Bobby, from what I can tell you've seen beast wars but didn't enjoy it very much and that's fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I would highly recommend rewatching the series. Despite what many g1 fans think, (and I'm not saying you think this, but half of tfw2005 does, so it's worth mentioning) the series respects it's source material and gives g1 great importance as the story unfolds, and the twist in season 2 of the show is mind blowing on first watch. The characters are also very well developed, with standouts being Dinobot and Rattrap and their crazy relationship. Overall it was an enjoyable watch and is best when coming in with an open mind, as you do with your reviews. As always thanks for a great review and take care.

I love Beast Wars and Dinobot was probably my favorite character. Can't justify that price at all though.
I prefer a stand that is a bit inconspicuous. This looks like he is on a production line.

Gotta say, mad respect for doing an actual _review_ instead of just a product demo. What’s more, really appreciate that you are able to account for your personal biases and weight against them when giving your final considerations. I for one _love_ beast wars and found myself salivating at this figure. That said, I will consider your - valid - criticisms before I decide to shell out for this baby.
The problem with “screen accuracy” in Beast Wars, is that they weren’t that “good” on-screen. They‘re really early and chunky CG.

Perci Constance yep, they had to use a faux chest piece on both Dinobot and Cheetor as using the actual beast head as chests does not really work

1. False chest was a good idea to keep that screen accuracy.
2. At least the models havent aged nearly as bad as on beast machines

Man they put a lot of thought in this figure, but I'm just not a Beast Wars kind of dude. That price tag is REALLY a turn off as well. Thanks for the review!

When those dinosaur thighs flipped down into the sides of the body, that was a legit OH SHIT moment for me! Damn!
If Dino mode had less teases of bot mode, I’d be more interested. But, after MMC’s Jaguar, my next & second MP purchase is between FT’s Grinder, Hydra, and MP-13.
Also, The Golden Disc is based on two records sent on the Voyager Probes in ‘77. And, the NASA committee that designed those artifacts was chaired by Carl Sagan.
The shoulder pieces rotate towards the inside of the leg in Dino mode to hide more and the pieces above them will come down a bit more to cover as well. Comes mistransformed out of the box
He also didn't secure the shoulder assembly to the back of the knees for dino mode. Limits the articulation a bit but helps hold the figure together and makes for a more cohesive looking dino
To the unsung bird. I’ve had them secured and unsecured. Was just looking for what I could get out of it articulation wise

Worth US retail? Nah. Worth the Amazon.jp pre-order price? Hell yes.
One thing this review taught me about the figure that I didn't already know: It has an ab crunch??? In the middle of all that inside out engineering? That's outstanding.
EDIT: Also the ankles absolutely needed ratchets. Not sure why they didn't throw them in, they were already charging a premium for the figure. I heard floor polish helps but I'm not sure how to go about applying that to hinge joints.
EDIT EDIT: I hope the inclusion of display stands is the new norm for the MP line moving forward. They did it for the old seekers and I wish they had continued. So long as future figures with stands also have good ankle joints.

Gotta say, as a beast wars fan this figure has nine in love. Great review Bobby, as always impressed by your ability to be fair on a figure you couldn’t care less about.
If you scale Dinobot with the Masterpiece Autobots, Dinobot is the size of a T-Rex, given how tiny the human characters are Spike, Sparkplug & Chip, not to mention Dr. Archeville from the first Masterpiece Starscream.
Neat. If mine ever ships, looks like a fun dude. I wasn't in on BW figures until I thought about how much I really did watch the show back in the late 90's, just because it was the only thing on at the ass crack of dawn besides fitness shows. They're putting a lot of care into these figures, arguably more than they ever do the Sunbow offerings. I didn't realize it came with so much and a huge stand, easily as much parts count and accessories as MP-36. That doesn't justify the retail price in the States, but does make the Japanese pre-order price an easy pill to swallow. Good review, and I'm pleased you kept your instinct to let us know how stupid you think the whole thing looks to a couple comments. Thanks, brother.

Just... JUST... because no one has mentioned it and I'm not 100% everyone not in the BW loop that skipped history and science class is aware but the golden disk is the Voyager Probe record. Just a PSA from GFM.

Not a huge fan of beast wars but I did like the designs for Megatron, Waspinator, Terrorsaur, Tarantulas, and Protoform X in the show.

It's a decent figure, I'll give Takara that. But dammit Takara, ratchets in both the dino & robot ankles would have made him cheaper than the display stands!
Big Beast Wars fan: I can get down with your review. It’s firm and fair. I thought the ankles could have used ratchet joints or something. I love my Dinobot, he’s my second fav MP behind wheel jack. I do think you got a bad sword. Mine is not flaking...yet.
I couldn't bite the price tag either. Until they showed protoype pics of Megs.
I really really wanted this figure, but I've decided that G1 takes priority. This guy is just too expensive, and there are other things I want right now. I grew up watching Beast Wars and I do feel that the show kept my love of Transformers alive while entering my teens.
jirayasama7 I agree brother! G1 most definatly takes first priority for me as well. Heck, for the price of this guy, you can get 2 or 3 masterpieces. Look out around September 27, there is a one night event @ AMC theaters for the 86 animated Transformers the movie! We get to see it 1 more time in theaters! Have a good one bro!
jirayasama7 you will have to wait a bit more as the next MP to be released is a redeco of Sunstreaker named Cordon (I don't know who that is) then Beast Wars Megatron early next year, after that we get G1 Optimus Prime V3 and then Hound

Looks like Takara put a lot of thought and effort into this figure. It's just too bad that the real world wouldn't let them mass shift the figure so it didn't look like a panel-y box with teeth and claws in beast mode. I do agree that I don't see anyone else taking on BW.

