I'm not gonna lie; I've had a lot of reservations about stormgate despite being a backer all the way back to when it opened up last year. However, these changes do make me feel like the game is somewhat on the right path, and I'll be watching with great interest. That said, there's still a lot of work that needs to be done to make Stormgate great, but this is a sizable step in the right direction. I absolutely *LOVE* the lighting and terrain changes; that was something that was desperately needed, and goes a long way to making the game significantly less plastic and boring. I REALLY want fully-cusomizable hotkeys, rather than just hotkey modifiers, but this is a good change to start. Additionally I think the game needs to figure out what it's doing with both its creep units and the armies currently. TTK is absurdly long, especially for how sizable some of these armies can get. The game feels more deathball-y than any of its predecessors save maybe WoL because there's no lethality to the majority of units. I also generally don't feel like Creeps work particularly well in this game outside of the vision camps; creeps really don't feel meaningful outside of the super early game. They also stop being particularly meaningful in terms of strategical decision making. They give you money, but there is no strategic trade off for doing them - partially because they take no time to do at all. Worse, they tend to snowball games really, really quickly in favour of the player who is winning, such that they effectively remove any comeback mechanic for players that might be behind. If you're ahead, making the decision to take one or multiple creep camps should alleviate some pressure on your opponent and be a strategical commitment that your opponent could potentially take advantage of since they're no longer in an optimal position, or alternatively, be something that a player who is behind could feasibly sneak to give them an advantage to help them come back into the game. This just isn't the case currently. Then there's the campaign; currently it just feels like we're rehashing the story of WC3 with Amara being a stand-in for Arthas. I hope you can carve out a unique story that engages players. Mission 0 in particular desperately needed changes, so I'll be looking forward to seeing what happens here. Amara's model changes look incredible; I hope that her cinematic changes come sooner rather than later because they're painful to look at otherwise. Again, the changes I've seen so far are big steps in the right direction; and I'll be watching and waiting closely.
Making creeps have significantly more HP but less attack could make a difference. If creeping would force your army to stay in camp location for much longer, that would mean your opponent gets a breather right?
I agree with most of your statement but I will counter that siege camps are pretty helpful, especially in co-op maps in the early stages as you can escort one to the enemy base and after taking out the defenders you can just let it peel away at that side while you do something else.
Not entirely true. The speed camp and siege camps are strategic, as well as the healing camp. That being said you're right. They kind of don't "Belong" in an rts like this. The reason it worked in WC3 was because of heros and the items you got.

@@TravisHowrish-v2c they just showed how much they can improve within a month?! What they show in this video is not bad at all. Obviously artstyle is a very subjective matter. If you prefer gritty and/or realistic graphics then this artstyle is just not your cup of tea. That does not make it "bad". The current patch artwork can be considered "bad" in the style it wants to be. Fair enough. But the improvements are coming as they have shown. If you critize the art direction in general tho, using the terms good or bad is just wrong. Games like "kena bridge of spirits" use a stylized artstyle as well and I personally really like it while others will think it is childish. Also, in what world is the starting point crappy? They have a solid foundation in terms of unit control and pathfinding. 100x better than a lot of other RTS. From the start it's been clear the game in still work in progress, and people are judging it like it's supposed to a fully completed game. The game is already really cool, with awesome design choices behind it, and with every update it becomes cooler and cooler. I say, keep the cool coming!

The turnaround on the improvements yall have made is insane honestly. I can't begin to stress how much better the environments look, and I'm excited for more co-op and campaign content as those are my favorite modes. 1v1 is always important, but for more casual players like myself I love me a good coop mission. I have hundreds of hours in sc2 coop so I'm glad someone is working on a successor :)
My biggest critique as a viewer was definently the map tiles looking so undercooked. Im glad its more visually pleasing. Its an important detail for casuals.
@@Frodonsake24 I mean there are already wayyy less people shittalking the game. It pobably needs another few updates to show them all, but it is getting better

Please take notice! You must rethink the first campaign. I want you to focus the invasion of the teaser on the harm to human society rather than the gateway as a result of human action. What about a direct attack by demons to establish a gateway? I'll look more fantastic. And this is where the hero will be sent to protect friends and civilians. Simply concentrate on one hero in the first stage. In the second level, add base intervention and assault other bases.Do not include the other heroes yet. Instead, add them in third when you need to defend lanes when heroes require aid with two distinct approaches dependent on their heroes' weapons. Make the hammer-wielding hero function like a machine mechanic rather than a Paladin with samuro abilities. Make it drill using the hammer's handle. Why? Because you may use it to explain his origins in people. The latter chapter is about a lack of multi-hero purpose despite the fact that several pathways are accessible. Use their powers as an introduction, rather than simply providing information via voice line. And for the last task, make it a Lake 1v1 encounter against Enemy Lord. Forget about human betrayals. Make it completely demon slavery. Add them to a later story to give it a different impact. You can transform the last level of the boss narrative into a campaign about stopping the demons from retaking your settlement after destroying many outposts. The fight is 1v1 with one hero. The adversary will not chase or send units. But they will gradually expand their base and produce minions to protect it, so the game will teach you not to rely solely on the hero as an offensive unit, as I did in the beta test, where I used Amara to destroy all of their bases in the final run.
