The whole Sant Andreu Jazz Band is filled with talent.. As far as Billy Holiday goes, I feel Magali Datzira is more Lady Day like.. , But Rita & Andrea Motis, well, can't be beat, vocals or on their instruments.. Where can you find such multi- talented people, and so young.
Not bad for a 15 year old! She has always been my favorite of Joan's singers. She can sing in so many different styles. Rita Payes is a gifted singer and musician!
One of the most poignant and beautiful renditions of this 1928 Gershwin classic I've ever heard. Spectacular jazz artists all. Rita's mature, haunting voice and unique torch song phrasing touch my heart on each replay (although it was written as a happy show tune). She is a gift to the world of jazz ... and seems touched by something beyond. How can she be only 14? And no piano can more lovingly caress a vocalist than Ignasi's. Everything about this performance is special, including the artistic/creative B&W photography. It doesn't get much better than this. Thank you Joan Chamarro for bringing so much beauty and joy into this world through your videos and your incredibly talented students.
Simply gorgeous. A special word for pianist Ignasi Terraza, whose playing here is startlingly beautiful, as it is on so many other ballads with the various Chamorro groups.
Bravi, bello bello bello. Every comment is a compliment to everyone playin' this song, so I haven't other to say. A special mention (for me, as a saxophonist) to Dick Oatts and to his "voice colour of his soprano sax"
AMAZING. English isn't her first language, and she is amazing! Bravo, Rita. Dios te guarde. Please, please come to the United States. You are that damn good! Bravo, Rita, bravo.
Braught tears to my eyes which does not happen on a daily basis. Joan Chamorro is doing miraculous things to all these young people. The wonderful thing ist, that something like this cannot be pressed on people by demanding 'performance' but by making them love. If you want to make people build a boat, you don't give them wood and ropes but you tell them about the fascination of the ocean....
Musician living & practicing in New York City. I have heard the best or so I thought. Rita is special, very special. Thank you Joan Chamorro for nurturing & giving Rita to the world. I would love to study with you. Best always Robert, NYC.
I want to thank Ignasi Terraza for his stunning piano rendition of this classic. He had me at the first few bars and I would have been content with only his playing the entire song. He has such soul and sensitivity. Rita is great but I would like to know what is in the water where Joan Chamorro finds his young talent. I would like to order gallons to feed to our local young musicians. I suspect that Joan is one of those rare individuals that if he were placed anywhere in a community on earth would find talent. I hope it is something he can mentor in others as we need more like him in our world.
This is one of the finest renditions of this tune I've ever heard. Rita - I have no more I can say about her sensitivity and rendition of tunes anymore - I don't know what else to say about someone so young being able to deliver the message of a song so truthfully. Ignazzi Terraza is such a fine musician, his talent and sensitivity must be acknowledged. Dick Oatts wonderful solo completes the entire recording. A wonderful and masterful tour de force. RR
I discovered this about a year ago and frequently come back to it. It moved me deeply back then and still brings me to tears. How can that be? Dick's beautiful solo...yes of course. He's been around a long time and plays from the heart. Ignasi...yes, so sensitive and compelling. As Frederic Suffet said 4 years ago...'whose playing here is startlingly beautiful'...true. But what is it about that extraordinary 15 year old girl, Rita, that moves this tough old codger to tears? Beats me, but I'll always be grateful for discovering Rita and her astonishing feel for music. Thanks to you all, and especially to you Joan Chamorro. Blessings on you all.
Joan: She was just an outstanding jazz singer at age 14-15. And much like other women in SAJB, she has become creative writing music, preparing a CD for release soon and expanding her vocal and trombone talent. Last summer she and Elisabeth performed "Homenitage a Sr.Lluis Companys" 80th anniversary beautifully and with respect for the occasion. In 2019 while performing at the "Festival De Jazz De Malaga" she, Eva F. And Malagi did "Up a Negihno" in an upbeat rhythm and she was outstanding. She is a gem with a little growl in her voice.
The tempo is perfect and a very young Rita can sustain it convincingly, even ornamenting sweetly (really difficult when slow.). Young voiced but with great musical insight she shows signs of that adult gravitas to come. Ignasi's intro sets a magical stage and Dick carves real limpid beauty with his haunting alto.
Jazz is so alive and well .... the masters pass along their gifts to the youngsters like Rita. Beautiful sensitive rendition ..... perfect solo by Dick Oats ....
Wow! What can you say? Rita is on top of her game. Her style takes me back to Billie Holiday. This is just beautiful. These cats are great. That sax speaks to the listener. And the piano man is real cool, nimble and smooth.
as good as any jazz i have ever heard, and I would really say this is as good as any of my favorite Billie with Pres. Would love to hear Rita do a slow version of Solitude with these Jazzistos....
Bravo, Rita Payes!!!! Beautiful rendition at only 14!!! WTG! And special mention to Sop Sax @03:32 for playing the perfect improv line....I almost fell out my seat......this was really great.
Rita, this is now 2019..and I hope you never change. You're great. You could sing this acapella and it would be just as great. But with those other guys..wow.
Igualmente me siento Mal de no haber sabido de Rita y su super dulce voice, specialy en Portuguese, she sound like ,I will supposed, the angels should sound. Maravilloso human been.
For one so young, Rita puts so much feeling and tenderness into her reading of the lyrics. The sympathetic accompaniment is of a standard one can expect from musicians of such brilliance.
And in French now : Vous êtes si excellents d'habitude que je ne saurais expliquer ce petit plus que je ressens en écoutant cette interprétation. Merci, merci, merci. Et, j'adore le noir et blanc.
Once again I've dared to listen to this extraordinary interpretation. Heartachingly beautiful! I hope there are many backup copies of this. It must never be lost.
Wow.. Rita, cool as always in singing with precise tone and timbre.. Good job..👌😊So freaky on the reed and keys which was a real treat folks..👏😊Thanks..👏🎶Warm cheers. 😊
This is so, so, but so beautifull that we don´t find such quality nowadays!!! And Rita is amazing!!! This kind of stuff don`t used to happen frequently. So, enjoy and share with the people you love! They will shure be gratefull.
Joan Chamorro. Can you forward this to Rita, recommend you sing selected Billy Holiday songs such as "I Hear Music". Voice, phasing, and trombone proficiency are perfect.
Superb performance with not a wasted note. Very atmospheric and affecting. Gorgeous vocal from Rita who seems so nice; gorgeous tone from Dick ; and gorgeous, unusual harmonies from Ignasi. The whole thing presided over by the magician himself Mr Chamorro. Silly me but I was thinking of the old song by Ace sung by Paul Carrack but knew it couldn't be and it wasn't.
Gratulation for reanimation of unforgetible, best music in the world, in new sound and charms of wonderful yoang artist . Seniors are also great. I dont want to ask if it was easy. I know it is'nt. Thank you from all of my heart...
How can anyone that young put that much into this show song? Joan Chamarro is a genius in selecting nascent talent. Brava Rita.
I have been saying: All my idols are dead. But not any more, I found Rita Payes! Thank you Rita, the new Billie Holiday!

