pack at least an extra weeks worth of prescriptions. Already printed everything out except for final boarding health test. Great list of tips and really handy for new or infrequent cruisers. Thanks for sharing.

My son and his family will be arriving the day before our cruise and, although everyone is vaccinated and we've all had Covid, getting these pre-tests is going to be a big hassle.

We always bring cash for tipping the porters when we check into the cruise. We bring cash to plan to tip our cabin steward five to $10 a day. We also bring a couple of dollars daily for the tip that we give the person that brings our room service. We also bring five dollars for any bus shuttle, tour, that we would think we may do. Then, we bring a little bit extra cash for any souvenirs that might be less than $20 because small businesses have to pay 2-3% to their credit cards for fees.
I know we also participate in the gratuities charge to our account, but we feel like we can afford to cruise. These people have not worked for upwards of two years. They are serving us onboard, working seasonally in Alaska, we feel blessed. Therefore we plan to bring cash to cover at least these items. There are two of us who have friends and children who have worked in the service industry.

Another wonderful video. I also always try to pull out cruise clothes ahead of time. Since it's cold and winter here, it's not a problem to pull out summer clothes, bathing suits, sandals, etc. and then when it's time to pack almost everything is ready to go. I put them in a drawer in my room. I also bring one of those little staplers, just in case the luggage tags need reattached. I send myself a photo of my passport. They're in the cloud, too. The cruise critic roll call and onboard meet and mingle parties have been fun. Lots of info from other cruisers.
