I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! No echo chamber; calm debate where it was obvious neither side was waiting on their turn to speak and rebut the others point but genuinely interested in the response for understanding and betterment of the narrative. Well done ! Conversation leads to understanding…. Not necessarily agreement but that’s how it starts.

Great discussion, as a son of Dutch immigrants who moved to Canada after German occupation and all the atrocities that went along with that, I can't think of a more harmful mindset for myself than to hold Germans responsible for my shortcomings. I understand the circumstances and setting are different, but the power imbalance that seems to be the justification for outrage on so many things these days was every bit as real. Every one of us has to do the best with what we've been given, and nothing enslaves us more than unforgiveness..

the difference being friend your homeland and people were liberated post WW2 after those terrorists were annihilated, my family fought for Europe and the world to be free meanwhile there was no freedom and respect waiting for them when they returned Thomas Prince the most decorated Indian warrior from multiple wars of the 19th century had no recognition until the past decade, he died poor and disrespected had to sell his medals in some cases to get by, to this day we are not free people our sovereignty is nonexistent and our homeland is under foreign occupation to this day by a foreign system in the Crown, we could be so much better off with a unified republic by the people for the people and as a unified people with duel heads of state in a tribal Indian and a colonial immigrant, this is the only way forward and what I am teaching my people that we must strive for unity and the end of the foreign occupation and system that holds us all in servitude Canadian and Indigenous alike.

@@benjaminh4537 Totally with you on getting rid of the Crown. Not sure about your remedy though. I live in Northern BC and the examples of anger and division are piling up quickly trying to implement two sets of rules for two sets of people living side by side. I don’t think that’s what you’re advocating, but that is what’s happening here. I have worked alongside First Nations people(who, by the way, have always been as free as I am) all my life and it grieves me to feel more and more hostility from those whom I have wished nothing but the best for. I believe the oppressor/ victim narrative is divisive and will not produce the results you are hoping for.

Thought about your response quite a bit for quite awhile. I think that as long as you look to the past for your motivation, you will blind yourself to blessings in the present. I don’t think your solution is achievable and you will doom yourself and your people to a life of anger and recrimination if all you can see is the wrongs. Please consider a better way that includes forgiveness and the desire to see the good in things

She has a disdain for Indians and is biased in her opinions she only has minimal pieces of the whole story and attempts to paint the whole picture with it, she is defending a Canada that never existed and portraying the wrong message on the subject to all, none of us Indians claimed there was bodies we stated potential bodies there is anomalies, and our communities sure as hell cannot afford to pay for forensic archeologists to come in and search each anomaly, and our traditions and culture forbids us from just grabbing a shovel and digging them up in the chance that it is a body of our elders or ancestors, so the Crown and the Church committed the crimes including the RCMP they should be the ones to pay for it under the watchful eye of selected Indians from each nation to ensure the accuracy and that there is no tampering when bodies are exhumed and they will be, the situation though is the bodies will not be found by the schools they will be found a distance away from the schools they would never have the evidence close by where they sleep that is for certain, there was also children sold in child trafficking rings from these schools this lady doesn't have a damn clue what took place, she is attempting to bury the whole situation along with her organization, there ultra-right wing fanatics, I am naturally right wing many Indians are but sometimes there is crazy people and organizations that organization just so happens to be one of them, there is much work to be done it will take decades thats to get to the bottom of it and the whole story will not be uncovered there was and still is a massive cover up with the genocide of Indians and the residential schools the RCMP the Crown and the Churches involved, they fought us in court to keep the records from us why, and the truth and reconciliation commission is taking Canada to court as well for records they will not give them up, some of the members even found decades old records in the trash and had to climb in there to get them out, Canadas government is claiming to be all for reconciliation meanwhile stabbing us in the back which is typical nothing has ever been honored by Canada or the Crown, we are being used as a political pawn for the liberals its gross and I will fight these bastards to the end of time to see my people free from the terrorist Crown and to see Canadians free from its servitude as well.

Thank you both for raising all these valid points of view. This is the first time I have been witness to such logic on this topic. I respect those who spend their lives researching the past so that the rest of us can grab it in a book, an article or two and a few interviews. Once the truth is established.
However, I feel so deeply for young Canadians, native, born here and immigrated here that should be encouraged to look to the future. Do they want a family? How to live a great life and raise kids, help the elderly and those in need. Maybe help to defeat the Opioid Addiction crisis. Try to make this world - or even your local community a better place for young people to look forward to flourishing with successful lives. History is a story about the past. What are You doing about your future? What are you doing to help other people? What are you doing to help the innocent kids coming up? Are you working hard to help? Or are you commiserating about a past that nothing can be done about?

