  • Almost impossible to find legendary studio recorder from Telefunken.
The T9 (U for Umshaltbar) is from 1949-50. comes with 2 speeds allready, 15ips and 30ips!
This high speed of 76cm per sec was still very common to achive a better fidelity up to 15-or 16khz, but nowadays eating too much tape.
Mainly trough Maino Remmers I heard about this rare baby being for sale in the neighbourhood of Oberhausen, near the dutch border.
All is working fine, and that is very rare thing being over 60 years old workhorse.
sadly the original tube amps are not there anymore, but for a nice sub there have been two M10 V396/ V397 transistor amps installed. Sounding even better I think.
Head block has been converted to proper STEREO HEADS.
Any tape head wanna battle this one?
    |Enjoy the footage!

The T9 dates back to 1948 or 1949, but the T9u came later in 1955.
I happen to own the very first T9u, serial 10001, originally configured in 1 inch 4 tracks.
Although I only have the main tape transport with empty heads block, I hope to find the heads someday. I already had the pinch roller rebuilt, but it's missing the top cover.
Otherwise it seems to work fine. You may check my AEG Magnetophon videos if you're interested by earlier models.

1:44 also a way to fix the compatibility issue, that German standard requires the coating outside, American inside.

At this time, 15 ips was for speech only, because 12 kHz maximum. 15 ips became later studio standard, when technology was enhanced. The speed 30 ips came back in the digital age, it was a request to better sound, because the CD could transport this, analogue cassette and record not.

Before CD, a pre recorded reel to reel tape was the best consumer medium.

Diese video sagt nichts uber die geheim dieses geraets. Mann rueckspult den Tonband, momentlich spielt, dann wieter rueckspult. Also, was war diese grosse Geheim? This video says nothing about the secret of this equipment. One rewinds the tape, momentarily plays, then further rewinds. So what was this great secret? (I can't use the umlaut here so I add the 'e' after the letter normally affected).

ADMIN: Hi Phai Ram. You can use my video for your sale,
if you can help me too. I am searching for the manual, or better service manual!
do you have them with your machines? If so, I would love to get a copy of my own.
Remember that these very old machines will likely always bring work to the table, starting with a good recap.
I also have two of these beasts . the T9U with transisters of the M10, fully working but needing a recap, and a T9A with original tube amps, and original console! From sweden, yes, from Sweden!
    Now situated in the netherlands
