  • Opening up their new ballpark, the Cardinals defeated fellow NL Central dwellers, the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-4. Albert Pujols launched the first Redbird long ball in their new digs, and staring pitcher Mark Mulder pitched well (enough), and hit a two-run homer of his own. At the time, nobody could have known that this game was to be one of the last decent outing of Mulder's Major League career, nor could anybody have guessed the wild ride that the 2006 season was going to be ...

God, I remember dad calling off school so I could spend the day watching the game. Practically half the town called off work/school to watch this. This was one of the best days in STL history....then came the World Series that same year.

Thank you so much, really enjoyed the opening ceremonies and everything.
The start of a pretty good season, I'd say!

Well, I don't know if I'd say it was a pretty good SEASON, though it did end quite well! The month of April was great, and then the rest of the regular season was ... meh. I mean, when you nearly blow a seven-game divisional lead with less than two weeks to play, and the only reason you win your division without having to play a make-up game, or tie-breaker is because the team chasing you loses on the final day of the regular season ... yeah. Two seven game losing streaks, an eight game losing streak, and 83 wins later ... well ... it just shows you that anything can happen in October.

I remember when I was 7 years old when I went to my last cardinals home game at the new bush stadium I definitely remember where me and my family was sitting on the left field bleachers on top of the visitors bullpen and I saw one of the lights on the third or second floor blow out and caught something on fire and we saw the firetrucks came to the stadium and put out the fire and the smoke came down the field it was crazy.

Yep. That's where he got his start. Called Cardinals games from 1991-2007.

Completely disagree. Local announcer Joe Buck was actually enjoyable. National Broadcaster Joe Buck ... meh. Not as much.
