I can imagine that those maps aren't exaggerated. there's really simple ways to die in caves that you think are obvious but then something happens very suddenly and you end up with 7 bodies at once bc of sudden flooding or a cave in in a specific spot. not all people who enter caves do it with proper equipment and a lot are just inexperienced. you never know what can happen.
Yeah, I’ve noticed the randomly added ads follow sudden changes in brightness. This makes sense on some levels as it denotes a scene change but it does not work for the suspense and horror genre as this will inevitably happen
@@Skigress It's wherever the video is at peak engagement that TH-cam places the ad. Makes sense that the most watched moments are usually the jump scares.
The overlay of the cave system and missing people are very similar because they also match the population maps. Humans have discovered and mapped caves around where they live. Also, missing people are only reported in places where people live. You can overlay any two maps that require people to live there, and you'll see a matching pattern. For example, compare 'pounds of sherbet ice cream eaten per year' and, say 'crocs purchased per year' and you'll see a similar match. It's just population.
@uncropped soop it's easy to go missing in caves but not a lot of people do, compared to the total population, because not a lot of people go into caves in the first place
@@geekjokes8458 yeah definitely, that's why it's likely a combination of the two factors (that and the maps were probably deliberately skewed to add to the effect)
okay but, how are you sure that its not just people who eat a lot of sherbet ice cream that purchase crocs and are alive who are being abducted by hidden cave creatures? maybe its all connected!
actually from what i've seen it seems that the missing person map is actually a map of people who went missing in national parks specifically, not just missing people as a whole
As a massive Technomancy Studios fan im so happy they had a game blow up like this, ive talked with the developers and they are such cool people, seeing mark play this is great.
Its a fictional account of a place that’s a national park similar to yellowstone. The main difference being that instead of being located over a supervolcano, its located inside of a very large cavern made of biological matter. In other words its a giant cave system made up of the body of a buried amd still living super sized underground creature. Its similar to scp in that we don’t know much about it and what we DO know is shown through old posters and pictures as well as government files and stuff. Its not really a video, more like an online thing you can read. It’s definitely worth a look
6:50 Thanks, Lixian; now I need a new chair... I will continue to say it, Markiplier is awesome as a TH-camr (since, sadly, I will not be able to know him in other roles), but his interaction with Lixian makes the videos somewhat more wholesome. Thanks to you both!
3:56 mild - gong like sound 6:50 MAJOR - as other comments suggested. Editor puts a loud jump scare here. Large cartoon eyes and jagged teeth take up the whole screen and scream at you at this second. That's so fucking rude, lol. 6:54 mild - right afterward there's an ominous echoey sound and a "motion detected" notification that puts Mark on high alert. 9:34 moderate - sudden ominous sustained not and the screen becomes very grainy. A shadowy figure can be seen approaching the drone before quickly vanishing. 11:43 mild - another echoey impact sound and a notification of motion detected. 12:14 mild - echoey impact sound, screen shakes as a tremor causes large boulders to fall down the charm right in front of him. There's also a body that falls with them but it's very hard to see. 12:42 mild - comes across the bloodied corpse of a miner. It's fuzzy and low poly, however. 13:34 mild - finds another body and scans it. After scanning we get another echoey gong and a bunch of those little red motes fly out of the burrow where that body is. The VHS blue background pops up. 14:45 mild - blue background guess away and the cavern is filled with lots of very small wiggling tentacles. 16:12 mild - rounds a corner to see red crystals and a body bag with tentacles sticking out of it. 17:07 moderate - grain and shadowy figure comes back, standing in the puddle he's scanning. Vanishes. 17:51 mild - a shadow of a man is cast on the wall to the left. 23:31 moderate - screen rumbles in a tremor. Entire screen turns to static. Text background pops up but it's red now. Afterwards, the environment looks almost molten, still with tentacles. 24:42 mild - strange agitated large creature sounds. 27:24 mild - in the belly of the beast now. Lots of large gross tentacles waving about. 27:52 moderate - the crevice that is being scanned opens up and there's a large eye behind it. Monster starts screaming. Then cuts to static. And that's it! When Markiplier signs off and says "bye bye!" It hangs on looping footage of the giant eye.
I think there are times when simpler/chunkier graphics like this are actually a better choice because it leaves more room to imagine the "real thing" whether you want to or not! Iron Lung did this very well too. It's a bit slow (probably slower than we realize since the video's edited whereas Mark had to sit there the whole time), but I think that helps add to the feel of how small you are in this massive cave system, and overall the game doesn't seem too long so the pace isn't as big of a deal as it could be. Very atmospheric (my weakness with horror) with a great final punch at the end. Seems like a short, sweet, passionately-made game. Hope we see a sequel or something else from the devs in the future!
That's an interesting way of doing a cave or rock based feed. The bodies are dropped off, the seed is planted in the body, the crystals sprout from the body and the crystals consume or digest the body - kinda like how certain insects plant their eggs inside a body and the young eat their way out when they're born
I made the terrible mistake of drifting in and out of sleep while watching this, and even though Mark gave us a fair warning that a jumpscare was coming, as soon as I opened my eyes, the jumpscare played, and I slightly jumped. Well played, Lixian.
I had a “recurring” dream that would essentially continue (not repeat) every night that went on for like 2 weeks, I remember the beginning of it was finding my way out of a cave. The weirdest part of it is the fact that I have distinctly drawn the map and the insides of each part of the cave, as well as everything else from that dream, and the dream was about 5 years ago. I drew it the night after and a few days ago drew it again and it looked the exact same (with a bit of artistic improvement). I woke up in the dream the first night on top of a sleeping bag with a backpack next to me and there was no fear. I had a flashlight, some food, some water, the sleeping bag, a spare coat, and exactly $37.62. I can still draw the exact placement of those from where I woke up.
Also also Mark: joins a parkour group during college and attempts to jump off the second floor of a parking garage to do a cool action roll, but ends up busting his ass.
It would be so easy to imagine Squirral Stapler being the fisrt part of the story, Cave Crawler being the way the blood appeared on the moon and Iron Lung being the last. I know that these three games have no correlation, but it's fun to imagine!
ah nice, someone else already mentioned this, now I don't have to type it up lol. That's how I learned them. For stalagmites, they MIGHT have to hold tight.
In horror games and movies most of the time if you dont directly see the threat it's so much more scary, of course this doesn't count for all, however i do suspect that it's why people find the dark scary cuz like humans mostly rely on sight god i could make a whole video esay talking about what makes stuff scary in horror games and movies it's just so interesting
I have a theory. Or, at least, something that may contribute to a theory. When Mark investigated the coal barrow, it said it's a Rockwell Excavation container. Rockwell was fused with other companies in 1973, and sold to other companies in 2001. Since the barrow was abandoned recently, and Rockwell hasn't had their name as just Rockwell since the fusing, this game has to take place before 1973. Something else that started before 1973? The Cold War. They find the crystals in the cave as a great energy resource, and persue despite the great dangers, because back then, US and Russia were trying to better each other in every way. Another thing to note, is that around that time, climate change was finally starting to get people's attention, so finding a not polluting energy resource could've been a great breakthrough.
14:07 -- So, over time we send half of humanity down into the caves, let them crystallise and harvest the energy. This way we solve overpopulation and energy crisis.
For those wondering what are the coordenates at minute 28:52 , the first one leads to some kind of natural reserve at Alaska, the second one is nearby to a natural park at Florida's coast, and the last one, that freak me out, is literraly in middle of nowhere at the Atlantic Sea... I'm not sure if any of thde locations are relationated with the game(and I hope they aren't)