Thanks for all your work here! On my end, I'm waiting until the game is closer to full release, or outright at full release before playing more. But I'm very excited to see what you guys do with the game! I truly wish you the best of luck, and much success in the coming months, and years.
I was well aware that the graphics are only temporary and would be continued to be improved upon with time but it was still getting in the way of my enjoyment and so I'm very glad that there has been such a huge update so early. Thank you. Also, Push priority, Yayyyyyy! As a zerg main over in SC2, the Ultralisks saddened me for years with its struggles. oooh. Smart attack. I like it. I had macro'd attack moving to a thumb button on my mouse in sc2 to make it easier for me. This is a huge boon also.
I truely love your rework of Amara, she looks really fantastic now! :O This lights up my interest in seeing how all those characters will look like when remodeled. Same goes for textures, lighting enhancements and all those interesting new features, great work guys!
Thank you for updating her face. I grew watching Jim Henson productions and couldn't not see the "brats of the lost nebula" in her face. This is a much welcomed change and i can't wait to see what else you guys do!
Looking good so far, I'm also happy to announce that the optimization was improved with the last updates, and now it's more or less playable even on vega 8, while also looking better. Still i'd like to have an option to turn off some heavy VFX, and maybe more graphics customisation in general, though i know the game is early in developement, but i'd get to enjoy the game even more. Because now, it doesn't look like its' minimum requirement is 1060 besides from some particle effects.
I do want this game to succeed even though I've been critical of it in my comments on various videos about it. I think we shouldn't have even seen any screenshot of the game until visuals got at least to a point of this update. This new look make the game way more attractive. And I'm not saying this for me, I can enjoy a game with bad graphics if I like mechanics, but I know how casuals tend to pick their games. If it doesn't look immediately attractive at first glance they tend to pass on it, and that initial look is really boring. Nothing really eye catching there. Loving pathfinding improvements too. This will get me to return to Infernals. I ended up switching to Vanguard because of how much smoother their overall army movement seemed and how annoying it was to engage their armies with Brutes constantly getting stuck behind Gaunts. Please release this NOW. :D I cannot wait to play the new version. I've returned to Starcraft II these last couple weeks, but I'm definitely getting on Stormgate again once patch is out.
Co-op is currently what I enjoy the most. Blasted all heroes to 15 and finding zero reason to play now. Would love some prestige or paragon levels added to the heroes, to incentivize continual play beyond level 15.
@@FrostGiantStudios wow 😮 frost giant replied!! More levels is cool, have you considered infinite paragon levels like from diablo 3? I also enjoyed grinding out 1000 matches in StarCraft 2 for the insane race portraits. More levels more rewards!
Awesome. These quality updates should be no surprise to anybody. Speedwise, they've been crushing it since they first announced the project. Early Access was just that-an early version. Anyone who is surprised that they're making this game more awesome by the week needs to realize how long developing something like this is supposed to take. There's a lot more awesomeness to come. Remember how bad SC2 was when it first launched compared to where it ended up.
Thank you for staying motivated. You keep delivering despite a few backlashes regarding the early access release. I love this game so far, been a supporter since day one and I'm really happy to see how you pick up on all the feedback provided by the community. I've done a few closed beta tests, some dating back quite a while, and Stormgate really is the first game where I truly feel heard - not personally, but as part of a community striving to build a great RTS.
Amara's update looks great. One of the poorest aging parts of RTS games are the cutscenes that zoom in on units in the field and you've done a lot to mitigate that.
Well, I'll be honest with you: I was a total hater of many aspects of SG, especially art. The game is still has a ton things to improve, BUT... These changes are good. Well done, Frostgiant, well done. I'll hope you will make it and the game will still have a chance.
You're right! These are some great changes in the right direction and in a very short amount of time. If they keep improving at this rate, I think full release could be a pretty sweet game.
These changes look great. I think a lot of people were quick to judge since RTS players aren't used to Early Access and what it truly means when used right. Good job responding to what people care about.
I am super hyped for the new patch, gonna play a ton. I already have 400 1v1 matches, I am planning on trying coop with some friends this weekend too, can't wait!
Looked at the trailer and things seemed a bit generic without being able to explain it, then looked at the re-work you did for Amara and it looks so good - I'm not really into these types of games but as you're former Blizzard Devs I really hope this is a success for you.
Still a long way to go until co-op feels as good as SC2, but this is definitely going towards the right path, looking forward to future updates if this one came out packing with so many things and so fast.
This is the road to becoming a great game One suggestion is to focus on the story telling to get the players to like the universe of storm gate Who are the infernals and celestials, what are their origins and so on

I am genuinely surprised how much better everything looks just after adjusting lighting. Like, infintely better. Readability very much improved
Lots of great changes, I think this gives hope to a lot of people about Stormgate, myself included.
Great updates! The terrain looks so much better. The new Amara design is fantastic!
The longer shadow drop singlehandedly made the game so much more convincing
Wow that lighting change made a huge difference! Looks a lot better!
