Such a beautiful cover. So melancholy and sad, but there is a light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. This song literally touches my soul and makes me cry every time I listen to it. There just are no words to properly describe how it makes me feel. I heard some one say that the original was the warning, Disturbed's cover was the anger, and Geoff's was the sadness and reflection that comes after.
As a teen learning guitar, I of course, bought all of the Simon & Garfunkel sheet music. Paul wrote this song at the age of 21. TWENTY-ONE! He has the soul of a true poet and bard, and every song, at least for me, is a masterpiece. His guitar playing is also second to none.
Geoff's take on this adds an entirely new dimension to the song. Voiceplay just dropped 'Golden Hour" with a young man of 17 that they have wanted to sing with them for a a few years. Voice of an absolute angel. Beautiful song. And Geoff's wife Kathy is a dollmaker building the perfect man...🤣

I've seen where you have reacted to Geoff a few times, but you've yet to look at anything by the group he works with, Voiceplay. If you enjoy his solo arrangements, you'll love what he can do when he has other talented vocalists to blend into them. Of course, Layne also does arrangements also, and his arrangments are great too in addition to being a good cinematographer and amazing beatboxer.

This is a very nice cover of this iconic song. Those low, nearly silent rumbles in the background are wonderful. The original will always be my favorite, but this will be on my list of "pretty close" covers along with the one by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust (who will undoubtedly be another inductee) and the one by The Hound and the Fox with Adam Chance.
im really surprised you have not reacted to Voiceplay. They are an acapella group, that sings mostly theme songs, plus they dress the part, so you get both singing and theater.
Neither VoicePlay nor Geoff block reactors as they want your people to get turned on to their music. Please use full opacity and no rain drops. Part of what they do is visual, we need to see it as well.

"People talking without speaking" that always plants in my mind a theme my dad knew all too well: People say a lot but don't say anything at all, they run their mouths and dribble and meaninglessness comes out. It's like a rebuke of small talk, saying things that are insincere, or mindlessly saying things but have no soul or really meaning them. My dad was very reserve and short on words. He didn't say "I love you" or "I'm proud of you" except in extreme cases, because if he said it all the time, we would take it for granted and they wouldn't be special or rememberable. His actions spoke way louder though. Another example of people talking without speaking is politicians, since they are "masters" of saying the same old phrases, same old claims, and saying nothing, just to get people to vote for them. Which is why we need someone who talks straight with us instead of saying nothing or lies we like to hear. "People hearing without listening" is the follow up to the previous rebuke. People don't really listen to things, they'll hear things, but not let things soak into their brains. It also speaks about how we don't pay attention to things that matter. How many people say, "Everything seemed fine" after someone ends their own life? How many people don't hear the cries of help in all it's subtleties? How many people turn off their brains while listening to music and don't let it reach their soul, letting the meaning and depth pull them in? In a way, look at pop music as opposed to a real good country song, pop is just ear candy and fluff that means little, where the good country songs grab you and make you relate in some way to it. Pop is more popular, and the genre bleeds into many other genres, but there are people who know the value of a great country song and want to keep country music country. Also, I think the "neon god they made" is referring to TV and other forms of flashy entertainment that turns people's brains to mush.
Sure he has an insanely deep voice, mountains of talent and money, success, long beautiful hair, and a jawline you could chisel stone with, but is he happy? He is? F**K!

This, I believe, was the first time I had ever heard this artist, but the fourth different version of this song I've heard (you hadn't heard Pentatonix version at this point). Though the depth of his voice is unique, I think that most of this version lacks many of the elements that make the others great. I'd actually put this version behind the original, Simon & Garfunkel version that everyone knows. It had its moments, but only...moments.