15:12.... So it seems to me like they're taking bodies (or perhaps living people) and leaving them by the crystals to get spore-ified. The possibility of the "Food" being alive is the most concerning part, here. Why are they taken? Did they do something to warrant being sent down here?
Greed? Maybe? the crystal’s are apparently ALOT more effective then actual NUCLEAR POWER, imagine how much money a person would make by selling them? powering buildings? huge projects? One corpse may be like, 15 million dollar’s right on the spot, let alone an entire, large team. maybe humans are the monsters.
Caves have to be some of the most terrifying places on planet Earth. I think I'm almost more terrified of caves than I am the ocean. All those stories I see about people getting stuck in tiny holes they crawl through or getting trapped by cave-ins have deterred me from ever wanting to go visit a cave. Unless it's one of those large cool open touristy ones I suppose.
The numbers and letters at the bottom of the UI are hexcode. When converted to ascii, it spells the following: 4F 43 45 41 4E : OCEAN Objective during the final level: 46494E442054484520434F5245 0/1: FIND THE CORE 0/1 Love little bits like this
Actually, caves are pretty safe! Only a few handfulls of explorers have died in caves. Now mines are way more dangourous than caves! Lots of miners died from collapsing tunnels or faultlines shifting. Wish me luck caving next month!
@@etozy7065 judging by the fact that people appear to be the food that is given to the living crystals and that when he scanned the “dead team member” it said in bold letters “YOU FOUND A CRYSTAL!” it would be reasonable to assume that it’s a crystal that was grown with a human corpse (a member of the team sent down there to be more specific). I’ve been listening to Mark’s videos as a lullaby almost every night for about 3-4 years now. There is nothing in this world that makes me feel more safe than this man’s voice, even if it’s a horror game he’s playing. He’s just my comfort person, and I’m so glad I found him. Mind you, I’m 20 years old and I started watching him when I was like 12 or 13, but in the last few years I started having some troubles sleeping- and nothing helped. Fortunately, Mark’s voice is just so soothing, that I’m pretty sure I shuffled thru his entire channel at least 5 times by now. I’m just glad that I found him. 💜

Markiplier: searches the crystals
Also Mark: “Crystals it’s always crystals that are the true enemy.”

The jumpscare didn’t really scare me because of an ad but the scary rocks made me jump 😂
I started laughing cause the advertisement started playing like 3 frames after the jumpscare haha
Yeah, I’ve noticed the randomly added ads follow sudden changes in brightness. This makes sense on some levels as it denotes a scene change but it does not work for the suspense and horror genre as this will inevitably happen

It's just population.
well, it's also probably the fact that it's very easy to go missing in caves. likely a combination of both these factors

Mark trying to convince himself :
I'm just a robot, there is no danger
3:56 mild - gong like sound
6:50 MAJOR - as other comments suggested.
Bless you for the list 🥰
Thank you for your effort! Haha your name stands well

Why do these jump scares warning exists?
This feels heavily inspired by that one Gemini home entertainment vid. The one where the camera drill finds the alien beast and gets captured.
I was SCROLLING to find this comment omg I was thinking the same thing!!
The HUD is practically identical to the ROCT from "Advanced Mining Vehicle" so I think you are right.
Oh shit yeah it is, didn’t mark watch Gemini? If not he def should
That's what I immediately thought when I saw the gameplay, it's got to be inspired by it
Finally found the comment that mentions it
You’re correct about caves. The one time I went cave diving when I was a kid, I’m not even claustrophobic but that made my lizard brain rebel.
The bodies are dropped off, the seed is planted in the body, the crystals sprout from the body and the crystals consume or digest the body - kinda like how certain insects plant their eggs inside a body and the young eat their way out when they're born
all I ever imagine watching Marks videos is animated Lixian sitting in the corner of the screen eating popcorn and watching the video with us
