This one and the first Vacation movie are the best ones of the series. Even more impressive is the fact the Chevy Chase did almost all of his own stunts and when he goes into the rant about his boss, where he's using all those off the wall insults, the director knew Chevy was going ad lib that part, so he told the rest of the cast to each think up an insult and write it on a card. Then, while all of their backs are to the camera and Chevy goes into his rant, they held up their cards, challenging him to use their words in the rant and he did it in one take. Also, the actress that plays Aunt Bethany, Mae Questel, played the famous classic cartoon characters, Betty Boop and Olive Oyl back in the 1930s and 1940s.
I was Clark Griswold for Halloween years ago, its one of the best costumes I've ever done, I had the Santa hat and the sweater with a toy squirrel glued to the back of it, I even won a costume contest with it, I still wear it at Christmas time
Christmas Vacation is one of the rare 3rd installments that is better than the original. It doesn't hurt that Christmas Vacation is also one of the greatest Christmas movies ever made. So many great, classic moments. Thank you, John Hughes for giving us three of the best Christmas movies ever made.
@LukeLovesRose Ahem I am so sorry to tell you this but the late John Hughes had nothing to do with European Vacation! He didn''t write, produce or direct it! Vacation and Christmas Vacation films yes were based on his short stories featured in National Lampoon. European Vacation was not in National Lampoon and he didn't have anything to do with that movie and ditto for Vegas Vacaton! Take care. 🎅🦌☃🎥
@@SuperMarioBrosIIIactually Hughes did do a story treatment for European Vacation and has a credit on it, but didn’t do the final script nor direct. But he was slightly involved early in. Had nothing to do with Vegas though.
The stereo that got smashed by the ice through the window, is a Bang & Olufsen. At the time, it was probably the highest quality and most expensive stereo on the market.
One of my mum's favourite moments in this movie. B&O is still insanely expensive, though admittedly their designs look less impressive than they did 30 years ago
One of my favourite Christmas movies. Me and my dad watch it every year! The older you get, the more you understand the “it’s Christmas and we’re all in misery” as well as Clark’s outburst and stress.
One of my favorites. Every year that my brothers and I get together for Christmas, we will sit around and just quote this movie until we are all crying from laughter 😂
I never noticed that before. I suppose it's a gentle nod to the fact the employees are kinda sucking up to the boss and ironically all, get him the same gift, thus making their efforts futile because their gifts can't be distinguished individually and therefore nobody will gain the edge of standing out and impressing the boss 😂
This reminds me of Christmas '89. I was 12 and my cousin, his wife and their new baby daughter spent Christmas at our house. It was one of the coolest times of my life.
Walmart was on the rise at the time and they advertised the ish out of it. Juliette Lewis plays the eldest child. She went on to a very fine career after this. I kinda like how at first she was embarrassed to be seen outside waiting for the lights to go on and when they didn't, she defended her father after the one grandmother insulted him. That was a nice moment. Oh and the theme song rocks. It's one of my favorite Christmas songs ever.
When Christmas Vacation was out originally, I hadn't gone sledding in years. But I learned later that spraying Pam cooking spray on the bottom of your sled was actually a thing and suddenly the scene in the movie got that much funnier.
Clark's boss is Bill Murray's brother and also appeared in the original National Lampoon Vacation, as the manager of the camp site that asks to register.
Hi Cassie & Carly, I`m glad you enjoyed this Christmas Classic !! My very Best Wishes to both of you & your families for a Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year !! Also similarly, Season`s Greetings to all your other Subscribers & commentators !!
For me, it's my Christmas Eve movie, because it ends on Christmas Eve (and it's also my favorite Christmas movie, so I save it until almost last). Christmas Day, I watch A Christmas Story, since it ends on Christmas, lol.
Every single National Lampoon vacation movie ( four I think, original, European, Christmas, Las Vegas) the kids are different. It is one of the running gags that Clark will say something like they need to go on vacation because he doesn't even recognize the kids anymore. Sometimes the oldest is a boy, sometimes a girl.
The girl is the older sibling in all the movies. All of the Audrey actresses were older than the Rusty actors in real life, and Dana Barron (the original Audrey actress) said that Audrey was written as the older sibling.
I don't think I've ever seen Cassie as doubled-up in laughter as she was when the SWAT team raided thr house at the end. And I love that this is a movie you can say that about it
I grew up in DC and my mother's family is in New York. I saw this for the first time at my cousin's house in Huntington Long island. We always saw the best tv shows up there because they had HBO. This was so fun to watch with you two! I had tears in my eyes the entire time!!! Thank you for watching this!
They're fairly old in Vegas Vacation. Clark even mentions that he hardly recognizes them anymore. Also, the 2015 Vacation followed an adult Rusty, played by another actor of course. Also, I don't know if you want to consider it canon, but the promotional video Hotel Hell Vacation, has an adult Rusty in it.
Something about Beverly D'Angelo continues to make me feel warm in, around and under the collar - even all of these years later. No matter how whacky Clark gets, I'm always looking for her trying to smile in the background.
It is funny every time I watch it. Like Planes, Trains and Automobiles. It never gets old. Great reaction. I am so glad your sister enjoyed this ridiculous movie. There is a place for this movie every year. Happy Holidays to all of you.