I truely love your rework of Amara, she looks really fantastic now! :O
This lights up my interest in seeing how all those characters will look like when remodeled.
Same goes for textures, lighting enhancements and all those interesting new features, great work guys!
I hope this game will be finished and accepted by community! Good luck to you guys.
Thanks for the content update drop.
This update addressed so much! I also thought the game was way too "flat" looking before. It looks a lot better now. Bravo!
Thank you for updating her face. I grew watching Jim Henson productions and couldn't not see the "brats of the lost nebula" in her face. This is a much welcomed change and i can't wait to see what else you guys do!
Frost Giant, just keep on going! I know it must be tough, especially with the high expectations, but if you keep going this game is gonna be sick.
God this is sad.
It just keeps improving. Every update is so noticeable. Keep up the fantastic work FG, but please give yourselves a break every now and then!
Wow, I havent seen a significant patch as this in ages. Congratulations.
In SC2 there is a hotkey that let's you jump your camera between bases. Would love to see the same hotkey in Stormgate!
I've been enjoying playing and commentating Stormgate and seeing the game improve and develop brings me even more excitement!
Well this just made the game ten times better
unit pathing in large battles has been driving me nuts
thank god weavers can move through stuff, they were a real pain to control
Wow. Great improvements. The game is now more interesting for me. Thanks, and keep improving this game.
Excited about the new map and that push priority thing particularly. Keep up the great work guys!
Yes! Excited for the new improvements, definetly looks better
We will be adding lvl 16-20 to Co-Op Heroes later on in development. For now, have you tried the new weekly mutators to change up your challenges?
@@FrostGiantStudios wow 😮 frost giant replied!!
More levels is cool, have you considered infinite paragon levels like from diablo 3?
I also enjoyed grinding out 1000 matches in StarCraft 2 for the insane race portraits. More levels more rewards!
@@FrostGiantStudios mutators are cool and all but I need progression paths to make them worth while.
You guys are doing great improvements, thank you
That is a fantastic 1st content update !
Amara's update looks great. One of the poorest aging parts of RTS games are the cutscenes that zoom in on units in the field and you've done a lot to mitigate that.
Now, that's what call community focus. Great job Frost Giant!
Wow!!! In so little time the game can change so much great improvements
Such a big progress. Love to see all the work you are putting out
Well, I'll be honest with you: I was a total hater of many aspects of SG, especially art.
Wow, this update is looking really great.
Looks like a cool update! looking foward to some 2s and 3v3s.
thanks for everything frost giant. We believe in you!
That’s a huge improvement for Amara. We’re one update closer to getting the custom map tools.
These changes look great. I think a lot of people were quick to judge since RTS players aren't used to Early Access and what it truly means when used right. Good job responding to what people care about.
This is certainly a step in the right direction! Thank you for your efforts FG!
I am super hyped for the new patch, gonna play a ton. I already have 400 1v1 matches, I am planning on trying coop with some friends this weekend too, can't wait!
Coop is so fun!
Looked at the trailer and things seemed a bit generic without being able to explain it, then looked at the re-work you did for Amara and it looks so good - I'm not really into these types of games but as you're former Blizzard Devs I really hope this is a success for you.
I'm excited to get my hands on these updates. I see your passion and hard work in this game and look forward to seeing it progress.
Backed with the signed collectors edition and this makes me happy. Thank you Frost Giant.
The lack of hotkey customization has prevented me from playing until now, I'm excited to finally try the game for real!
this update looks much better, we need to get a new reallly nice game, with many improvements
I'm honestly so impressed at the pace you guys are working at considering the team size
They have something like 60 staff and access to more than $41M, most of which they've already blown through.
@@allanshpeley4284 where are you getting the spending stats from?
Yes. I just hope they don't crunch for that...
@@allanshpeley4284 so ? what's your point ?
@@Frodonsake24 Don't assume he is right lol he didn't give a source on the spending
Hope Stormgate gets better and better!
DANG, what an improvement.
This is a massive amount of stuff in such a short time! Well done!! ❤
Very very cool! Thanks for the work.
Those updates are better than I expected! Definitely going to hop in this weekend to try it out!
Still a long way to go until co-op feels as good as SC2, but this is definitely going towards the right path, looking forward to future updates if this one came out packing with so many things and so fast.
Great update! Hope You will continue this. We really want to see v1.0 some day! Keep going
Looks like a ton of great improvements! It's nice to see the game moving in the right direction! :)
So excited for the coop xp experience improvement
Thank you very much! I love you all @Devs! =))))))))))))))))))))))
The lighting change transformed the game from Generic to A serious game to take note of!
Exciting! 🎉
Amara's new model is actually pretty good 👍
Great update. Looking forward to jumping in to play.
This update looks amazing! Cannot wait to get in and play it!
This is the road to becoming a great game
One suggestion is to focus on the story telling to get the players to like the universe of storm gate
Who are the infernals and celestials, what are their origins and so on
AMAZING update, thats a lot of improvement. Especially for it beeing just one patch. Damn....
Great work!
Happy to see it , good work FG
Great updates so far! Keep on improving, it's an awesome sign to see lots of feedback taken and implemented.
