      I had opportunity to plow with 3 different teams at Michigan state university several years ago. Early in the day, so they were fresh and ready. Owners gave me a run of names an calls, stop them if mud builds up on feet an scrape it off. [foot may settle crooked an twist ankle] Face rear with shoulder leaning on leg, light grab over the hoof and I jacked up a horse easier than lifting a gallon of milk. They could be Service Dogs for Giants. *** 6 year olds were driving teams in the afternoon with a guide walking 10-20 feet behind. Magic day,

    I love the idea of laying the nail onto the hoof wall and starting the clinching process with the foot forward. Up until now, I've always bent the nail down and dealt with it that way. I have stocks, but prefer to work on the ground when the horse behaves. Your video helped me to do a better job. Thank you

      I had an 18.3 2,000 pound Percheron for a hobby horse, that I rode. I found he would break the drawn clips off the front feet in two weeks, he was so strong and powerful. I went to welded on clips and they would last thru two or three resettings. There was only one farrier in Michigan that had them, because he welded them up for the draft owners.

      The nails bent up at the start was new to me too. I've only ever seen then through the hoof and bent down towards the shoe.
      (Saw first hand why the smart move is to do one at a time as well. Hoof down farriers leg with the nail not clipped, 40 stitches need to close the gash in the farriers calf).

I guess that's enough questions for now. I'm about to google this. 😆😆😆

    What is the advantage of hot shoeing?

  • @SansaStarkofWinterfell
    @SansaStarkofWinterfell 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder, does this particular horse over reach with his left hind leg and that's why the farrier trimmed off so much of the toe as he did? To prevent clipping the heel of the left front leg? It sort of looked like it in the very small bit of the clip at the end and sounded like it, but that's hard to judge by what little was there.
    🌾Merry meet 🌿

    • @Saartje05
      @Saartje05 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trimming to toe is to fit the front clip of the horse shoe in. So it's more in the hoof than on. My farrier used to do the same. Most of the farriers I know do it like that.

  • @alidahall8726
    @alidahall8726 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Since it's a draft horse and bigger than a thoroughbred or a pony it will get tiring for the farrier and they're very powerful horses hense the tying the hooves at some point and I'm sure they teach the horse that it won't hurt them from a young age so the horse won't balk or kick and the farrier has to keep a eye on the horses body movement and ear movement.

    • @caspiablue6605
      @caspiablue6605 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My knowledge is not perfect, but from what I know the shoe is not put on hot. It is pressed against the hoof while hot so it will be a more comfortable fit, but when it is actually nailed on it is relatively cool. This means the shoes fit better on the horse, and therefore are more comfortable and effective.

    Shoeing a horse looks like an expensive necessity. How long does the standard set of shoes last and how much does a four shoe job cost.

    • @thomasfaltejsek
      @thomasfaltejsek 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what sort of surface the horses are worked on and what the shoes are made of. In some environments the shoes would be worn down very rapidly. But in general the farrier can remove the shoes, trim the hooves, and put back on the same shoes, 2-3 or more times, every 6-8 weeks.

    Also no shits given to the correct hpa angle. Just trim rough as guts(if you could call that a trim) and burn on . It will be right mate , fuck the longevity of the horse's working life.

    That halter is absolutely horrendous with the rope incorrectly through it. Just makes me wanna ask more questions.

    • @Saartje05
      @Saartje05 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a normal halter. He just pulled the rope through to have more control. The horse weighs at least ten times more than the guy. With the rope like that he has a LITTLE more control over the horse, but if it want it can take off just like that, with guy, rope and halter and all. It doesn't hurt him. Many people do it just for a short moment.

    Why do they insist on amputating their horses' tails. No protection against flies, it's cruel.

    • @phoenixc7245
      @phoenixc7245 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not cruel because they dock them so that they don't get their tails stuck in the harness or wheels

    that horses tail is ready short it cant get the flys away from its back side!

    • @phoenixc7245
      @phoenixc7245 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They use fly spray they docked it so that it doesn't get snagged up in the harness