No, there are a couple of hundred kids that didn't come home just in my tribe. I've never heard of them being murdered...we had questions about deaths due to neglect of proper medical care and poor nutrition, but abuse seemed to vary depending on the schools. My tribal area was split up across the Country and some enjoyed their experiences. It was also the good ones that allowed kids to write, send us letters and pictures, come home for Christmas...the school church would do collections to fly kids home, I had an Uncle who went to Saskatchewan and graduated. with only scars of loneliness as he puts it. But the one I went to...once you were there you didn't hear from or see your parents until the summer and only for one month. We resisted, some parents went to jail for assaulting police officers to stop them from taking kids. They would sneak up on us and surround small groups that could fill a plane. It was a real thing that varied based on the religion that ran the schools.

The government attacks on family, the fact that “ parents do not have parental rights and only responsibility to deal with shortcomings of educational systems “ as we find out from NDP , the fact that for basic survival we need more and more time to spend at work then pay attention to our children. The deindustrialization of Canada as well as US leaving a huge population without possibility of finding purpose. All that has effect on number of people that cannot become a part of our community.

@@biggerthanmepodcast For several reasons. I started to get annoyed when you took a position and made your opinion cloud the conversation by trying to paint Polievre with the same brush as the liberals by saying “but you’re playing the same thing in reverse…” Polievre’s objections and distrust of the liberal media’s biased and loaded questioning is valid. The mainstream media is incredibly opposed to conservatives and by defending them, you bring your own credibility into question with me. Then to say “a lack of evidence isn’t evidence” shows your own incredible bias. In western society, we are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and lack of evidence certainly does mean the church is innocent of the accusations leveled at them, until someone proves otherwise with real evidence. Otherwise it would be fair for me to say “Although we have no evidence that Trudeau’s government didn’t conspire with the Kelowna FN to manufacture the whole story for political purposes, I’m going to say he did.” Its ridiculous. You not seeing that flaw in your own logic shows you are clouded by liberal bias. I know you are trying to be fair and somewhat succeeded but you still failed. I thank you for introducing me to Candice though. She comes across to me as extremely level-headed and honest.

I will intentionally avoid click bait titles. If it is a good story and well written it is not needed. I clicked on the title because I agree with it. We do need less government. The 'fixes/programs' from the government have only caused more harm than good. I found the same restrictions regarding trying to start my own business. Thank you, it was a good interview with Candice Malcolm. I agree the reserves have not been good for the people they have been given to. The segregation of Canadians based upon if they were here a few hundred years sooner is harmful to Canadian society as a whole and is used by Trudeau over and over to divide and buy votes. He is doing the same thing with the illegal immigration. He sees many people are upset with his terrible policies and is trying to bring in more people who will take his lies using fear that he will expel them from the country if they don't.

@1 hour and 8 minutes you said you want a leader that will stand by their principals no matter what. I would actually disagree with that. I would rather have a leader that is willing to change those principals if they get some other perspectives. Obviously if they change their mind on something they should explain why they changed their mind. I think that is a problem the liberals are having. They are so focused on certain issues that at this point they cant walk any of them back even though its obvious their plan isnt working. A real leader is willing to admit when things arent going well and change course.
I've heard that happened at SpaceX and Tesla somewhat often where they would put a lot of time and effort into something and they would be willing to throw everything away if they came up with a better plan. Not saying a government can run that way but it would be nice if our leaders were more flexible.

She intentionally withheld the answer to a question that she posed as part of her 'whataboutism'' defense. She asked more than once: Where are you going to get the names of the missing children? How will you find them? The answer she wanted you to come to is "ya. nowhere, I guess. no point to continue looking into residential schools then." It is a critical part of her defense. It is Quantitative; Researchable. But that challenge will put off most people. It is reasonable.
In her Encore, when she was telling him she knew he wants to conclude (using a form of flattery), she says that there ARE names! They are a finding from the Truth & Reconcilliation Report! She knew the correct NUMBER of names! There IS a starting point!
