Did a lot of courting there in the early 60s

A film that takes me back. Born and raised at the top of Halliwell Road, I went to Smithills Grammar School and called the area home. There was a self made cycle track through the woods off Smithills Croft Road opposite the bleach works and we often rode our bikes up to the old boating lake at Barrow Bridge before calling in the tuck shop and amusement arcade and on with a couple of runs up and down the 64 steps and even on up to the cigarette tunnel at Walker Fold. We still call at Moss Bank Park with our daughter and grandson but sadly my favourite area the rockery is now closed. Anyway there is still plenty of room to kick a football about and watching the film confirms much of what I remember from my youth in the 50's and early 60's remains today.

Brilliant, glad it brought back memories, an area we often visit, great that Smithills hall is open to the public.

The Holy Well has certainly not been lost, if you know where to look.
Amazingly you were probably about 50ft from its location.

The drinking fountain at Moss Bank was originally located at the junction of Chorley Old Road and Chorley New road close to the town centre.

Didn't they once have monkeys at Moss Bank Park? I'm sure they did when I was a kid. I love my home town. Brilliant video!❤

Yes I believe they had Animal World behind the cafe, but the council closed it many years ago to save money. Great area with interesting history, thanks for watching.

I used to meet up with a friend at Smithills Bolton a while ago. Moss Bank gardens looks very attractive, but not been there before, so perhaps something for the future. A melodic style to your piano arrangements. I liked the second arpeggio piece very much.

Hi Shanita, hope you are well. Thanks for the nice comments. Smithills used to have a tea room but it disappeared during Covid, hope it comes back.

Great to see all the new trees being planted. The tree for life scheme is working well. Fascinating history of the area. Thanks for watching.

Brilliant video. My 8 year old son was shown it in school as they are learning about our local area. We've just sat and watched it together at home. We love learning the history of where we live. Thank you so much 😊

I hadn't realised the link between Moss Bank Park and Smithills Hall until I made this video. Thanks for watching.

Hi Michael, hope you are well. Looking forward to doing the rest of that walk to Walker Fold Woods. Also planning a trip to Stainforth Waterfalls from one of your videos.

At 9:48 the grassy area was once a boating lake and at the top end where there is a car park used to be amusements.

I had read about the boating lake but didn't know about the amusements. Love the history of these places. Thanks for the info.
