LIRR Wreck Extra 100 w/SW1001s Tows M7s on the Atlantic Branch

- Long Island Rail Road Wreck Extra 100 makes it's way east on the Atlantic Branch to Hillside Yard. Wreck Exta 100 is tasked with transporting the damaged M7 pair (7553/7554) of the train that ran into the bumper block a week prior, utilizing a SW1001 on either end. This is the first time diesels have visited Atlantic in over a decade. The consist was as follows;
+LI 100 (EMD SW1001)
-LI 7553 (Bomberdier M7 EMU)
-LI 7554 (Bomberdier M7 EMU)
+NYAR 101 (EMD SW1001)
This video displays the train departing Atlantic Terminal then passing Nostrand Ave, East New York & Jamaica Station Track 8. LIRR "borrowed" New York & Atlantic Railway's SW1001 due to the shortage of SW's available on Long Island. EMD SW1001s are the ONLY locomotives allowed on the Atlantic Branch west of DUNTON Interlocking because of clearance issues.

I believe that the undamaged east car (7554) of that pair has been coupled to another M7 odd numbered car that also had its mate damaged in a wreck.
Nice clips, I really like the glass and steel look at Jamaica station, it wasn't much to look at when I lived on LI in the 80s
I kinda get a sense of how 101 got in back.
100 Pulled the set out of Track 6, 101 Pulled itself into Track 5. 100 Pulled the set into Track 5, where 101 coupled it. It was then moved.

NYAR was short one diesel that day.
That diesel is leased under the terms that the LIRR can take it back anytime they need it.

And to this day, that pair is still sitting outside the Arch St shops. I pass it every day on the (7) train. Just left there to rust. If you ask me, they could take salvageable parts from them, therefore they won’t go to waste.
I think 7554 has been coupled to an odd car (7033 or 7043) which needed a mate after its original mate was damaged in a mishap with a work train in New Hyde Park. I saw it recently in service near Jamaica station.
@@1575murray Wouldn't be surprised as 7554 only suffered axle damage which could be repaired fairly easy.
Fun fact: I was actually on M7 7043 on 2/8/2021 as part of a Babylon bound train. However, the bathroom wasn't in good condition unfortunately.
Why did that train depart track 5 when the crash was on track 6? Those don't appear to be the damaged trains.

How bad was the smoke? Was wondering if the fans kept up with it.
w2dsx Really no smoke at all inside the tunnels and the terminal. Both are "naturally" vented through grates in the ceilings which is why the terminal and tunnels are always cold in the winter.
That's a very good question because I wanted to know if the sw1001s are they dual purpose or are they strictly diesel because when I used to live in New York I had never seen a diesel on the Atlantic branch inside what was called when I live there Alantic Avenue Station

Major front end damage. Axle damage. I don't know of anything else with the train. But in Atlantic Term. a MTA/LIRR employee office was severely damaged. (Has been sorta fixed but looks quite different). The bumper block was severely damaged. Now a new bright yellow bumper block is there, it extends out pretty far. It looks like one from one of the train yards.

4:01 That looks like a Scary Station to be in...
It was a lot more scary in the early 1980's before the MTA started fixing up the station complex. Among other things when it rained water came right into the station from the street above. The IRT subway station was even worse...some of the supporting columns at this stop and at Nevins St. had to be replaced to keep the street above from collapse.
east new york is a dumpy part of queens also unsafe