It's bittersweet to see that backlot street now that Warner Bros tore it all down this year to build new soundstages. The Murtaugh's house from Lethal Weapon is where the neighbors live next door to the right. Adam The Woo got access to tour the WB Ranch in it's last days. Feel like I grew up on this street through the movies! 🎥 🎬

My uncle was a police officer and he passed away unexpectedly a few years ago. At his funeral luncheon, one of his fellow officers asked everyone to quiet for a blessing over the meal. And then he started reciting the pledge of allegiance. Everyone at the station stood up and put their hands over their hearts. This was his favorite movie and it’s now one that I watch every Christmas without fail. ❤️
This movie was a staple in my house. I love watching it with my dad. It’s just so relatable cause you feel like Clark Rowalt could be your dad and the relatives are so real. The humor is not over the top. It’s just funny because Clark has a good heart
Merry Christmas Cassie and Carly. Hope you and your loved ones have the best holiday season. 😇 Also, I heard a 'Fetch'. When Carly says Fetch, an Angel gets his wings. ☺️
"Christmas. As in, Yule. Yule Log. Not a log, I don't have a log, I mean, you know...If I had a log. Not in the sense that you think I said I did..." 😁🎄
In the scene where Clark goes on his tirade everybody standing in front of him was wearing signs that had his lines just to make sure it could go smoothly.
This movie is unique in my opinion, because most others like to depict an absentee father or some other major flaw. Now obviously Clark is flawed, but he is such a family man and all he wants is for his family to have the best Christmas ever.
This was awesome. Yes ,our family tradition for years. So much so.....this Thursday we are doing a Christmas Vacation bingo night....can't wait...great job ladies
I don’t care what anyone says. Saying someone’s heart is bigger than their brain is a huge compliment. It’s not your fault if you’re not smart. It is your fault if you’re not nice.
One of my favorite moments rarely gets shown in the movie reaction videos. When Clark and Ellen are singing in the car at the start of the movie "Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la. Take it Russ" and its just silence.
And Clark waits until the verse would be done, then goes right into the chorus like nothing happened! (Technically nothing *did* happen, but you know what I mean.) ;)
@@darthken815 And yet you still forgot one! No one seems to remember Hotel Hell: Vacation from (2010) that stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D' Angelo reprising their roles yet again LOL! It's a movie short! Funnier than the reboot in 2015 too!🏨🚗🎥🛣
I had a friend, his name was Thomas, his mother was the sweetest blonde bombshell I ever saw, even into her later years. She had such a joyful spirit and I remember watching her watch "overboard" back in the early 90's on tv while she folded some laundry. Cassie: "Did he grow up to be someone?"
Me: Just David in Roseanne and The Conners, and Lennard in The Big Bang Theory.
Hoping Carly heals from that wrist injury! Love you both so much! Merry Christmas and best wishes!!
"Christmas. As in, Yule. Yule Log. Not a log, I don't have a log, I mean, you know...If I had a log. Not in the sense that you think I said I did..."
😁🎄
Fun fact: The actress who played Aunt Bethany was the voice for the original Betty Boop cartoons.
In the scene where Clark goes on his tirade everybody standing in front of him was wearing signs that had his lines just to make sure it could go smoothly.
True! But the signs only had a name on each, and Clark would look around at them and fire them off for the scene.
This movie is unique in my opinion, because most others like to depict an absentee father or some other major flaw. Now obviously Clark is flawed, but he is such a family man and all he wants is for his family to have the best Christmas ever.
He is flawed beyond measure, but his wife, even though she sees his folly, still loves and supports him. She never cuts him down.
“Then why is the carpet all wet?! IDONT KNOW, MARGO”
I don’t think I’ve ever seen you guys laugh and smile so much. I really enjoyed this. 😁
Malls were beautiful at Christmas, I loved them too.
But like, not during the last few days of shopping season. Like, early to mid December. 😊
This was awesome. Yes ,our family tradition for years. So much so.....this Thursday we are doing a Christmas Vacation bingo night....can't wait...great job ladies
"When was the last time I overdid anything?"
I hope that was a rhetorical question.
Merry Christmas Ladies!!!
Merry Christmas to all!
Cassie makes me wanna buy popcorn.
I don’t care what anyone says. Saying someone’s heart is bigger than their brain is a huge compliment. It’s not your fault if you’re not smart. It is your fault if you’re not nice.
This is our go to Christmas movie for the last 7 years, it’s now a family tradition to watch it every Christmas.
"Save the neck for me, Clark"
Merry Christmas
"Grace? Grace died 30 years ago"
"nawt G R A C E. The bless-SING!"
😂😂😂
One of my favorite moments rarely gets shown in the movie reaction videos. When Clark and Ellen are singing in the car at the start of the movie "Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la. Take it Russ" and its just silence.
And Clark waits until the verse would be done, then goes right into the chorus like nothing happened! (Technically nothing *did* happen, but you know what I mean.)
;)
The old man saying "THE BLESSING!" was the funniest part for me. I still laugh to tears at his expression...
I'm glad Cassie and Carly saw the first Vacation movie so they know who cousin Eddie is when he and his family show up.
Ho Ho Ho ... Merry Xmas Clark 😂😂😂😂

Thanks for jogging my memory. 👍🏿
@@darthken815 Yes! With Dana Barron, the daughter from the original Vacation movie.
I had a friend, his name was Thomas, his mother was the sweetest blonde bombshell I ever saw, even into her later years. She had such a joyful spirit and I remember watching her watch "overboard" back in the early 90's on tv while she folded some laundry. Her joy and laughter always reminds me of Cassie when she sees these types of films for the first time. Oh, how like a wave in the universe we all are, and I could not be happier to be witness to it. Christ be with you all.
This is my favorite Vacation movie!
Cassie, you're gonna love this one! 😎
Cassie said she's seen it a few times, but not in 10 years or so. I don't know if I would forget much about this crazy movie, even if I didn't watch it yearly!!
That special effect explosion of him rocketing down the hill is the funniest gag for me. It's not even 1 second of screentime yet it gets me laughing every time.
