I worked with this recorder when I was employed at AEG/TELEFUNKEN in the Netherlands. The NOS purchased a bunch of them, they were mounted on a cart called a magnomobiel, we made a interface casette for it.that was in 1972, Used to listen to a tape on it with Sticky Fingers from the Stones on it with my Senheiser headphones.
The Telefunken M10 was already used by the NRU (Nederlandse Radio Unie) in the 50's. I own one for nearly 50 year now. Great stereo recording/play deck. Mine is in the original trolley, with the pre-amps, and weights together at least 100Kg.
You know that telefunken was/is the best tapemaschine builder in world? ...on 2th place came studer! And the m10 is more comparison to the c37, but with tube or later with solidstade amps, meen m10, c37 was only tube! The m10 was better in sound and tapetransport, but studer are not far away from that Quality! ...love both, no queston ;) both are the tape builder in world!
Hey Tim, I can surely recommend them in terms of durability and own sound but they are a bit more for boradcast perposes but not much. that is only in the feel of the machine when working with them! WOW , A 12 track? that is rare , 4 tracks ok, and maybe even sometimes 8 but 12 of these badass channels are fat. must be 1 inch size tapes, 16 tracks were only made for the follow up, the more famous M12a usually. where are you about ? europe?
Hi and thanks very much for your reply , I’m English and based in France and have found one in France but there is no amplifier in it , wondering if you recommend I get it without an amp and what price I should pay ? and wonder how much an amplifier would be ?
not for sale, sorry. But the good news... over here in western - europe they are not that rare so there might be showing one up for you in near future. cheers
correction, since last 3 years you simply can not get an M10 anymore, only M15's , or weird M10s that have been fooled with or transformed. Forget about tubes, a lot went to china sadly
I have noticed a slight echo in the recording. Could it be that the magnetized particles on one layer of tape have sort of magnetized the layer next to it while being would up on one reel?
I have question please! ...have you maybe something to sell? A taperecorder?, bobby's?, maybe? ...i have see one thing in Youre video that would be interested for me, if you may want to sell!? ...please, please, let me know. I would be Happy to get an answer from you! ...many thanks!
tube tele recorders sound bass heavy with not much bass definition due to the telef tubes they use. change to brimar or mullard CV equivalent tubes for a better balance, or if you can afford it, GEC tubes! Phillips tubes give off a bright peaky sound thats not musical, like Revox G series.
Hey analog fans: I am thinking of selling my 2 track 1/2 inch Telefunken M10a. contact me here if you might be interested in owning an absolute upper class beast of a machine.

The warm, clear analogue sound from this machine is really quite something.

The 4 track M10 was the first one used at Abbey Road ( Then EMI Studios ) and all the early Beatles 4 track recordings were made on this machine.
Phenomenal. Smooth and warm with solid sound stage.
Beautiful machine and music.
I love your studio, Telefunken and Revox everywhere, and a nice bunch of vinyl.
