Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down House Of The Dragon.

Season 2 episode 6 sees a lot of seeds being sewn and the blacks and greens make their next moves in the dance of the dragons. As always we're gonna be breaking down the easter eggs and talking about what happens in the book. As always we'll save that for the spoiler section at the end and I'll give you a heads up before we get into that. This will hopefully give you a bit more context and help you enjoy the episodes more. Now we begin with some additional shots that have been added to the Intro. In the past we've talked about how Baby Jahaerys and The hanging rat catchers were added to the tapestries but now we also have a couple of others. Now Vhaghar tearing apart Lucerys and Arrax was originally in the first episode but this was later taken out. Here we get a different render of it before it then goes into Jaherys.

I agree on Damon’s visions. I said to my partner today that if I had to watch another Damon hallucination, I would stop watching the series. How he hasn’t got the jist by now, blows my mind!! I think the dragon glass is carried because it doesn't melt as fast as steel and maybe it isn't as hot to grab.

“The idea that we control the dragons is an illusion” Seasmoke just proved Viserys correct
Not completely. He proves that it is about Valyrian not Targaryen blood. It also shows us that the velaryons had no dragon because they were only a minor noble house in old Valyria and thus their rank was to low so they weren’t allowed to own dragons.
@@nils_5854 For sure-I was just alluding to Seasmoke chasing Addam. It's not the traditional way to claim a dragon. Dragons will never be fully tamed and controlled. Just like what happened with Luke's dragon Arrax and Aemond's dragon Rhaegar not listening to them. I’m sure they'll show more subtleties throughout the season with certain ambiguous moral aphorisms attached to it. Certain themes like “power" I'm just guessing tho. But also this warning coming from Viserys who rode Balerion the biggest dragon in Westeros history.
@@nils_5854 Targaryen blood is valyrian blood. The targaryens were the only major surviving valyrian family along with their lower houses the velaryons and celtigars

Sadly the physics of the scene dont jive with the wound. The last two episodes have just been such a let down

Olivia Cooke(alicent hightower) was a character on "Bates Motel" which was a spooky horror show. The scenes with Dameon really feel almost like she wrote them and she got the idea from bates motel.
And Rhaneyra kissing scene was silly. Why would she kiss her lover(dameon) ex. They have no chemistry at all & you could just feel how forced & unneccsary it was. Dameons great character being wasted in these "Bates Motel" like horror flashbacks is a L

@@markkucharski2272Aegon obviously remembers, he just said that so Aemond doesn’t kill him. I don’t know how you missed his clearly nervous/frightened body language . The “black dude” and Laenor are half brothers and dragons are known to have a magical connection with their riders so it kind of makes sense why it would fly to Driftmark and notice him. Daemons shrooms trip has felt a bit stretched out but in the books he was at harrenhall for a year. The kiss was dumb.

Well said! I was thinking the exact same thing. I’m also think we have had enough of his visions and dreams or whatever that witch is doing to him.
I honestly think it's the only way for them to be able to show his character development. He doesn't actually do too much in the book. Rallies troops in the river land, rides Caraxes around the area, and then has a dramatic point in his story. It's hard to have to character development in those situations tbh

Whatever they're doing I'm sick of it. I'm sick of "adaptions" bullshitting their way through the story. I'm going to be pisse if they write Nettles out of the show.
I almost think the showrunners got worried with how many people were obsessed with Daemon after the first season (and they clearly want Rhaenyra to be the main character), so they made his storyline this season frustrating and then made him disloyal to Rhaenrya.
I think that visual of Rhanerya’s food supply drop coming in the dead of night was my favorite visual of the episode but i also really liked all the seasmoke stuff. he’s my favorite dragon and they didn’t really highlight him in season 1
I am ready to see Gray Ghost. I thought at first he was going to be within the smoke that Sea-Smoke flew through. When the noise started and the wind blew, I thought it was going to be Gray Ghost hiding while holding onto the wall.

these 6 episodes literally could have been one episode plot wise.
Unfortunately Daemon doesn't do much in the books at this moment, they're trying to do what they can with him before he has his big moment to shine again