Dinobot is such a good guy. Better than Optimus Prime. Sacrificed for a true purpose.

Considering this is a beast wars figure the fact that the chrome may be the last thing I wanted them to carry over from the old toy line.

He's dethroned anyone else with the mantle of Megan Fox thumbs 😂. Yeah this thing is pretty damn cool, I'd like to scarf one up this year.
For the Beast Wars line, I've started wondering if it would be feasible for manufacturers to use something like painted silicone panels to represent the beast hide, as opposed to using textured hard plastic. Silicone would flex with and conform to the mecha innards, without having all the obvious gappiness of hard plastic shell pieces, and without limiting beast articulation either.
Real silicone is expensive though.
Might rot or attract bugs too.
Considering they got pretty close to making an impossible transformation work for two good looking modes I'm wondering how a blackarachnia would work

It's fairly screen accurate. As good as could be expected out of the dino mode, but holy fuck nuts at that sticker price... I don't want to see what the scalpers chuck it off for...
Why are you complaining that the flaps don't cover more in Dino mode, when you didn't fold them down properly to cover the robot bits in the first place?
Yo Bobby, I know you're against knock off, but its products like, the MP36, and MP Shockwave that really drives Transformers fans the KO route, and makes a case that Takara is doing it to themselves. Just my two cents.

Arguably one of THE best characters from the BW series. This is still so much better than any previous release of Dinobot. However, it still stings with those sloppy flaws with the weak ankles, shoulder breakages, and sections not staying tabbed together all that well. For $200-$250, those flaws should not be there on this figure.
Man, i was soo looking forward to this guy, but there is more i don't like than i do like.
I wish they could have made some cover for the raptor mode. I would not mind parts forming. Just to make that raptor mode better.
There seems to be a lot of good about this Dinobot, but, not $250 US retail good. Robert D said on SCU he was unsure if it was even $180 Japanese pre-order good. He looks amazing in bot mode, and the tail and the arms up look great in raptor mode, but that belly and ass being an exposed mess...for that price point I want better coverings. The upcoming BW Megatron seems to do a better job in dino mode, but look how much more he is retailing in the US for. It worries me that the 3.0 prime will be over $250 at US retail.
But back to Dinobot...great looking figure for sure. And unless one of the 3rd party companies give it a shot, likely the best representaton of him that is going to be seen for a long time as you said. Also, I chuckled at you showing off the moves, good sir. This was a nice, thorough and solid review, Bobby!

I had forgotten how big he is compared to his counterparts.
Remove top rack from barbecue. Prepare barbecue (medium heat). If using 2-burner grill, light 1 burner. If using 3-burner grill, do not light center burner. Drain wood chips. Stack 2 mini loaf pans (one inside the other); fill with 1 cup wood chips. Stack remaining loaf pans; fill with 1 cup wood chips. Place pans directly on flame (if using 3-burner grill, place both pans on 1 lit side). Place aluminum baking pan over unlit portion of grill. Return top rack to barbecue.
Did the Takara seekers come with stands?
Hey Bobby, might want to do a small followup with a properly transformed Dino mode. People might get a wrong idea of this mode watching this vid.
Rquiem definitely won’t be doing that LOL. it was a real criticism of mine and the figure is on its way to its owner

I'm definitely passing on this guy, and most likely all of the MP Beast Wars, with the exception of Primal and Megatron. Gotta have those two.
Love Dinobot. I think Takara did a fabulous job. Yea hes pricy but hes better than BW Megatron. Great job on the review Skully.

Always enjoy watching your reviews. I can tell you're not really into this figure....that's okay. I sold my other MP Beast Wars figures because I couldn't justify spending $250 on Megatron and on a MP series I have no connection to. Honestly, I'd rather get MP Car repaints than MP Beast wars figures...not dissing the figures, just not for me. I admire the engineering and details they are showing off in these newer BW Figures. I will say I enjoy Optimus Primal. I am happy for other fans to get MP figures of characters they love. I just wish they could get through the entire 84 character roster...It feels like the same problem that Capcom had when they couldn't get to Street Fighter 3......lolz

Luckily it’s not really one of my real criticisms and doesn’t stand in the way of the critique. I’m sure most people can see past it and not be hung up on something that takes place in 1/8 of the video. Right?

I Love Beast Wars, but always disliked the actual Transformers. The Beast-Modes always left me wanting, old and new, and with this one it still does. But the Bot mode is superb though, but I'm still skipping BW MPs.