This will sound just as wonderful 200 years from now.
Real passion, for real music, never has been so intense. 💜❤💚💝💛

How lucky we are to see Rita move from young teener to today's lovely young woman with her amazing maturity and presence. Take a bow. Bill Burrows
Die Welt ist voller junger Talente. Man munur gewillt sein sie zu finden. Good Job Joan Chamorro!
Wish I could like it as many times as I have listened

Beautifully put...this also brought tears to my eyes, sung and played with such love and care.
I love how Joan has helped all of these young vocalists find their voices. Rita Andrea Eva and Magali all live inside these songs. Bravo to all.
Musician living & practicing in New York City. I have heard the best or so I thought. Rita is special, very special. Thank you Joan Chamorro for nurturing & giving Rita to the world. I would love to study with you. Best always Robert, NYC.
I find myself holding my breath in order to not miss a sound when I listen to her.

Well said! I couldn't agree more!
YES!

As someone said, 5 years ago, Ignasi's ballad playing is startlingly beautiful...y Rita...pues, magico puro.....
deep jazz rendered by young performers... this is rare species

Love the music, Rita´s voice, (I wouldn't change the pronunciation! It's just fine the way it is), the beat...great.
Exactly. The accent is charming but the singing is spot on!
@@prettygoodpickerDo you think that she's channeling Billie Holiday?
No doubt she's heard it!
"for heaven's shake" - delightful! (3.18)
Great singing by Rita Payes and deeply sensitive piano by Ignasi Terraza makes this piece hauntingly beautiful.
What artistry! Astounding maturity for someone so young! Rita, You're Wonderful! Dave Maslow
A beautiful ballad, fabulously executed by all involved. A feast for the ears.
Jazz is so alive and well .... the masters pass along their gifts to the youngsters like Rita. Beautiful sensitive rendition ..... perfect solo by Dick Oats ....
It's time to let it know to the world who is Rita Payès. I love you!
6years ago..wow! Beautifully sung Rita! Super accompaniment with Taraza on keyboard and Hamilton on Suprano sax? GoJoan go!
Wow! What can you say? Rita is on top of her game. Her style takes me back to Billie Holiday. This is just beautiful. These cats are great. That sax speaks to the listener. And the piano man is real cool, nimble and smooth.
someone so young having a connection to music from seventy years ago. Wow.
played jazz all my life...no need for a fluff video...everyone playing with their heart. I will listen a few hundred more times
Rita is already an incredible new artist!
Check out Rita in 2020 doing "Blame It On My Youth". She's outstanding here, but she's come a long way in 5 years!
One of the best rendition ever of this wonderful song, such intensity, such musicality
as good as any jazz i have ever heard, and I would really say this is as good as any of my favorite Billie with Pres. Would love to hear Rita do a slow version of Solitude with these Jazzistos....

Rita and the band--just gorgeous!
Joan Chamorro. Can you forward this to Rita, recommend you sing selected Billy Holiday songs such as "I Hear Music". Voice, phasing, and trombone proficiency are perfect.
This is fantastic because you can hear every sound from every instrument, and the voice. The blend and skill are superb. A great pleasure!
Simply beautiful, the melody and the words of this song are elevated by the perfection of the musicians, Rita's warm voice and her cuteness as well.
Encantadora!!!
BILLIE Holiday, on Trombone.
Bin immer wieder begeistert.
I like Terraza !
I mean his wonderful piano-play!!
Diosa de voz sutil y dulce feeling!!
My favorite show song. She nails it.
Amazing singer !!!!!!
Yes, even at any age :-)
Superb performance with not a wasted note. Very atmospheric and affecting. Gorgeous vocal from Rita who seems so nice; gorgeous tone from Dick ; and gorgeous, unusual harmonies from Ignasi. The whole thing presided over by the magician himself Mr Chamorro.
Silly me but I was thinking of the old song by Ace sung by Paul Carrack but knew it couldn't be and it wasn't.
That Ace song is one of my favourites too - very much of its time.
"For heaven's shake" I'm a devoted fan too!