I said the same thing. He looks just like him and if you listen closely, they even made him sound like drogon…they’re clearly from the same line
Makes one wonder if that loyalty is different than man claiming the dragon with magic.
“One has stopped singing” could refer to 3 circumstances:
1) dragon keeper who’s dead by seasmoke fire (they sing at the beginning to summon seasmoke).
2) Also it could refer to her mother’s voice (Alicent) who is banished from the small council.
3) AND it could refer to seasmoke who Rhaenyra said was restless and making noise previously (could be sign of Leanor being dead), now that it has accepted new rider.
I personally think it’s the third circumstance. Makes sense to me and we have seen seasmoke calling out for multiple episodes now. I’d assume he will stop now that he has a new rider.

@@TDdelta777 Storytelling device. They showed Aegon always fidgeting with it and showing the ball never settling into its place, much like Aegon. Then when Aemond took his place, it immedietly falls into place because Aemond always wanted to be king.
Another scene shows Aegon leaving the room while his council ball stays in place showing that the king is merely a figurehead, and the council is much more efficient and "king like" when he was not present.
I thought they were to allow you to speak within the council meeting. Like whoever is holding it...but maybe I just made that up

If Seasmoke claimed a new rider then it means Laenor died off screen for plot sake since the book killed him off but the movie kept him alive for reasons.
Seasmoke claiming Addam means Laenor is dead, a dragon cannot be bonded to two different people. i have no idea what the point was in not killing Laenor on screen when he’s dead in the books.

Maybe it referred to Grover Tully? Or perhaps it was referring to Seasmoke who was searching for a rider, and now he stopped singing/searching? Or it could just be a plot point of a future episode.
It's about the birds representing the Siblings, each bird represented Helena, Aegon, & Aemon. Aegon has been silenced and is no longer thriving. Aegon is the bird who stopped singing.

I was actually touched how Larys spoke from the heart to Aegon about how his life will be going forward since he's known that life since birth.
These 5 minute episodes are KILLING ME. 70+ minutes my butt!!!! I've missed Visyres. Its Aemond looking at Larys like no not you...you fool go find my grandfather before I bust your head to the white meat. Aemond immediately firing his mother was hilarious. Ok the Harrenhal plot needs to end I do love Paddy came back for it but lets get Daemon back to his wife. Rheanyra & Mysaria....why??? Thats just as much a why as Frenchie & Colin in The Boys

Rhanyra having a gay kiss jumpscared me as a gay person
I saw this coming a couple of episodes ago. People on this comments thread seem to hate the scene, but i think it makes sense. They're both a comfort for one another. Rhaenyra shows something that Mysaria hasn't seen or received before - mercy. And Mysaria gives Rhaenyra something she doesn't get anywhere else: unconditional support and belief. So, the scene didn't feel 'forced' to me. Only a bit sudden, maybe.

@@davidmontoute2074 Friends exist. Alicent and Rhaenyra were super close, they didn't start making out though. She's not once been shown to have a crush on a woman; several men, but no women. It was put in for virtue points because it does NOTHING for the story and wasn't foreshadowed.
Imagine if a woman was super kind to Laenor, would he kiss her? Sexuality is not fluid, you are born one way and stay that way for the rest of your life.

I’m disappointed about nettles not being in the show but i definitely agree rahna is gonna take her place with sheep stealer which honestly I don’t know how I feel about yet, mostly just because the outcome of her character, another character & 2 dragons will have to be changed.
Morning is pretty important symbolism wise towards the end, also we know sheep stealer ends up in the Vale, the burned men of the mountain tribes literally created an entire religion & ceremony around “The fire witch” which was nettles.
Removing nettles & replacing her with Rahla changes a lot more than you’d think at first, maybe Sheep stealer will die while Rahla lives to then hatch morning?
That would be super underwhelming tho.
They would have to create a whole new female character for the blacks that would hatch & bond with Morning unless they decided to just not include morning at all which I hope isn’t the case, she’s the poetic ending of the dragons, the last HEALTHY born Dragon & a symbol of the blacks being favored by the Gods as legitimate after the wars major battles are fought & dragons are almost extinct, plus she’s pink I feel like she would be such a pretty one to see!