Hello Bobby. I don't mean to bother you with this sort of thing but I thought maybe I could run this by or attention or at least try to get some help. Not that I should burden you with this but, I went over to GCI toys and I had a great first impression, seeing as how they sent me both Zeta toys brawl and swindle.
Now it said on the website that Zeta toys Blitzkrieg would be available on August 4th for purchase, So I waited and ordered it on that day because I was gonna guess everyone would either get it on that day, even you prolly, and review it.
So when I messaged then on the 6th they never responded to my contacting. So I thought "Ok, maybe they are busy with the shipping of some stuff. Totally fine." I then check on the 7th, today, and that the availability has now changed to September 8th and back onto pre order. Again, I apologize since it's not your problem, I just wanted to see what your advice is on this. I also apologize for making this thing so long. Thank you for doing what you do, and I hope to possibly hear back soon.

Excellent review as always! While I like Beast Wars, I'm glad I got out of the BW figure collecting game. It seems pretty cool, but for it's price, I think some of the sacrifices made shouldn't not have been made.

I was 11 when Beast wars came out. Loved the show and this character but just can't get into this figure. The parts showing in raptor mode, even though I display most of my stuff in bot mode, is annoying. I'm on the fence right now. Generation toys beast line looks more to my taste and Perfect Effect.
Alex Riggs important to note that the beast mode is mistransformed in this video, specifically the beast mode legs. The official configuration gives much better concealment to the robot shoulder pads and forms a more cohesive overall appearance. Still has a robot butt thanks to the feet and lower legs sitting back there, but it's not as noticeable from the front and sides

Thanks for the info, looked up a picture, better but not great. I haven't been wowed by a Takara product yet, although it's probably my own doing. Only Takara products i have are Acid Storm and Silverstreak. What Takara Masterpiece do you think is the best? Really i'd like to hear what the best bot from each third party is. Kind of the masterpiece of Masterpieces set.

Is it only me but the stereo sound mic is very weird to listen to with headphones. It’s like he is speaking in to my ear. I’m not in to animal transformers but I Love transformers videos anyway.

Haha, *no* . But I'll be honest, I'm truly digging the Beast Wars stuff from Takara. But here's an idea, how would you respond to 3rd parties using actual animal like textures? Like, Optimus Primal on some troll doll shit, but not as excessive.
I mean, how else could you get a show-accurate Dinobot robot mode *without* compromising the beast mode? Dinobot's transformation in the show is *RIDICULOUSLY* cheaty, having whole parts of the beast body just shrink into the robot parts as they expand.
And getting the engineering to do that would make it *even more* expensive.

That's the best coverage I've seen of this figure. Particularly the transformation.
I'm satisfied I made the right choice passing.
In fact, I think I'm tapping out on the entire Beast Wars line. They have all been far too expensive. Primal and Cheetor were small enough that their price, while inflated, was not a deal breaker; this is not the case here or with Megatron.
I think you're right in saying no-one else will attempt this. Even when 3Ps do Beast Wars, they tend to go stylised rather than show accurate.
Like most people, when we first saw robot mode shots, I assumed Takara had pulled off an Inferno-ladder-hiding level engineering miracle. The reality is s hunchback with a massively compromised beast mode.
Looks like I'm not gonna complete my Axalon crew... :-(

Dino mode panics a bit but i'm honestly astonished they managed to get that clean of a robot mode considering all the shit they had to do to get there.
He basically turns inside out five different ways and looks at worst a bit panely in the back.
The only big issue i've heard about the figure aside from the robot mode's ankles is that the first release has so far had some issues with the ratchets in the shoulders exploding if you force them too bad.
Neither. I'm not saying I'm not impressed by how much they _have_ achieved but I am very disappointed by how far short of my expectations it has fallen and I'm not blind to what they have _not_ achieved. If you like it, I'm pleased for you but this, for what I want, is not on the same level as MP Primal. :-)

I'm sorry, I can't get past dino mode. I mean happy that BW fans got a MP figure but holy hell, what's with those panels and gaps around the hips?

I love Beast Wars but I hate the first season designs and their impossibility. Dinobot’s was the worst.
This was the straw that broke the camels back for me. Can’t do $200+ figures. There’s nothing that can really justify the pricing. Seeing beast wars megatron’s price also helped me decide to quit. I have sold most of my MP figures in the past few weeks too. Still gonna watch all your vids, but my collection is basically just MP-10 and Despotron now.
Dinobot is my all time favorite of the series but the dino mode is ugly and the price is laughable.
This figure really makes me want more Generations beast wars figures because looking at this has made me realize how weird Dinobots show models are. I'd like it if we could get updated versions of the characters with improved designs, rather than sticking super hard to the show model and suffering in turn.
Such an underrated TF reviewer. Fucks sake, Skullface, sometimes I feel like people can't take the truth and would rather have things sprinkle-coated instead of getting it straight from you.
I'm personally going for this guy because it's as you said, I love this design and I am 200% certain we won't be getting a better rendition of BW Dinobot anytime soon or in the near future.

Antonio Vistcoatis at least it was a good show.... that had a lot of g1 references because of fan outcry......and its miles above other transformers shows like energon or rid 15 (or the bad one) in writing....even its oen sequel series....