Starting to look like the directors/writers have no idea what to do with daemon so they just have him meaninglessly meandering around in a castle seeing shit for now THREE whole episodes pretty much.
The problem is they didn't make him learn how to fight. The actor has literally never swung a sword. Yet he is built for war...?

This episode was written by the same person as The Acolyte episode 3. We are not dealing with high quality writers unfortunately.
They've really been negligent with Daemons story.
He would've been out of that wretched place quickly,
scheming and manipulating,
fighting and provoking
or in town playing with working gals.
No way Daemon would sit around in a run down castle without power or excitement
"waiting" for anything.
He's a creator not a waiter.
He'd never accept a position of low power much less self imposed one on himself.
It's possible the writers just placed Daemon on hold and stopped writing any storyline for him in expectation of the future fight he will have with Aemon but that would be insulting to both character and us fans.
It's disheartening that the writing is so hit and miss
but aren't these the same writers that f#@ked us on the last couple seasons of GOT if I understand correctly?
My expectations started off low, raised at the beginning, and have now crashed again. Turning one of the most interesting characters into a lame madman of no consequence is repugnant.
The absolute best was how well the strategy of sending food to the "small folks".
I believe Ranaera had no idea exactly how effective it was without being able to see the incredible unrest and chaos it created while heralding her name.
If she weren't so disconnected she would recognize and understand her whispers are stronger than her adviser's blood lust and may win her the war.
If the people refuse to accept the usurpers then
they can't be the peoples rulers easily or for long
and certainly won't support or soldier for the crown.
All the royals underestimate the "small folks" so this is possibly the reason Raeynera wasn't more excited about the victory or it's impact and remains in a state of despair about her chances of winning!

There was no reason for Rhaenyra to get sexual with her chief of staff. Just because you're starting to trust someone who is helping you doesn't mean you jump into bed with them, and just because you're having marital problems with a man and have never been anything other than heterosexual does not mean you suddenly have a thing for women. It was a major artistic gaffe for the writers to go and wokeify the show with that little turn and it doesn't fit the characters at all.

But honestly, this makes so much sense why Addam is able to claim Seasmoke, or more accurately, why Seasmoke claimed Addam. Laenor basically raised Seasmoke and he seemed heartbroken when Laenor left, so his half brother must give some sort of comforting aura to Seasmoke. Seasmoke seemed to have an interest in Addam earlier in the season as well, and this is probably why. Booksnobs are already bent out of shape because it doesn't follow the unbreakable gospel of the books, but as long as it makes sense and doesn't outright contradict what could be possible in ASOIAF, who cares? Its a world where god damn dragons are a thing. Let the gigantic man eating puppy have his new owner.

In the book I thought what happened to King Aegon was just a cool story beat, but now that I’ve watched this guy give such an excellent performance in the first half of s2, knowing that he’s going to be basically off the board for the rest of the conflict, is a total bummer. The book is like a textbook you don’t care about the characters on a human level like in the show.
I find myself wanting Otto & Alicent to be worked into the show in whatever way they can. Because I know those characters become less important as the conflict rages in the book, but the performances in the show are so strong I don’t want them to get written out.

I like to he length of the daemon bits, it’s really making his growth seem legitimate and fleshing it out helps with the sense of how long events are taking to unfold around him
I must say HotD is okay, but these episodes haven't lived up to early episodes of GoT, not even close. Maybe that's unfair, but the story seems a little predictable and rather slow. It's still better than mist shows, but honestly, I couldn't give this season more than 7/10 so far, and this episode 5/10

The Rhaenyra x Mysaria romance plot is so fucking stupid and unnecessary it makes my head spin. She really couldnt just be a good female advisor that can relate to Rhaenyra as another woman, they had to formulate a contrived romance plot that obviously compromises her role as a strong advisor to her.

Olivia Cooke(alicent hightower) was a character on "Bates Motel" which was a spooky horror show. The scenes with Dameon really feel almost like she wrote them and she got the idea from bates motel.
And Rhaneyra kissing scene was silly. Why would she kiss her lover(dameon) ex. They have no chemistry at all & you could just feel how forced & unneccsary it was.
